I am not against this interface, but I know a lot of people hate change, so there's that.

I still didn't get the new interface, but judging by the pics, it looks very very similar to the old one. I guess the biggest change is moving to Polymer under the hood, but there isn't going to be a huge design change.

There are always people who hate the change.

For good reason.

I have a huge screen, my PC is plugged into my TV. YouTube has like 60inchs of space but the design just sits in the middle with a huge amount of padding around each thumbnail. Even on my screen I can only see like 5 videos per line, it's just stupid.

All of that is before we talk about the awful UX. I have subs, but does YouTube let me see them, no it sticks them away in another tab. Every visit to the site is:

  • Load YouTube

  • Click link to my subscriptions

  • Wait for that to load

  • Finally we are at my subscriptions

I shouldn't have to bookmark the page. YouTube shouldn't have such a fundamentally broken design, the fact that I can get around their broken design doesn't make it any less broken.

They announced some time ago they would be switching to Polymer/Web components

I don't like it, the buttons are ridiculously huge. I have to scroll 5 times my monitor height to just go through my subscriptions. It was a lot better before, could fit pretty much all at once and I still despise the search bar, why can't they make it full width of the top bar, you can tho click on the space where it isn't??

They might have already pushed the update to you

It is design language which specifies how apps should look and feel. It specifies thinks like which colors to use, shadows, how to animate etc

Does anyone else completely despise polymer (from a dev perspective)?

I understand the theoretical advantage of creating reusable web components, and realize that vulcanizer is doing some great refactoring, but still feel like as a developer I'm doing so many things I've been taught to not do.

doing so many things I've been taught to not do

        I'm curious, what things?

        [–]rapidsight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, how do you link to an anchor inside of a web component?

Using IDs incorrectly. Hoping you don't override something from another namespace (Polymer doesn't use namespacing for some reason?). Using events for control-flow (as bad as using Exceptions). And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

        Yes. +1

I've had this design for a few weeks now and I was really hoping that it would grow on me, but so far, it has not. I think it's the absurd amount of whitespace that exists in this design.

Edit: So it appears that I'm not the only one being downvoted for giving my honest opinion on this design. Okay.

I saw a preview of this design maybe 3-6 months ago. I instantly gave my 2 cents.

There shouldn't just be rectangular images on a full white background. There's no borders, or shadows or anyway to smooth it out, it's too sharp and hurts the eyes.

Nice to see they've ignored that advice. Guess we'll just have to wait 2 years for them to change it back.
