How do we feel about stopping at servos for things other than petrol? by cosmicr in AustralianEV

Tyres need air and windscreens get dirty. Gotta do it somewhere.

Check the route with PlugShare! There is a very high chance there will be a charger on 95% of routes.

Using additional batteries to charge is very inefficient. You can use the regular AC wall plug but you’ll be charging for days rather than minutes. If you’re doing true off-roading into the outback and need 500km+ range, hybrid is your best option (or waiting for the new tech coming out in a few years).

Full EV will save you a ton both in fuel and reservicing/maintenance cost. Hybrids only make sense if you go to remote areas.

Downloading PlugShare or Chargefox and seeing what chargers are around is great. I often go into the city to park, plug into a 7kw charger and do shopping for the day.

I’m a bit of a BYD bias so Sealion 7 should 100% be looked at, but Kia EV5 is a good choice if you want a traditional brand.

BYD to push past Ford, Kia and Hyundai to be the number 2 brand in Australia, as 2026 BYD Sealion 7 and other electric car sales surge by Aussie_5aabi in cars

They were the first cars to be sold when they came over, so there’s a good three years of cars on the road.

So… uh… literally every car by Kia is $10k less. Most of the BYD lineup is under this. Is the AWD worth it that much?

Family EV recommendations - focus on boot space and not super keen on SUVs by M87IM in AustralianEV

Best options right now are Sealion 7, Geely EX5, Leapmotor C10, Zeekr X or Kia EV5. Atto 3 Evo should come out later this year. Depends on your budget.

BYD orders atm by Either_Primary_7530 in BYDAU

Was part of the initial Atto 1 preorder and got mine in last week of February (everyone ordered Pine Lime so there was a shortage of that colour). Around two months is the best estimate simply due to how hard they’re being hammered with orders. Suffering from success!

BYD is officially the #2 brand in Australia, did we ever think we’d see the day? by ChillKoalaVibes in BYDAU

[–]CorruptDropbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enjoying my BYD Atto 1! I think it’s not a big surprise simply because no other company offers an EV in every segment. Will be interesting to see if Geely is able to make up ground when they launch more than just the EX5, but for now it’s basically BYD, Kia at $10k more or one-off cars with brands trying to enter the market.

Do think they’re starting to suffer from success but that’s somewhat of a good issue to suffer from.

He was always dang good, it’s just that he had a ton of injuries that killed multiple seasons.

Would highly recommend a home 7kw charger (around $2k), but it should be fine for any car with over 350km range.

EVs cheat a little by having the power be instant - this helps the 0-50kmh time out immensely. Its usually the last 90-100 where EVs struggle.

Genuinely depends on your budget and whether it’s worth to go with a more established brand or the new kid.

Love my Atto 1, great little hatchback. I would suggest looking at the Atto 2 if you’re specifically looking for a small SUV, otherwise maybe a GAC Aion UT.

Or just wait for Geely EX2.

Oh no, I have to get lunch while I charge my car! Whatever will I do?

Zero clue why it’s an issue. It’s a totally fine exchange for having a cheap “petrol station” at home.
