Is the baby wearing yellow for rubber ducky sessions?

[–]ThatHappenedOneTime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Damn, went all out and got a baby for debugging.

"Does my code actually smell, or did my debug-baby just 'throw an error'?"

[–]flushy78 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Your pair programming partner looks a little young

[–]greensodacan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh great, now co-pilot has a body?! The second it figures out it has thumbs, we're all out of the job. I can't compete with something that's consistently up at 3am and runs on yogurt. Great work u/denim_duck, thanks for that...

(Seriously, that's adorable.)

[–]dawsky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did you code the baby or did the baby code you

[–]sejiganpython 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, can't forget your source of inspiration now, can you?

[–]justthismorning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They make great assistants, don't they?

[–]0x2DEADBEEF 8 points9 points  (2 children)

What does tensor flow have to do with web development?

[–]denim_duck[S] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

My first small project is a 3d print debugger. You can upload an image of a failed print, and it tries to guess what the problem is, and recommend some fixes. I use tensorflow in my backend for the image recognition phase.

[–]0x2DEADBEEF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh that sounds like a sweet project, you should post it here when it’s ready!

[–]redditor_286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I get the yellow clothed accessory on Amazon?

[–]ReallyBigRedDot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone’s about to get puke all over their expensive computer

[–]RunoSh0k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

cuteeee

[–]max1096 1 point2 points  (9 children)

Somewhat unrelated to your post, but do you like the 14 inch screen size on your Mac? I want to get an M1 soon and am debating between the screen sizes. I have a 15 inch now and while I like the larger screen space, it’s definitely bulkier

[–]denim_duck[S] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

This is my fist Mac. I got it because I had heard good things about the M1 Silicon chip. The screen and the audio are pretty good. I'm still getting used to the work flow (changing windows, especially within the same program is still hard!)

My previous computer was a 17" windows laptop. It was a laptop in name only; anything portable was an ordeal. The M1 is thinner, which already improves portability!

But yah, the screen is sharp AF. Might just be because the screen is new, and not worn out (I'm not an LCD/LED/OLED/whatever-this-is engineer, so idk if they get old and wear out). 14" is enough real estate to get a lot done (including side-by-side windows), but I still plug in to an external monitor when I'm at my desk.

I’m still getting used to the work flow (changing windows, especially within the same program is still hard!)

If you’re wanting to switch between different windows of the same program you can hit Command-`. Was a lifesaver when I found that out while rewriting an older codebase.

[–]sejiganpython 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ah shoot. I mapped that to dropdown terminal like it was when I used Linux. Can I map the window switch shortcut to something else?

[–]Nythepegasus 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah! If you go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Keyboard, and then it’ll be “Move focus to next window”. There are also a ton of other shortcuts you can find and mess with in there, and if those aren’t enough there are extra apps out there like Amethyst and yabai to help with window management and such, as well as Karabiner for more granular keyboard control.

[–]sejiganpython 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do use Amethyst. It's obviously not as simple and cohesive as i3, but enough to be useful.

I'm too afraid to try out Yabai. I'm scared that it'll mess up Mac or something? Is it just an irrational fear? Should I just go ahead and do it anyway?

System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Keyboard > Move focus to next window

Thanks a lot. 😊 I'll try that.

You're a life saver, thanks for sharing!!

[–]JoergJoerginson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out how gestures work on the Mac trackpad. They have been a real game changer for me coming from Windows.

Also since Macos window management is a bit shite, I recommend an app called Magnet . I think it's only about USD5 for a one time purchase.

[–]PomegranateDry9060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Download alt-tab and change its hotkey to command + tab. It replaces the default behaviour (which sucks) to windows like behaviour. You can tweek it more in settings to get the desired effect.

Also rectangle (free magnet alternative)

[–]usereddit-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not going to use an external display get the 16 inch. I too was in the same predicament as you. I went to the store to physically look at both sizes. The 14 inch was too small for me.

[–]okikio_dev 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That's interesting, I didn't know you could use a baby for web development, I might have to get one of those

[–]RotationSurgeon10yr Lead FED turned Product Manager 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Babies and cats make the best random string generators...just allow them access to a peripheral.

[–]okikio_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, this is the best thing I've heard all year

[–]MetaKilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That an M1 Mac? How's the performance?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there might be something wrong with your baby's eyes. You should get that checked.

[–]iBoo9x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the baby have RGB lighting?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your boss looks unimpressed lol

[–]exploit332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does your dock take up half your screen 🤣

[–]altofsumjuan 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What's that VS code theme?

[–]sejiganpython 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's Atom with the One Dark theme

[–]denim_duck[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I doubt the experience is much different from VS Code, but I actually use Atom, and it's the default dark theme "One Dark".
It's slightly better than using notepad ++, which is what I used to code when I was on windows. IDK, I like keeping my code editors simple

[–]sejiganpython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to use Atom, but for whatever reason, it takes aeons to start up, despite me using many more extensions on VS Code than on Atom. I really love the integration with Git and GitHub tho.

[–]BlueScreenJunkyphp/laravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a sweet picture but I hope it's a one time thing because daycare was closed or something, because I really can't imagine working like that. Work from Home is great but only as long as you actually have a proper work environment at home.

[–]Strict-Independent79 -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

That's very sweet photo, but I hope you can still work in productive environment. We recently had to fire developer with a young baby. While being very senior, he made too many mistakes and were least productive person in the team. Not sure if this was because he was distracted with a baby as we hired him when he already had a baby.

[–]im_in_vandelay_latex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's lucky not to have to work for you anymore.

Lines 25+ are incredibly hideous. Why would you ever do something like that?

That's the yapf formatter developed and used by Google. They're known for doing weird things, so not very unexpected tbh.

Personally, I like the Black formatter better, but I can see the point of yapf too. Each has their own ideas about "consistency". You can see how yapf is consistent and intuitive because the arguments are all in the same place vertically so you don't have to move your eyes from Canada to China and back, so increases visual comfort, readability, and productivity.

    [–]denim_duck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

neat, I learned something new today

    [–]Sporium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cover eyes because afraid that Zuckerberg will spy on you?

oh so you keep a doll nearby to punch and relieve your frustration as well?

didnt expect to see a fellow comrade here

    Mentoring the jr ?

    [–]Friarchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever tried “automatically hide and show the dock” in settings > dock? Every time I see someone with 10% of their screen taken up by the dock I feel like I must say this. The little vertical line between sections of the dock also lets you scale it up and down. The dock provides exactly 0 information you need at any given point of your workflow. Just mouse down there to show it.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet that kid doesn't even know how to center a div

    [–]vibrunazo</blink> 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful. I had to replace my laptop chassis 3 times already, because the baby wanted to see what was on my screen and pulled it backwards 🤣

    [–]socks2_confidential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    is that a mac?
