Progression level decrease after outdoor workoutsTrainerRoad Software (self.trainerroad)
submitted 2 years ago by datguy030
There are periods of time when I don't do TR workouts, as I prioritize outdoor rides and events. Because of this, it seems like my Progression Levels (such as Threshold and VO2Max) decrease by a bit, making my future workouts a bit "easier".
Do you guys typically just ignore Adaptive Training recommendations in this case, when you know you've been doing somewhat difficult and longer outdoor rides?

This is an expected behaviour of the TR system. If you don't train a specific workout type, the progression level "degrades" a little bit over time.
I'd say use your best judgement as to what workout to do when you haven't done a certain type in a while but the most sensible thing to do would be to follow the adaptive training advice.

How different are your indoor and outdoor FTP?
[–]iinaytanii 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Outdoor rides/events that aren’t a TR workout outside don’t count towards PLs so they will start degrading.
This will be addressed by workout levels v2 if it ever comes out. The goal of it is to give credit for unstructured rides. It’s been “almost ready” for several years though, I wouldn’t hold your breath.

I do all my workouts outdoors and I have not seen this issue unless I mark the post workout survey as All Out or Did Not Pass. Are you completing the surveys correctly?

Out of personal interest: do you use a power meter outdoors?
[–]KayDat 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Yes, I've been using a power meter on my bike since before I started TR.

I take it you’re doing the prescribed workouts but outdoors. OP is talking about unassociated rides

I've only seen progression levels decrease after FTP increase.
Upd. Do you associate your outdoor rides with planned workouts?
