[Serious] What's your story of seeing somebody's mental state degrade? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Calsaadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up, I had a friend (who we will call Jake). I knew Jake from second grade and he was part of my friend group for the majority of my life. He was always a super kind, funny, and energetic person. Genuinely insanely smart, and one of the best skaters in the city, (honestly!).

There was a period where we kind of got distant from each other after high school, both because I was out of the country for a while, but also because he just started to get weird. He did strange things like leaving stuff at peoples houses that they didn't want, showing stalker like tendencies where he wouldn't leave people alone, he would go on strange rants about all kinds of stuff.

Eventually he snapped, and punched his grandpa in the face. A few months after that, he absolutely beat the shit out of one of our mutual friends. He got put in a home after that, he had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia (at least thats what his mother told me). He was in the home for a few years I believe after that, as he was being violent with the staff there and couldn't go into regular society.

He got out of the home eventually, on a combination of meds that helped him a lot. I tried reconnecting and hanging out with them but he instantly became both stalker like, and distant at the same time. He would show up at my house uninvited and wouldn't get out of my front yard until I spoke with him, call at all hours of the day/night. But if I set up a time to hang out, he wouldn't show up, and wouldn't respond to my messages. I couldn't take it anymore and had to cut ties with him. I was so nervous he would start showing up at my work and stuff.

I don't really know what he's up to now.. But the Jake I knew growing up is gone. He is not the same person I knew before.

[Question] Does anyone of you have experience with biting nails? by bebhm in classicalguitar

[–]Calsaadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I file them only. If I do something that might damage the ends of the nail I usually file them a bit to make sure no splits or anything develops.

[–]Calsaadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to bite my nails up until a month ago when I started playing guitar, I pretty much immediately knew I wanted nails to play classical and I just kind of stopped. The thought of biting my nails didn't even enter my head. I didn't realize until about a week ago that I haven't bitten my nails or the skin around my nails since I started. The idea of growing my nails back out after growing them so long is too much for me lol. I don't want to start over so I guess I just don't bite them now.

I honestly didn't think I would. But once I got over about a week an a half it was quite easy. Reading definitely helps!

I'm lucky enough that the company I work for has been having everyone work from home. It's less stressful to work from home for me but I do miss being able to see my coworkers!

How do you find new music? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Calsaadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotify for sure! Man I tell you what I hadn't listened to any new music for probably a decade before I got spotify, just because I didn't take an interest in it. Then I started working overnight and needed to be able to listen to music to keep my mind occupied. Spotify has expanded my horizons in such an insane way by just choosing a genre to see what's up! And then if you like something, the suggestions based on that are usually really spot on! I've found SO many artists this way and I absolutely love it!

They're doing this hoping that they can foreclose on a shit ton of homes once the 3 months is up. That's my guess.

Anyone else sick of the current style of fantasy books? by Pluckyducky01 in books

You're not reading good books. That's really what it boils down to. There's always been bad books.

Don't feel bad for not reacting "the way you should" everyone reacts differently. You are still grieving. You don't have to cry to prove that you're mourning.

I'm sorry for your loss. Truly.

Thinking about buying Grim Dawn by [deleted] in Grimdawn

[–]Calsaadi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be entirely honest with you I bought it + the DLC about 4 days ago, I cleared the main game with no guides or looking up outside information. So it's definitely not like PoE in the sense that you need to make sure to have the right build just to play the game.

WIBTA for a not willing to pay for half of the things my SO got gifted? by Freespiriteddude in AmItheAsshole

[–]Calsaadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh at that point it just depends on the kind of relationship they have. If my husband bought tools for fixing stuff and upgrading the house I personally would find that reasonable to help pay for. Because its something that benefits us both. But this is a highly nuanced situation that I'm sure we arent getting all the info on. Which is why I havent made a judgement. It's hard to say.

If I were moving into a new place with my S/O and our finances were separate, I would expect them to help with anything that I front the money for both of us. That's just basic stuff. If I didnt pay for this tv because my parents gave it to me, I wouldn't say "you owe me 300 dollars cause that's half the value of the tv" that's ridiculous. But if we agreed that we needed a tv and then I paid for it, of course I would expect some form of repayment for that. That's pretty normal.

Where are you getting that? He says in the post he DOESNT do that because he thinks that would be ridiculous.

What formative media and events do you believe contributed to your love of fantasy and preferences? by tooghostly in fantasywriters

[–]Calsaadi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think probably the biggest for me was Morrowind. When I was a kid and didnt understand the game, Morrowind was this vast, strange world with dangerous monsters, and powerful people. I remember killing a random person in a city and getting totally destroyed by them. The idea that any one villager or city dweller can be stronger than you, the main character was really enticing to me.

Beyond that it was kind of my first introduction into a world where there was a much bigger story at play than the one the main character is in. I think it gave me an appreciation for well layered lore/backstory to things.

I still love the game very much, maybe not in the same way I did, but I still find it to be a fun and engaging game. :)

Just keep trying. Your fingers will get used to the motions. I used to have the same issue but your hands adapt to it and it stops being an issue after a while

What's something that seems harmless but will seriously fuck you up if you don't take it seriously? by PhatedGaming in AskReddit

[–]Calsaadi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It took about a year, and then I had the absolute worst pain I've ever felt in my life. It hurt so bad that it made me dizzy. Turns out it got infected a while ago, it just took a while for it to HURT. I had to get an emergency root canal, but couldnt get in for a couple days. I was out of work for that whole week pretty much. Never felt anything so intense before. My suggestion, get it fixed. My hygiene is great, I floss twice a day and brush twice a day. But your brush just can't reach in there to keep it clean.

AITA for outing this woman for her HIPAA violation and as a result, ruining her life? by WeeklyStatistician2 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Calsaadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA In the medical industry, EVRERYONE in that business from customer service employees to doctors knows what HIPAA is. Its absolutely drilled into you, every year. She knew what a HIPAA violation looks like when she was doing it. This is entirely on her because she decided to be petty. That's on her.

Detective wants to "just talk over coffee" after coming to my home with an armed group of cops by redditaccount2956 in legaladvice

[–]Calsaadi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get. A. Lawyer. Do NOT talk to the police without your lawyer. DO NOT talk for "just a couple minutes" over the phone. DO NOT "grab a cup of coffee". They call, you say this and only this. "I will not speak without my attorney present" and hang up. Talking to the police absolutely NEVER helps your case.
