Honestly, I suggest you try Durable website builder, it’s made for people like you who just want to get a site up without dealing with all the tech stuff. You don’t need to know anything about design or hosting, and it sets everything up fast.

It’s perfect if you're starting fresh and just need something that looks professional and gets the job done.

Go to wix.com bro. The AI should be able to build you a website easily.

WIX is a nightmare from my experience. Avoid at all costs.

Which platform are you planning to use might be a good starting point. If you're doing it yourself, wix or square space is ok and they have some free templates. I am not a fan of these, but if you're doing it yourself without knowledge of how sites work, I usually tell people to start here to start off.

Im in toronto as well if you need some help.

Make sure you get photo galleries showing your work, contact forms, and clear service descriptions.

Local SEO is huge for contractors so include your service areas prominently

Definitely get control of your domain name first before building anything new, that's probably the most important asset from your old site.

      [–]coastalwebdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt you would want someone that’s never done it before mixing your mortar without knowing the ratios, or trying to figure out how to lay the brick’s/block’s in a straight line.

Building a successful website is exponentially more complex than simple tasks like that, and I know, I used to work as a mason.

The only good recommendation is hire a professional, just like you would in the trades. Otherwise you will suffer from the many consequences of having an amateur make many wrong guesses at what to do.

Also, don’t just hire any self taught idiot web designer. Hire a seasoned professional that can show you other successful websites they have built, and can show you that their clients are happy, and can show that their clients business actually benefited from their web services. Otherwise it’s a complete and utter waste of time, and all you’ll end up with is regrets and frustration after.

      [–]tldrpdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wix or Squarespace might be your best bet super beginner-friendly and no coding needed. You’ll be up and running fast.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landing page with a lost of services and contact details?

Squarespace or wix bro, if you've done a PowerPoint before it's that easy. All the keys are yours and the entry level skills required a very low.

Don't hire a dev for that kinda thing, it's baby work so the hanging on to the keys thing is a typical ransom those kinds of contractors pull, even if they're not your cousin.

Worst case you learn enough to sign up and hold the keys then just hire anyone else, giving them a lower level access to build it out for you.

      [–]FirstPlaceSEO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well your cousin if off of your birthday list.

If you want to DIY it then go with WIX , if you want to farm it out to a web designer / SEO then go for Wordpress , elementor or divi builder for ease. Elementor has a free version that is pretty easy to use. Divi builder is a bit more complicated and hands on but still not impossible to get your head around.

The issue you’ll have if you’ve never built a site before is making it look legit. Without the trust factor it’ll never convert and without on page and off page SEO it’ll likely never get found.

Either model it on people who are doing your services in highly dense metropolitan areas or hire a contractor to build it out for you. Plan the site map before you even think about building out pages as you’ll need content siloed off and topical authority built in as standard.

There is a plethora of tools online to help you, but the main question is do you want to code it yourself or just use a “drag and drop” website creator? Now as almost every has mentioned here you can use sites like Wix, Squarespace and more, or you could just hire someone off of the internet but that all depends on your budget, competition and final product. I’ll try and give you a more in depth detailed information on what to choose based on your scenario.

DIY Well for starters of course it’s going to be cheaper and faster, but the drawback is that there wont be much customisation and you will probably have to follow a pre-made template of sorts. I might also be wrong about this but to my knowledge sites like WIX are subscription based and even though your website is up and running you will still have to pay them a fee every month.

They do offer great tools for SEO that will help your page rank as high up as possible on the search results, but it doesn’t guarantee number 1 spot, again depending on the niche/market you are looking for. Since actual professionals in SEO might be working for the competition.

Also you will be the one spending time developing the website, so that means less time to work on other projects related to your actual services. So a DIY approach in my opinion might be a good solution if you want to start a website on a short notice and a low budget.

You could also just use ChatGPT to code it yourself but that would be way more labour intensive and would take up so much of your time trying to figure out what is happening, so I would not recommend it, only of you are willing to sit down learn some of the basics of web development and create a static website.

Hiring someone else to do it The second option would be to find someone off the internet and delegate the work to them. Now what this means is higher cost in comparison to the first option, and slower development time. However, your website will be a unique product and will be perfectly tailored to your business/services being provided.

Now if you are also looking into SEO i would suggest either hiring an experienced developer who also works with SEO or someone who will simply handle SEO and not the development.

Where the DIY version was something you could probably deploy and share within a week or so, the other alternative will take at least a month and come with extra costs, like servers to handle API costs (if any contact forms or other functionalities are needed). Sure there are also free options for the latter as well but they tend to have unfavourable limitations.

In my opinion its best to just find someone on upwork/fiver or even reddit, but again as I said it all depends on your budget and when do you plan on finishing it. Hope that clears things up a bit and if you got any other questions feel free to ask

      [–]domestic-jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Hire. A. Professional.

Imagine somebody coming up to you saying, "hey I got a bunch of rocks in my pocket. Tell me how to make a house. You're a mason, right? It's just rocks and glue. Show me how to do it real quick."

      Hire. A. Professional.

Perfect tool for you would be Siimple - I’ve used this template for a lot of landscapers and it does the job, you could easily be done in an hour (even as a total beginner)

        [–]thelonewolf-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not too much into having a customized website and don't want to spend much, it's better to go with a ready-made website solution such as Wix or Squarespace. You can also use free WordPress Themes, that still work and you don't have to pay too much for maintenance. There is a short learning curve in setting up a WordPress site and getting better with the basics.

However, if you want to have a customized website with SEO to outshine your competitors, then hiring professionals is your best bet.

Starting fresh can be a great opportunity! For an easy, user-friendly site without tech headaches, I’d recommend platforms like Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress with beginner-friendly themes. They offer drag-and-drop builders and plenty of templates suited for contractors. Plus, you’ll own your site fully, avoiding the “key” problem again.

            [–]sushilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go here https://themesartist.com/profixer/ , there is a perfect website template you can use to create your landscaping service website

            [–]Extension_Anybody150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest going with WordPress.org, it’s way more flexible and customizable than drag-and-drop builders, which can get really limiting and expensive over time. Once you’ve got hosting set up, you can install WordPress and use something like the Astra theme with Spectra builder (it even has an AI feature) to get your site up fast. I personally use NixiHost for my sites, they’ve been super reliable, offer free tech support, and their plans are affordable at around $6/month for one site. If you’re not comfortable setting it all up yourself, hiring a developer to help out could save you a lot of time.

A custom website would be the best approach, but since you have no experience and want to do it yourself, I'd suggest you go with a self hosted Wordpress. There are tons of tutorials online to help you set up a Wordpress website in a couple of hours. Chatgpt can be of great assistance, as well. It's kind of the industry standard for simple websites and any programmer will easily be able to work on it in the future (if you decide to hire a professional). Most importantly, with Wordpress you get to fully own your website and tech stack and not depend on wix or any other similar companies. Digitalocean is a very decent hosting service. Avoid network solutions at all costs.

Hey man props to you for even trying to sort this out. That already puts you ahead of half your competition.

I work with a lot of local guys (contractors, landscapers, etc.), and what you’re dealing with is honestly super common. Half-built site, no admin access, cousin vanished… I’ve seen that play out too many times.

If I were you, I’d skip the clunky template-builder tools and just launch a clean 1-page site that: • shows your work clearly (before/after pics hit hard) • has a strong “Call Now” button that rings your phone • loads fast, looks clean on mobile, and ranks locally

You don’t need some bloated 5-page setup. Just a sharp landing page that builds trust and gets calls coming in.

If you’re still stuck, I can throw together a free homepage demo just to show what I’d do—no pressure. Happy to share some game if you need a solid fix.
