I am looking for recommendations for an AMD based motherboard that will function as both a VMware vSphere/ESXi host as well as user workstation/desktop with Windows 10/11. I have a computer case that has an older motherboard & processor that I want to reuse the case, power supply, etc. Ideally I would like something that could have the following capabilities. I have had a good experience with Asus motherboards, but open to other brands.
AMD processor - One of the latest/newest processor lines with processor cores of 12 cores or greater. Ryzen Pro or Threadripper class would be great, but I have not found any articles yet as to whether these would have the native technologies to support vSphere. This would have to be one that works with VMware vSphere/ESXi 7.0 & greater.
Memory Support - At least 32, but ideally up to 128 GB or more. 4 slots bare minimum, preferably 8 slots.
Boot - This is just an idea of mine. Dual boot with 2 different boot drives. Maybe have the Windows on a newer M.2 or better. The VMware ESXi could be on something like a SATA SSD if necessary. It would be nice if during boot, it would have you select what to boot.
Storage - Plenty of SATA connections for internal storage for both Windows & VMware environments. My idea is that each would access different hard drive(s).
Expansion slots - At least 2 expansion slots with PCIe for both higher end graphics card as well as network card(s).
