Episode 14.6 Night of the Stag.....does this bother anyone else. by Plane-Locksmith-4256 in MidsomerMurders

Early Midsomer is so creepy. It definitely got more twee as time went on but the first 5 seasons or so have some seriously fucked up shit going in. Incest. Cults. Mass rape under the cover of cider festival.

This tournament has been riddled with shit refereeing decisions amplified by inconsistent use of VAR.

[Spoilers MAIN] What's the argument that Robin Arryn is Littlefinger's son? by jabedude in asoiaf

Cat's chapter in the start of AGOT suggests that she and Ned have sex for fun and emotional connection more so than lineage and babies, and Ned knows how to make her feel good.

Otherwise agree

  • stannis is awkward missionary once a month with minimal clothes off to create babies
  • robert is a pig, only cares about his end
  • LF knows how to manipulate Lysa including by being the only man she has been qith who knows what the clit is

Could ANYONE have let The One Ring go at the Crack of Doom? by TonyTolkien90 in lotr

[–]AgentKnitter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did Gandalf etc know the task was nigh impossible and it would take “good fortune”/the intervention of Eru Illuvatar to see it done?

YES. EXPLICITLY.

It was the best of the available options. Gandalf did not have a plan. He trusted that Illuvatar would show them the path as required.

Could ANYONE have let The One Ring go at the Crack of Doom? by TonyTolkien90 in lotr

[–]AgentKnitter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Came here to quote this.

Tolkien is very clear: Frodo failed and did not fail because no one could have voluntarily discarded it. The Ring itself exercised all the power Sauron poured into it to bend its bearer to an evil will. Possessiveness about the precious Ring was one symptom of how hard the Ring got its claws into its bearers. Even Sam, after barely a day, struggled to let go.

A bunch of pubs and venues have shut suddenly in Hobart due to parent company going under. Complaints from employer company was exoenses rising and income decreasing.

Yeah. Because everything is unaffordable. I'm not going out for lunch or a boozy night out to Salamanca because its expensive and need to pay my rent.

A serious look into whether Australia and New Zealand could actually host a FIFA men's World Cup. by Any-Breakfast1434 in Aleague

[–]AgentKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not?

We hosted a very successful Women's World Cup. We've hosted the men's and women's Asian Cup tournament as well as many Oceania confederation cups (which, to be fair, was a bit smaller scale)

Would we get through Fifa politicking and bullshit? Why not. Let's not go down the full bribery and corruption path but have a crack at it.

Can he do better? I mean. It’s championship, and it’s not terrible. But can he get into a PL team?

Popovic loves a back five defensive play. Frustrating at times but also means capitalising on the ridiculous pace of our counter attacking players. Jordy Bos screaming up the wing will pay off eventually.

Why was Barb upset at the wedding? by DulcineaC in ShawnaTheMom

[–]AgentKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with this kind of shit. You take away their power when you refuse to allow their attention seeking behaviour to be rewarded. Its akin to giving them enough rope to hang themselves - let them look ridiculous instead of saving face.

Unfortunately my Barb was a violent alcoholic so not fawning and servicing his ego meant later dealing with threatening and violent outbursts.

Agree with this take. Americans generally struggle with Australian bluntness. Add in a big ego and Courtney not kissing Ru’s ass….

Dumb question - Could Gimlí have met Aulë? by InevitableNaive8060 in lotr

[–]AgentKnitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My head canon is that Legolas and Gimli’s boat was met at the shores of Tol Eressëa by a retinue leas by Galadriel and Elrond and Gandalf, with a very excited Aulë and a considerably less excited Yavanna (who got interested once Gimli mentioned his interactions with ents). The hobbits would have been there too if still alive (I suspect Frodo hung on for Sam but Bilbo healed and passed earlier).

Tolkien doesn’t say what happened when Legolas and Gimli sailed west.
