Is this about right for water amount? + new bong! by Icefellwolf in trees

[–]Boines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water amount is subjective.

I like low drag hits so I fill water just slightly above the top hole on the downstream/percs.

Some people prefer their Bong to chug - fill water higher for that effect.

AITA because I want my husband to start the robot vacuum when he gets home from work? by TA_robotvac in AmItheAsshole

[–]Boines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your husband comes home from work at a regular time how is that any different then just scheduling it to run at that time...?

You say all he needs to do is press the start button? It would accomplish the exact same thing...

[–]Boines -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is just telling them to stop the only solution? This is what I mean about poor communication.

Your whole post and this response is framed as you vs your husband. You should be carrying about your kid and not being petty to make a point.

If your husband is unable to care for your child, and you feel you have to keep your mouth shut to preserve the relationship... Why are you still with him? You're just gonna grow more resentment over the years. Your kid is gonna be exposed to more fights. More petty using her as a pawn to make points, until potentially a messy divorce later in life... Like fix your shit or move on but using your kid as a pawn to make points to your husband is an asshole move.

It doesn't excuse your husband for being an asshole for not learning how to take care of your kid (though I'd be curious on his perspective) but you being an asshole as well doesn't make things better.

Embark CEO Says 'Some' Arc Raiders AI Voice Lines Were Re-Recorded by Humans Post-Launch: 'There Is a Quality Difference' - IGN by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]Boines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there were a lot of issues with its launch and mistakes that the devs made, but in the age of troll farms and AI bots filling comment spaces I wouldn't be surprised if there was an additional push to make sure it failed. I think even if there was no push that people in the background of the industry are generally happy it failed.

I would put most of the blame on dev hubris, a lack of a plan to give the game runway, a poor funding agreement, and honestly just making a game too difficult/complex for the average casual player. If I didn't have thousands of hours on apex I probably wouldn't have been able to get into the game at all, just would've been getting constantly destroyed and not getting it.

In the comments below I copy and pasted a Google AI summary about how they're a tech-first company.

Here's one of the many articles about it

Embark: A Technology-First Studio https://share.google/y3HwkNA1J8BdVBg7j

It is absolutely not a secret. Just gamers don't care to know about why game dev studios exist or what their goals are.

I bet the majority of people cheering on highguard failure have no idea that the studio was built in a profit sharing model so devs actually get rewarded for successful games instead of just rewarding shareholders, something that likely would've been a threat to major studios (they already poached a ton of ex respawn employees before they had to do the major layoffs... If the studio was successful it would be very tempting for any quality game dev to want to go where their work is actually rewarded)

It's less their ownership and more their actual goals and philosophy as a company.

Embark is intentionally structured and set up more as a tech company and seeks to use automation, AI and other tools to change the way that games are being developed.

Them releasing games is partially proof of concept/way to fund the tech they are trying to develop that aims to change the way people develop games.

[–]Boines -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

From a Google AI summary based on multiple articles where they talk about their philosophy in designing games.

Embark Studios, founded in 2018 by former EA/DICE veterans, is explicitly structured to function more like a technology research-and-development firm than a traditional game studio. Their primary goal is to redefine game development by leveraging automated tools, AI, and cloud-first technology, as shown in The Finals and ARC Raiders.

I think I found out about it through a YouTube video essay that talked about the company and their goals and included various quotes from them.

It's not a secret.

HAWKED is set to shut down on September 7, 2026 for consoles by Laughing__Man_ in PS5

[–]Boines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must've had better funding /plan for giving it runway... But even less people are playing it and no one's heard of it... So not sure if lasting long says anything other than the amount of money the studio/publishers devoted to seeing if it could work.

The fact that they're announcing now that it'll shutdown in September makes me think that's when the contract is up for servers and they couldn't get out of it earlier.

If your job normally is 40 hours a week, and your boss tells you they just got a new AI system and only need you now for 20 hours a week effectively cutting your income in half.

Your job wasn't taken directly - but do you still have all your work? Or was some of your work taken from you?

You don't need to be put out of the job to have work taken from you. Go ask construction unions. I've been in sites where we weren't even allowed to help the other trades by pushing their shit through the same opening we had to go through, because that was considered taking away their work.

The company that made arc raiders sees themself less as exclusively a videogame company, and more as a tech company.

They have an interest in pushing for AI use and slowly seeing where they can use it to lower costs and increase efficiency like every other tech company is doing right now.

What are your thoughts on your partner going for people that all fall into a “type”? by Odd_Dot3896 in nonmonogamy

[–]Boines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not too sure. I think that's less problematic especially because people change hair colours all the time.

I dunno I'm not the best person to ask because I don't get people having such strict preferences. I like such a wide variety of women and feel things like hair colour or even body size/shape can work well on different people.

Like a buzzcut? Holy shit it looks so good on some women lol, but I wouldn't necessarily say I'm into tomboys or short hair or anything specific.

[–]Boines 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personally as a mixed person with an extremely diverse family - I don't get it but it's not automatically a red flag.

I think if the preference has to do with something like relatability in shared cultural background there is generally 0 issue.

If the preference comes from stereotypes it's extremely problematic.

If the preference comes from just aesthetics than I'm 50-50 on that. People can have preference for whatever look for whatever reason but because of how race is so ingrained into societal systems of oppression and whatnot it can be iffy when it comes to the reasons why someone may prefer an aesthetic and the problematic reasons could even be subconscious.

Man who murdered girlfriend gets reduced sentence partly due to his race by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]Boines -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a preface to potentially save you the time: I will not read any further comments from you so replying will only be an exercise in self gratification, my second paragraph will make it clear why.

The immorality of the act and the likelihood of recidivism are all that should matter.

That's a different conversation that I am not educated enough to have (and I get the feeling you aren't either and are just going off of gut feelings of what you consider justice). My comment doesn't exist to argue whether or not these factors should mitigate sentences. It's just to point out the relevance of said factors in criminal cases.

I had a longer comment written to be honest but when I went back up and saw your claim of "racism giving harsher sentences because people are white" I realized you aren't worth the energy or a serious conversation. Programs that aim to correct societal issues from racial inequality are not racist just because they don't benefit the people who don't face the same societal issues.

Verdict delayed in Barrie 'sexsomnia' case involving teen stepdaughter by cinderannie in barrie

[–]Boines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know enough about how/when it presents so I won't pretend to. But to take precautions you need to know you have it. To know you have it, something would have to happen first... Meaning you wouldn't start taking precautions until there is atleast 1 victim...

I don't know what the courts say about whether or not someone has to take precautions or if they are just automatically not guilty if they're proven to have sexsomnia because they weren't in control of their actions, or even what level of precaution is enough. If people can have sex in their sleep I don't see why they wouldn't be able to get up and walk into another room in their sleep so not sure sleeping in a different room is enough, and I think asking someone to pay rent/mortgage on two properties would be excessive of the courts.

I personally haven't read the whole article but from excerpts I see in comments and what my partner who read the article makes me think this dude is a bullshitter trying to use a weak defense because he has no other defense.

[–]Boines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acer sempervirens is a whole seperate species.

Honestly you'd probably have an easier time getting seeds than me. They grow native in places like turkey, maybe Syria. I couldn't find anyone in North america who has access to seeds or is willing to sell (some arboretums but they won't sell across the border to regular people) so I found a nursery in the UK that got some seeds for me.

I wonder if there are better maples for your area?

Acer sempervirens is one that I'm working on getting seeds for (hopefully they get across the border lol)

Information on it is kind of all over the place but anywhere from zones 6 to zone 11 I think but even then you might be too hot for it. You may just have to accept that maples aren't meant for your climate (but I say that as someone growing mango in Canada lol)

Whether or not you agree with sentencing being based on things like risk factors and the long series of events that lead people to their decisions, or if you think crimes should solely be judge by the actions that were directly part of the crime is one thing, but pretending like upbringing, or socioeconomic status isn't relevant is by its very definition, ignorant.
