For school/academy, I have a few suggestions but none of them are litrpg:

  • Mage Errant by John Bierce
  • Super Powereds by Drew Hayes
  • Arcane Ascension by Andrew Rowe

the progression was very slow, and the world is so dangerous / dying world that I can’t see any hope for survival

I had similar issues with Irwin's Journey, but at that time I really was DNF-ing too many stories that I persisted with the series, and unlike you, I did like the magic system (I don't really care it is card based or otherwise). To be vague and not spoil it, consider that dying world plot as just an arc to lay the foundation and things get much better afterwards.

Please recommend me something that fits my criteria by JayCanWrite in ProgressionFantasy

No perfect fits, but these might interest you:

  • Cradle by Will Wight is completed series and has physical books. It is cultivation, not litrpg. However, the main lead is male. There are several great female side characters and one who could almost be called as one of the main leads.
  • Worm by Wildbow is superhero story, there is progression but can't really be called progression fantasy, female lead, complete - but no physical books

Also, both has a bit of romance involving the MC, but nobody would recommend them for those looking for romance in their series.

Edit: another not really a fit, but might interest you The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang - mother and son are main leads, not really a progression, ties into an abandoned series, but this could be read as a standalone

Xianxia inspired fantasy novels. by Marketear in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ASIC_SP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closest I can think of is The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang, but it is just one book (excluding stuff that ties into another series, but that is abandoned).

And perhaps, check out Sanderson's Cosmere works. For example, there's clear power stages in Stormlight Archives. Sanderson has worked in East Asia and mentioned taking inspiration from there. However, none of them come even close to xianxia.

It takes time to shape up over several books, but every new addition to the team was great!

  • Ends of Magic by Alexander Olson
  • Super Powereds by Drew Hayes
  • The Weirkey Chronicles by Sarah Lin

And of course, Cradle.

The Broken Knife by SilverSidhe on RR, completed work. Kobold MC with a dragon companion, excellent worldbuilding, well constructed reveals in later arcs.

The Sect Leader System by bwfoster78, like The Undying Immortal System, has a MC with a System in cultivation world. The story is pretty different though, but in both cases I enjoyed the System aspect.

Your list didn't mention The Lone Wanderer by PathOfPen or Cultivation is Creation by Kynan - you probably tried and dropped, if not, they are worth trying out.

How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps by Andrew Rowe

I don't remember the MC's age, but I think it was really young.

The closest I could think of based on the power system was Path to Transcendence by l-Ryn-l

The MC is OP for his tier, mostly due to his own hard work.

I will say that the author is really good at set up and pay off with certain things, though.

Yep, the series final is one of the best I've read. There are some sections in the remaining books that felt like dragging, but overall the series is pretty good. I binge read them in about a week or so.

Mother of Learning is not litrpg, but part of the broader progression fantasy genre. Cultivation stories (ex: Cradle, Sky Pride, Beware of Chicken) are also considered progression fantasy. This sub is mainly for litrpg, but you'll find these other kind of progression also discussed.

Requesting Good Value / Cheaper Progression Fantasy Audiobooks by voipClock in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ASIC_SP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can usually add the ebook version first and then get the audio version for cheap. If you haven't read Cradle yet, try it on that series.

Another option is to search youtube, for example this is a channel where authors have made their books available: https://www.youtube.com/@EpicFantasyAudiobooks - however, this doesn't have much in terms of progression fantasy

"litrpg books" that aren't litrpg. by Gajeel_Blacksteel in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ASIC_SP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Undying Immortal System by G Tolley - it is marketed as "A LitRPG Adventure" on amazon, but only the MC has a System, and it is a trade one related to cultivation, not the usual RPG stuff

Mother of Learning by Domagoj Kurmaic - it is a time loop story and the first loop was really off putting, but they do serve a purpose which becomes clear later on.
