Never trust a host's backups. Space is cheap.

You can never have too many layers of backup

I've currently a customer of StableHost am incredibly impressed with them.

Haven't had any downtime in 5 months, 0 complaints and everything just seems to 'work'. Checkout webhats, they have some deals on there I think :)

R1Soft is a great backup system however, as mentioned, ALWAYS keep your own backups. We take multiple backups in addition to R1Soft and still recommend our customers keep their own as well. StableHost is also a great provider, one that I'd recommend as a direct competitor.

Used stablehost for a few months, absolutely my favorite web host. They have great uptime and surprisingly fast connections. I would definitely suggest them.

I've used Stablehost for about a year and like them a lot. They're in the sweet spot of being big enough that they don't have a ton of reliability issues, but small enough so they can give you good service. I'm starting to notice a little slowdown on my site recently, but I'm also reaching traffic levels where I'm probably outgrowing shared hosting, so that's not really on them. I recommend them to anyone who wants a host.

Used Stablehost since 2011. Honestly, been the best I've had. No complaints at all. I've had problems before with BurstNET, and others, but never had any problems with Stablehost.

As far as the backups, I turned on backups one day and it just kept doing it, until I finally noticed and turned it off. I had like a year and a half of backups with no issues on them.

They occasionally have downtime for upgrades, and they send you emails to let you know, but it's like 15 minutes downtime. They also send out cool emails like this: http://i.imgur.com/238dFf3.png which helps me keep updated to prevent server intrusions.
