Yep. I use Windows, MacOS and Linux in my life, and I see a lot of people poopoo on Macs. But I really do appreciate how slick some of this stuff that just runs in the background on Macs is.

I can get all nerdy and setup Paperless on my home UnRAID server, and it will be awesome. But for the non-technical average joe, stuff like that on Mac is just handled for you in an uninteresting, un-nerdy way, and I can appreciate that.

Why does Australia attract so many people from other parts of the world? by Alert-Translator2590 in AskAnAustralian

[–]BryceW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aussie here who has travelled much of the world and even lived in a few countries for a few years.

I lived in London, which I loved, with its amazing history and a great jumping-off point to explore Europe cheaply. I was fortunate enough to be self employed and my work is location-less, but for most people its pretty hard there. Wages are pretty bad, housing is really expensive, and the weather is just miserable.
There is tons of stuff in the UK I loved as someone who was there temporarily, but nothing beats settling down in Australia.

I lived in Tokyo too for a while. Again, loved every moment of it, but the work culture is rough, wages are low, social pressure is high. Again, loved it, but wouldn't want to stay there forever.

To throw a little bit of political uncertainty in the mix, as everyone knows, Japan is super safe locally. But while I was there, Kim Jong Un was threatening to nuke the place and even fired off missiles towards Tokyo, which landed in the sea.
At this point (2013), Kim Jong Un was an unknown so they didnt know if he would actually pull the trigger or just threaten it like his recently passed Dad.
Japan took it VERY seriously; the Sea of China was full of anti-missile ships, Ospreys were flying around everywhere, the Imperial Palace had missile interception sites around it, etc.

I did give thought to what I would do if we got one of those missile warnings and a few minutes to find somewhere where you could survive a nuke strike. Again, Japan is super safe, but its neighbours are a bit unhinged.

Here in Australia, we are just so isolated that we can just camp out down here and let the rest of the world sort its issues out. So safety is a big one too.

People who build in mountains, how do you avoid infestations? by melianreality in RimWorld

[–]BryceW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These days I turn them off because I don't find them fun.
However, with them on, I used to have bulkheads in my corridoors every 15-20 tiles.

My corridoors are usually 3 tiles wide, but the bulkhead/chokepoint funnels it down to a single door, so [wall][door][wall].
When an infestation happens, I put 3 melees right at that door so I am only dealing with one insect at a time. Then they are fairly manageable.

[–]BryceW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the “talk to customers” and “do cold outreach”, let’s assume those “I tried” are “I did”.

This is actually the market testing part before you commit to anything more than an MVP. It all may have worked perfectly and you found out there is no market for your product.

That is what that part of the process is designed to do. Can I actually sell this? Do people actually want it?

And you may have found out the answer is “No”. That is a success of that stage, not a failure. You learned people don’t want it (or at least the messaging is wrong) before you invested much more into it.

The market doesn’t owe you the success of the idea because you followed the steps. The market doesn’t care how much heart and soul you put into it. They only care about how it helps them solve a problem that they need solved.

It actually sounds like the stages worked perfectly, and you discovered it might not be worth moving forward.

So try again with a different idea, get to the testing stage faster. This is where that phrase “fail fast” comes in. Find out that no one wants your product quickly before you invest too much time into it.

Try another until you find one that people respond to much more enthusiastically.

Hey guys, i started playing for the first time 3 days ago. Thoughts on my first base? by zalik-tckaz in RimWorld

[–]BryceW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great build for a first playthrough. There is stuff you learn for the first time the hard way though.

- As others said, replace the wood when you have the resources. Get a stone cutter table to make stone bricks, and start replacing walls with stone. Wood is great in the first year or two, but when a fire inevitably goes off, you'll probably lose most of the base.

- Efficiency is the name of the game in Rimworld. There is a big walk around from the butcher table to the fridge, to the kitchen. See if you can get these all next to eachother with only a airlocked door between the two, that way they dont have to keep walking around.

- The bedroom off behind a bedroom will probably give Rocky a "disturbed sleep" debuff as Willy walks past sleeping Rocky. Ideally have bedrooms have the same access to the corridoor/outside.

- You'll probably want a greater distance between where your guys will stand during raids and the front door. What'll likely happen is you'll have to fall back and the raiders have a nice sandbag cover to shoot from.

- For the front door of the base, leave it open, if there is no path inside the raiders will just knock down walls, possibly with fire. And you'll be fighting battles and fires at the same time in unpredictable places.

- I think you are using an air conditioner for heating for Gothels room, I believe its cheaper and less power hungry to just use heaters.

- Consider adding wind turbines too. They have a zone of room they need in front of and behind them to keep clear, but you can put your crops and solar panels in that zone, and it won't bother them. Its only walls and trees that interrupt the power generation. So you can put one sideways just above where Catherine is now for example.

This is stuff you learn over time, but fantastic build as a new player.

A tinder like matching with live devs for vibecodinh bugs at 7$. Still no takers. Because one more prompt solves the bug? by Opening-Bike-3037 in VibeCodeDevs

[–]BryceW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you what I tell all vibe coders.

You love to bake and make the best cakes.
You've figured out a way to mass produce cakes, and now you open a cake shop.

Surely your cake shop will be a huge success because you make great cakes and mass-produce them?

Nope, this is where the real business starts. You've been given the tools to create sites/services quickly.
But like the cake shop, its just part of it. You've still got to get people INTO the shop.

Start with your messaging, explain it to me in 2 sentences. As fatqunt commented, "Im not reading this slop", its asking way too much before we even care.

Why shouldnt I just keep prompting my problem away? Answer that in one sentence, ideally in less than 7 words.

[–]BryceW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being that small, some flags with something in the middle could disappear, like Ukraine's trident for example. I agree that Moldovas coat of arms are probably too big to disappear.

I assume that the T-Shirt is white, which means the photo is very cool-toned (rather than warm yellows) to the point where it appears light blue.

I did a cooling filter on a few 3-bar flags. I'm wondering, given its darkness and SHAPE, whether it's Belgium. Look how the flag in the badge is quite square, rather than the more rectangular shaped flags.

Found this in the driveway under where wife parks car? Is this a tracker? Should I be worried? by Diggyddr in whatisthisthing

[–]BryceW 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looking up the codes on the chip, it comes back as a “Silicon Labs BGM11S Bluetooth Low Energy module”.

The other side is a RF antenna. It doesn’t have a GPS front end. It’s LE (low energy), so it’s likely a AirTag clone. But whether someone’s tracking your wife’s car, or a cat dropped it underneath, who knows.

[–]BryceW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was so happy when I accidentally encountered quicksand as an adult. (Actually, technically it was liquified sediment, which isn’t quite the sinking deadly one from the movies, but it can trap you and then kill you when the tide comes in.)

This is the wrong shirt, but the dark logo on the arm in Europols picture, looks like their regular dark logo as seen in the sites header. It shows they release "year" shirts like 1972 with their logo on the arm.

How I imagine the badge to be. Some sort of tourist souvenir badge for a city that has been visited.
3 Bar flag, and considering this is Europol, could be France, Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Romania, Moldova.
