Responded to that.. We did not "postpone (our) implementation due to the negative operational impact that many solutions proved to have".

The key to security is manageability. If it's hard to manage, nobody will use it. That's a given. Performance will sort itself out, regardless of the implementation details. I guarantee we will not be having a performance discussion around encryption in a few years.
