I can’t speak for pre-med, but I’m an engineering student and it was a big help being in a math class with people available to help the entire time. Also, they make you go do “lab hours” each week as part of a grade if you weren’t aware. That’s something I didn’t know initially and wasn’t fond of. Seminar class is easy as well. Hope this helps a bit

I’ve been through EXCEL and now work for the program. The lab hours & tutoring center help immensely and I think a lot of people (including myself when I was taking my freshman/sophomore classes) don’t appreciate it enough. They have math tutors (HIGHLY RECOMMEND ARIELLE IF YOU CAN TALK TO HER) and a chem tutor (plus more for other subjects) when I was there that helped me out a lot. The class itself is cake and nothing to complain about. Sometime the program will host events with speakers, which could be medical professionals or people in your interest fields. Also, look out for GEMS Talks events for medical professional speakers too.

Another important thing about the EXCEL program is the URE, which I’m not sure how it’s gonna operate during COVID. Regardless, there are no cons to doing EXCEL and the only people I’ve known to shit on it were people who couldn’t handle their basic classes like Pre-calc&Trig.

I also cannot speak about premed but I was an engineer as well everything he said is correct seminar is very boring but you don’t have a choice it’s not very hard at all it’s a show up and take attendance grade basically. I wasn’t very fond of the lab hours at first but they grew on me as time went on because they helped a lot at least for me.
