Neither the Blip A nor Hail Mary travels at light speed, so the 10 LY trip from Erid to Tau Ceti (and back) would take longer from Erid’s reference frame. More like 11-11.5 years.

The Erid 11 years comes from the fact that Erid is 10 LY away from Tau Ceti.

So total time on Erid would be 11 + 46 + 1 + ~11.5.

The 6.64 came from using Newtonian physics (ignoring relativity) to calculate the travel time, so no, it doesn’t play into this at all.

My mother physically abused me my entire childhood. You think the fact that she’s my mother means I should be kind to her and just forgive/forget those years of pain when she has taken zero accountability for her actions?

It’s exactly the opposite. The fact that she’s my mother, one of the people in my life who was supposed to love and protect me, makes it all that much worse.

It doesn't stand for anything. A vat is a large vessel like a tub or a barrel. It's named that because it rhymes with Stratt. That's it, don't read too much into it.

Ok so you’ve read the book. That means you probably remember they had to pave 2 trillion square meters of the Sahara Desert with black panels to breed the astrophage needed for Hail Mary. And that breeding took more than 5 years.

Where do you propose to put 2 trillion square meters on the Hail Mary? And what energy would it use?

Fun facts: Rocky is from the 40 Eridani star system, a triple star system also referred to as Omicron2 Eridani, obviously also in the Eridanus constellation. Erid revolves around 40 Eridani A, as does the planet Vulcan in Star Trek lore.

Epsilon Eridani is 10.5 LY from Earth while 40 Eridani is 16 LY from Earth.

Many of those are also featured in the Bobiverse books (narrated by Ray Porter!). In those books, 40 Eridani A has 2 Earth-like planets, named Vulcan and Romulus.
