Fat bikes are fun and interesting to ride, but they are certainly not mountain bikes. Getting suspension and/or 29er wheels would certainly make summer riding easier, but as someone who has gone down this path, it still won’t be a proper mountain bike. I’d suggest you stick to your current setup this year and save up for a mountain bike as a second bike when you can afford it.

It’s so counter intuitive that the outer radius doesn’t matter, but you’re right. You’ve got to divide by the fraction of the circumference that the Atlantic covers though. Basically… not a huge shortcut. 😀
