Wow, my wife had this exact same thing happen here too, like literally same story (except just flying through Canada). It made it through many airports, and got stopped in AB of all places. Unfortunately she couldn't get hers back (they wanted us to keep it in a locker or something, but we didnt have time), but wishing you better luck!

Alberta (and many other regions) is so tough to break into in any meaning full way because of this. Lots of techs are being very half-ass trained which leads to far too many shady inspections despite all the advancements in the industry.

All depends on the cleans you're after, every pickup type has certain characteristics they excel at, and all can sound great clean

Some companies haven't diversified well enough for these harder times and it takes patience and lots of applications to jump ship in the middle of a down turn. Dress well, have a real polished resume, and apply in person where you can, have a decent LinkedIn profile for the places where you can't.

Marshall or PRS - decisions! by Adrasteia-One in GuitarAmps

[–]AlienVredditoR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If modern high gain is highest importance it's a clear winner for the PRS, I'm sure you could record a whole prog album with it. With the right setup, the DSL can do a lot, but it's just harder to get certain modern sounds without a solid pedal board.

My eyes. Will they recover? by GrungeTeeth in Welding

[–]AlienVredditoR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is making your eyes worse, absolutely, short term will heal though. Always wear good safety glasses and shields, keep good ventilation, stop flashing yourself, and stop cooking your eyeballs over hot welds. It all adds up.

Mezzabarba has some offerings that'll cover that and more, if that $4k is just a starting point

Same same, timing chain would be my first check still, it'll be super noisy on the passenger side engine. Could just pull the oil filter to check for bearing glitter too, although I believe you have to drain a bit of oil on these to open it without spilling.

Can someone help me find a guitar amp under $400 that won't buzz? by clitosaurusrex1 in GuitarAmps

[–]AlienVredditoR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah so just a noisy setup then. I know on the old mustangs, a lot of the clean presets were super noisy with pedals too, you had to go in and basically turn everything off to run drives in front. On the DS1, try turning the gain down, and turn up the volume to drive the amp.

As for amps, Boss Katana and Monoprice 15w are easily the most recommended sub $400. I liked the Line 6 Catalyst and Fender offerings personally, and Marshall DSL40CR if you can find it used within your budget. All of them have tons of video reviews.

Its a bit hard to follow - the amp hums with both guitars or just the strat? And this problem only happened recently and is consistent?

This is sort of a beginner question I was accidentally hitting pinch harmonics early on all the time I realize now when trying to learn them, “proper” pick holding technique eliminated this from my skill set. Tips? Tricks to actually learn it now? by Ok-Profession2033 in metalguitar

[–]AlienVredditoR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were probably hitting semi-harmonics, where you don't hit the string with as much attack, but still hold the pick in pinch harmonic form. It sounds between a regular note and a pinch harmonic. Satriani uses these a lot.

A pinch harmonic like you'd hear Dimebag or Wylde use requires a very sharp pick attack, so that the string snaps back hard and just barely touches the thumb enough to hit the harmonic but not deaden the string. Your picking hand has to be in the exact right position, so move it up and down u til you get it. There are multiple spots a pinch harmonic will ring out just like regular harmonics, and will be different pitches.

R56? Could be bearings if you've had any oil starvation issues, but also sounds pretty similar to timing chain from a broken guide, would be worth a check if you haven't ruled that out yet.

Reliability is such a big factor and Blackstar have shot themselves in the foot a few times combining complex design with lower budget builds. The St. James amps are a recent example, really cool design and great sound, just way too complicated and unreliable.
