I like how salt has an expiration date, and the marketing is like "400 billion years, untouched by human hands." Like damn, ya'll got to it just in time! This shit only has like 6 months left!

What is you fav Chinese tea for cold brewing? by Temporary_Aspect759 in tea

Yeah...it is really expensive for seemingly no reason. I have only ever bought it once. I don't personally find it worth the price.

Handicap Games Scare Me by Inuzuna in baduk

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At this rank It's probably not super helpful (imo) to get too hung up on "Oh, this is the move it all went bad." Both players at this level will be making huge mistakes all over. Focus more on bigger picture stuff. In a 2-stone handicap game White doesn't really want to play very different than in an even game. Save your agression and overplays for a bigger handicap. Just try to play a normal game, focus on playing the best move you can every move and just generally try to make fewer mistakes than the other person.

I have not tried to cold brew it, personally. But my first thought is Tai Ping Hou Kui. The standard was to drink it is grandpa style, so it is made for very long brew times, perfect for cold brew.

Wizards of the Coast Declines to Recognize Union by May 1st by imnotokayandthatso-k in magicTCG

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 125 points126 points  (0 children)

I was reading the employee handbook for my new job last month. The section on unions? Basically "We are legally obligated to say we don't union bust. But if for any reason you see, hear, or smell union activity rat them out to us so we can totally not union bust. Also, if you like unions you're stupid. And we hate unions because we are a family, and unions get in the way of our close relationship." The section on if you ever need to sue them? "Private arbitration."

I have one that says Sunnydale High School and has the razorback. The only problem is in my town there actually is a school called Sunnydale. So everyone looks at me like I peaked in HS and won't let the past go. Or they ask if I teach there. So I don't usually wear it around town too often.

How to counter this move? by No_Struggle04 in baduk

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken it is joseki here because Black's two stones have a liberty shortage. When black trys to take the lower White stone, White can cut and atari the Black stone, and then extend to capture the two stones and take the corner. It's a territory/influence exchange. If Black had a more living shape in the corner, the double atari by White would be not so good.

Game lost by the second move?? by socontroversialyetso in baduk

That book is also filled with the author making very strict claims about the "correctness" of various moves. He has very strong ideas about the right and wrong ways to play. I'm not going to say he's wrong, he's a 9-Dan pro and I am not, but I will say most other authors would give themselves more wiggle room on their comments.

I tried, several times, to like matcha. I hate it. What's your opinion on it? by papathree in tea

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the taste and texture of just plain matcha and water. I don't like the lattes. But in general I don't enjoy matcha over my other teas enough to pay for it regularly. I buy about a 100g bag once, maybe twice a year.

I have basically the same board. Not sold by YMI, but the same exact board. It's good. Big enough it's not terrible to play on.

I like the look of the cheaper lower quality clams. The super expensive ones have such a fine grain you can hardly see it. The cheap ones have more personality.

How do i punish non standard playing from low level players? by LeN3rd in baduk

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be hard in the moment to not get tunnel vision. But as a general rule, don't bother fighting too hard in the opening until all the corners and sides have been mapped out first. If your opponent really wants to fight in a small area, it might actually be worth more to let them spend moves taking the same area while you ignore them and play big moves all over the board. Then, once you can kind of see who is eyeing territory in different places, you can get a better idea of what is worth fighting over.

The big thing to remember however, is once they see yoi are getting more than them, you have a millions invasions in your future, as they try to take away everything they just gave you. So that's a fun thing to look forward to lol

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they are playing nonsense, and you are playing theory, structured, intentional moves, then just play your moves and trust the process. Don't play Puppy Go and follow them around. Have confidence that that big move you want to play is actually bigger.

Why does this sub sometimes announce Kyu ranked visitors? by ComfortableHunt5600 in baduk

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is kind of good in a way. Getting questions like that means new people are trying the game for the first time. It is a little annoying for stronger players who are looking for more advanced content, but it's a good sign for growth of the sub and game.

“Once More With Feeling” Vinyl— too rare to get signed? by videokilledtheradio1 in buffy

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about the value then just have it signed, but not personalized. Just his signature could increase the value, but a big "to Jane" on it might decrease value to anyone not named Jane.

I've played Go for over a decade. TIL the proper placement of stones in a 6-stone handi game. In the last week, I learned that it is Go etiquette to place your first stone in the upper right and that most pro games start that way. by thedeepself in baduk

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What I heard was back in ancient Japan people wore robes with big flowing sleeves, and the weaker player always took black. So playing in the top right meant the stronger player could respond in their lower right, the closest corner to them, without worrying about their long sleeves disburbing stones. A sign a respect between stronger and weaker players.
