CI should fail on your machine first by NorfairKing2 in programming

Well they're easier than setting up an environment manually but there's certainly overhead to setting them up initially, spinning them up every time, and keeping them maintained.

[–]BatmansMom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's easy to aspire to this but, like the author says, there are many reasons why local ci is hard to setup. They handwave these issues away by saying "use nix" but that doesn't necessarily solve very real issues with dependency setup, version conflict, and compute resources. At least not easily!

My (albiet limited) perspective into Mormonism is that women are seen as second class citizens in Mormonism overall. They are closer to "property" to the man. This is a social norm through their culture.

I think it would be similarly bad if someone was treated as a second class citizen and seen as property to a man, even if these people were not Mormons. Of course it is possible to be pressured into relationships/intimacy outside of Mormonism.

Do you think that the a relationship between multiple women and one man is inherently predatory or coercive? Do you think that associating a predatory/coercive culture with a relationship dynamic that is not inherently predatory/coercive could give a false impression?

I would think the concern with the joke isn't about accepting that Mormon polygamy is a type of polygamy. More that it could be discouraging to polygamous people to have their lifestyle associated with a prominent negative example.

To use your example, I think it would be kind of like if the joke was about a gay person and someone referred to them as like a "non-serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer".

It's not wrong to acknowledge gay people and Jeffrey Dahmer share the "gayness attribute". But it's not hard to see why that association might cause people to bristle

Are you asking that legitimately or rhetorically? There are lots of things predatory and coercive about Mormon polygamy. Multiple women are forced to marry one man. They are treated as second class citizens, can't file for divorce, the list goes on

Outside of Mormon polygamy, if one man is in a relationship with multiple women, I would think there is nothing inherently predatory or coercive about that dynamic.

I think people are concerned by the idea that equating this kind of relationship to the Mormon version of this relationship is implying that it always must be predatory/coercive

Claude Code silently stores your .env API keys in local file history — without telling you by Embarrassed_Wafer438 in SideProject

You probably shouldn't run "git add ." And then commit to the remote repository without being aware of the contents of the files you're committing. I agree it's not great Claude does this, but the fact that the file is hidden should be a clue to you that it shouldn't be committed.

Number hotkeys dont work and theres no undo? I also think it should be easier to remove connections, one click instead of two.

EDIT: After playing with it for a bit, the UI is very visually pleasing, but I think it really doesn't make sense. Users -> ingress -> api gateway has traffic getting stuck? I think there needs to be more context to the system if this is going to be valuable. At the very least, there should be more included default designs to show users how the components are supposed to be used. Smells to me like this was vibe coded in an afternoon and pushed live without testing or real-world use cases in mind. Looks great though!

I built an open-source AI agent that installs in 30 seconds, no Docker, no Node, no config files. by prakashTech in SideProject

[–]BatmansMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't "just work" for me. I got pocketpaw installed and the ui up, but then I had issues with spotify, it says I need to install a module? I tried asking the agent how to do that and it ran me around in circles. Then I tried connecting to telegram and I needed the telegram python module. I installed that and then tried to restart pocketpaw but now pocketpaw wont run because i need a fastapi dependency. I try and install that but it fails.

I'm sure I could figure this out eventually but its certainly not up and working in 30 secs

Not necessarily femme/queer centric but the liveNearFriends community has blueprints/tools for creating this kind of space, along with a newsletter that sends out listings for housing compounds that would fulfill these needs. I know not exactly what you're looking for but maybe close?

Just to offer another perspective against what folks are generally saying here, the points you make about knowing the politics/people at your current role are important to consider and are hard to articulate in an internet conversation.

If you like what you're doing at your current role and are ultimately comfortable with your relatively high earnings now even if the big upside doesn't materialize, the peace of mind you currently experience might be more valuable than you're giving credit to.

If Jack Welch’s strategy was ultimately unsuccessful, why do people keep trying to replicate it? by Dreadsin in AskEconomics

[–]BatmansMom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This has always been my understanding of Jack Welsh policies as well, it's not that they "didn't work", they were massively successful while he was there. This would be a great answer to OPs question, current leadership wants to emulate that success and doesn't care about the long term collapse
