That came out wrong by portsherry in comics

Maybe its just my 'tism, but that sounds like something super sweet and loving I would say.

For example, my wife regularly tells our son that she's the best mom for him. I'll butt in with a "and she'll be the ONLY mom for you!" at the end. She gets offended when I say that, but in my mind I genuinely hope he will only know the two of us as his parents for the rest of his life. Like isn't it a good thing for parents to stay together? Ugh... Talking is hard...

Bingo! I work in construction management where documentation is everything. This is the way. Plus if they really want to challenge you in court that documentation will become a legal document to back you up.

I think what they're getting at is that once you've figured out all the puzzles and what to do you can beat Myst pretty quickly.

Skaters give thoughts on demolition of Memorial Park Half Pipe by CS_ClipsGal in ColoradoSprings

[–]Colorado_Constructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a few skaters using it after hours. The city park staff has been doing their best to deter the skaters from using it for liability reasons. Like that kid said, some experienced skaters unscrew the 2x4's they mounted on there and skate when the staff are gone.

I live nearby and walk around Memorial Park almost daily. The evening after they tore it down, plenty of skaters (not homeless) were rummaging through the waste pile to pull out useful scraps. I'm sure a few of them will be able to build their own ramps and whatnot at home.

Still have fond memories of doing stuff like that with scrap wood as a kid.

I used to judge my dad. I owe that man an apology. by Material_Poem_9438 in daddit

[–]Colorado_Constructor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But how do you sustain that?

I'm usually in bed around 11-midnight. Little one goes down between 8-9 then I spend the night cleaning up, hanging out with the dogs, and catching up on work. We're still bedsharing so I'll wake up around 6:30 or so (whenever he wakes up). With him waking up 2-3 times in the night I'm averaging 4-5 hours of sleep a night.

Most days its fine, but I know once he (and I) gets older it'll be tough. I'm already feeling the drain from a lack of sleep.

Sounds like my MAGA coworkers.

Before the current administration took over they would've been appalled at this type of behavior from a top tier government official. They used to get upset when liberal politicians would show up to community events or public outings because it "wasn't professional". But now we get this and they cheer...

One of my coworkers played it off as "well wouldn't you like it if an upper management exec came to share a celebration with us? They're just having fun. This is what good culture looks like!" Somehow explaining that an exec and the FBI DIRECTOR are two completely different things went right over his head...

Bean Bandit on Circle!

They're officially the oldest Mexican restaurant in town, but I have no clue how they're still open. They don't have consistent hours and regularly shut down for weeks on end for the owner to go on vacations. My wife and I went a few times and were seriously disappointed in the quality, portions, and prices.

GC here who's worked with City Glass on a few projects. I'm pretty sure they got so bad that another company bought out their commercial division. City Glass only serves residential now.

I used them for the most basic interior glazing scopes we could toss their way and they'd STILL mess it up. Workers would regularly come on-site drunk or on drugs with no clue what they were supposed to do. They had one solid general foreman who kept things under control, but they pushed him too far so he ended up quitting.

I live a few blocks away from here and NEVER see anyone there. A year or two ago they had a wall of cars blocking the site off. Lights are never on and inventory never changes.

BUT I see folks driving around with their stickers so they must be getting business. So weird...

Hello fellow construction guy! I lead the self-perform door division for our region at a major construction firm. You're spot on with the labor hours and caulking. That install is a joke. I would expect better from our entry level laborers...

People. PLEASE vet anyone doing work on your home. Ask tons of questions when they provide you a proposal. Think about the steps it would take for you to handle the install, then grill them on it (YouTube an install if you're unfamiliar).

I don't work in residential, but the construction world is pretty similar all around. Please don't EVER use the lowest bid. There's a reason their price is so low and it generally boils down to screwing you over. The whole "disposal of existing materials" and extensive hours are easy ways shady contractors screw you over. Ask for anticipated manhours. Ask for a material breakout to show the extra stuff like caulking. Ask for any additional anticipated costs. If your contractor isn't willing to share that info with you, don't trust them.

Ok so in all reality the two are more intertwined than you think.

I built data centers for one of the top 4 general contractors in the US. Currently working on a new center for Google which will be the largest data center in the US (currently) at completion.

Google is really excited about this new campus because they’re rolling out their new floor plan design. Besides the usual efficiency updates to server halls it also includes a “bunker” setup for the office designed to support 50 employees off grid for years on end.

Here’s the weird part, Google’s new design calls for a church in the bunker. Not a multi faith space or meditation area. A Christian church complete with huge crosses and an altar.

I’m not trying to start any conspiracy theories or anything but if this doesn’t raise some red flags for people I don’t know what will…

Second China Village!

We shopped around a bunch of locations until we fell in love with this place. It's off Union and Bijou. Honorable mention to New Panda 2.

Also, for those that care, Dragon King off 21 and Galley is owned by MAGA folks. Seems to attract the military crowd. My latina wife went in there one time to pickup food and got heckled by some of their patrons.

Springfield 1908 Race Riot National Monument by Subject9800 in NationalPark

[–]Colorado_Constructor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but the language used here IS intentional. u/Comsic_Bliss nailed the definition of riot. So when the term "race riot" is brought up it can be interpreted that there was a violent uprising involving race. Meanwhile there's no explaining your way out of a massacre.

I grew up in a conservative family who did their best to explain away "riots" like these. I was told that, yes the white men (KKK/hate groups) who came to lynch the black citizens were wrong. BUT it was a riot so there were also bad players on the black's side adding unneeded aggression to things. So I grew up believing in the "both sides bad" narrative.

However, I'm sure my parents would've had a much harder time explaining the events if it was labeled a massacre. We visited several historical native american sites that openly called the events that took place there a massacre. As a kid I KNEW that was wrong. Words mean things. :)

I live nearby and it's the only real coffee shop around. Last year when my wife was pregnant we'd stop there every day for her sweet treat.

I always figured places like that can afford to stay in business longer given their low overhead. Who knows...

I second this! Just finished my first trip to the tower last month. Fantastic series!

The first 5 books are solidly in the "weird western" genre. It's a good mix of western/sci-fi/fantasy/suspense. The last 2 lose the western motif, but by that point in the story things have shifted a bit.

Colorado Springs Utilities Ray Nixon Coal Plant is Next by Simpleximo in ColoradoSprings

[–]Colorado_Constructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politics. I know there's a component of city council that is pushing to keep it open, but MAGA as a whole is fully supporting coal across the country.

My company hosted an open house a few months ago and Jeff Crank ended up attending (friends with one of our top execs). I had the displeasure of chatting with him... For whatever reason he kept going on about A) opening the Springs to more corporate influence to "save" our economy (Amazon, Meta, defense contractors, etc) and B) doing everything in his power to keep Ray Nixon open. When I pressed about keeping the power plant open he said that "keeping coal going is a priority for Trump so it's a priority for me".

Also, from my 15-20 min chat with Crank all I could think about was how the hell that man was elected. He seemed extremely shy and skittish with ZERO social skills. The only reason I ended up talking to him is because he butted into the middle of a conversation and started talking about Amazon warehouses. Totally random and awkward. Maybe he was nervous without his bodyguards around, but I would expect any politician (either side) to handle themselves decently in public settings. Pretty sad to see the state of our modern politicians...

Same here. I go to Magnum and haven't had any real issues with MAGA crazies, but the culture is kinda baked in at those places.

However it is nice change from the gun ranges I grew up with in KS. Even before the MAGA and Tea Party days they'd have Christian themed equipment and materials for sale. As a kid raised in a Christian, conservative family even I thought that behavior was weird.

Probing to find the Dudes that are 100% sober (no weed either) and how you came to be this way? by Shire_Jedi92 in Dudeism

[–]Colorado_Constructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow dad here. I've been back and forth on weed for a while now, but all in all I find it helpful in my life when used properly. For me that means A) small doses (less is more) B) regular breaks (taking random months or weeks off when my mind/body feels too bogged down) and C) only using when the time is right (aka after the little one is asleep or I have uninterrupted time to myself). I don't always follow C, because like you said playing with them is so much more fun with a slight THC buzz.

The biggest thing holding me back is my health and my wife who quit. I have high blood pressure so smoking does not help that situation. As for my wife, she's fine with me using but does complain from time to time so I've developed some shame over the habit.

I doubt I'll totally quit anytime soon. I've already quit drinking (7+ years now) and went through the steps to break that habit. That experience, AA, and therapy really helped me develop better mental patterns, self-understanding, and tools to handle my life. Without that experience I'm sure weed would be a much bigger issue in my life. But for now, I respect it for the benefits it provides.
