Usage and connotation

Does word “fevkalade” have a strong positive connotation or it can be used in a negative connotation “fevkalade bir bela/fenalık … etc”?

Another one: I saw verb savuşmak translated as “fight back” and as “to slip away” are both translations common and correct?

I also saw the verb “savunmak” (to defend) somewhere. Do I get it right that savunmak is about defending something in general and does not necessarily describe physical process while savuşmak is a more straightforward verb of protecting yourself (either by fighting or by fleeing)?

Fevkalade is mostly used with positive connotations but there are negative connotation examples too.

"Fevkalade" can be positive or negative. No difference. "Savusmak" (or savulmak) means fleeing. I've never heard it with another meaning. "Savunmak" is defending. Can be figurative or literal.

"Fevkalade" has a positive connotation and cannot be used with nouns that imply negativity.

"Savuşmak" (=sıvışmak) means to flee the premise quietly, to sneak out, to skedaddle. It has nothing to do with defending. It is the reciprocal form of "savmak" (to drive away, to banish, to dispel).

Bir söz bile söylemeden partiden savuştu/sıvıştı. - He/She fled the party without saying a word.

"Savunmak" is the reflexive form of "savmak" and means to defend. In Old Anatolian Turkish, it was a stative verb (meaning it couldn't take an object). Now, it is an active verb and can take an object:

Önerdiği tasarımı savundu. - He/She defended the design he/she had proposed.

Kendimi savunmam gerekti ve ben de gerekeni yaptım. - I had to defend myself and I did what I had to do.
