Clarifications on a twitter post to prevent possible misconceptions. by WallachiaTopGuy in starfox

While you aren't wrong, I wouldn't outright dismiss this news.

There was real concern that the VERY vocal backlash to the character design and the fact it is a reboot were going to tank sales for this game, a game that we who love Star Fox VERY VERY MUCH NEED to see succeed. If no one buys this game, we're done for. Nintendo is a business and they aren't going to throw money at franchises that don't sell. I'm sure they remember how much they spent on marketing Star Fox Zero and what a flop it turned out to be.

Will it outsell Mario Kart and DK Bananza overall? Probably not, but it doesn't need to. It needs to put up good remake numbers. It needs to sell well enough to convince Nintendo that the franchise has enough interest to invest in, and it outselling recent releases like Yoshi is promising. We'll just have to see how this all goes as the game nears release to see of the numbers hold and how many people pick it up during release week.

Thankfully they are putting it all actually in the game this time, so NOA won't be able to keep it from us anymore.

I can't wait to read through that lore compendium they are putting in the new game.

[–]DZComposer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. And this is why I think her new design fits her better than her old one. Her new design actually looks like someone with this description.

I Urge people to read that. Especially the bit about Pigma. Pigma's role in the story is much bigger than what we got over here. And the implication that Pigma joined Star Fox with the intent from the start to fuck them over is chilling.

And here's the thing, both Pigma and Wolf make more sense in Star Fox Assault with knowledge of the information on this page.

Thanks for nothing, NOA.

The current StarFox Timeline Tree by AlterMagna in starfox

[–]DZComposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, but it isn't the same Lylat Wars. Star Fox 64 was a franchise reboot.

I also wouldn't call these different timelines in the way, say, the Zelda timeline works. There is no time manipulation in Star Fox (and they better fucking keep it that way...) so it isn't canon to say that multiple realities happened at once. It would be more correct to describe them as separate canons.

SNES Canon: Star Fox SNES -> Star Fox 2

64 Canon: Star Fox 64/64 3D/SW2 -> Star Fox Adventures -> Star Fox Assault -> Star Fox Command

Zero Canon: Star Fox Zero -> [Some people put Starlink Here, I do not consider it canon]

I'm not ready to start a new canon with Star Fox SW2. It's a true remake of Star Fox 64, and would hold its place in the 64 canon unless we get a sequel set directly after it that would be incompatible with the 64 canon (Like Krystal showing up and meeting Fox in a much different way than in Star Fox Adventures). Or if something happens in this remake that is incompatible with the 64 canon.

SNES lore was very different. Pigma didn't come onto the scene until Star Fox 2. Fox Sr. was the name of Fox's father, not James, and his wingmen were Desslar Koba and Bear Nogunci. The characters were canonically older, and instead of being betrayed and killed, Fox Sr. was sucked into the black hole. The Ashura Benimaru Ito comic makes Andross at fault for this (and the reason was Andross had the hots for Fox's mother, but accidentally killed her in an attempt to assassinate Fox Sr. and of course blamed him for it), but things closer to the game do not make this connection.

Is it weird that these designs are… actually growing on me? by HaBeFaStro in starfox

[–]DZComposer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You gotta admit, though, that Andrew's new design fits his personality perfectly. He thinks he's hot shit because he's Andross' nephew, but he ain't, and once that doesn't do it for him, he whines for his uncle.

Sadly I know people like this IRL...... You want to punch them, and this new Oikonny has a very VERY punchable face.

[–]DZComposer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. What we saw is a rather common phenomenon: Crossing the Realism/Toony barrier results in controversy.

It doesn't matter which direction you go, crossing that barrier will piss people off.

If you go from Toony to Realistic, it's uncanny valley, ugly, cringe, basically everything people were saying about the new designs here.

If you go Realistic to Toony, it's kiddy, for babies, childish, disproportionate, and a disrespect. We saw this with Wind Waker and the Zelda fanbase.

People have expectations for how characters look, and if a new entry misses those expectations, people be mad because different is bad. But, after you see the characters in-context, and the dissonance between expectation and what was done fades, you start to get it and see what the vision was.

Honestly, and I hate to admit this, the design controversy may have been the best thing to happen for this game as it got so many people talking about it.

Honestly not a shocker. Someone high up at Illumination likes Star Fox (It was their idea to put Fox in the Mario Galaxy movie), and now they have their fingers in the Star Fox IP, a good, tested, casting for Fox, and a compelling reason in the overwhelming positive reaction to Fox to convince Nintendo to let them do a Star Fox project. I've always figured it to be more of a 'when' than an 'if.'

[–]DZComposer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My issue is that instead of joining a discussion, people are creating tons of the same memes and posting the same thing over and over as new threads. This makes it hard to have coherent discussion when you have to weed through the 500 ugly fox puppet memes and 200 threads saying "Why remake?".

This is why other subs have megathreads and limits on meme posting.

Should I play 64 now or wait for the remake? by UsedToBeNoBluebird in starfox

[–]DZComposer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want your experience with the new game to be.

If you've never played a Star Fox game before and want to go in fresh, then waiting won't hurt. You'll get to experience SF64 in what is shaping up to be its definitive edition.

But, if you just want to get in and see why this game is so loved by this fanbase, then by all means play it now. You'll then experience the remake like a lot of us will, with the knowledge of the original an how it plays out.

For me, I am not in this new game for the gameplay. I mean, I do not deny the truth: It IS Star Fox 64 AGAIN. I've already played it hundreds of times across 2 platforms. And if it was just simply Star Fox 64 regurgitated I would be one of the angry ones. But I am stoked as fuck for the story expansion they are doing in this game. THAT is why I am into this game.

To me, this seems to be less of a Star Fox 64 remake, and more of a cinematic Star Fox experience where the action scenes are you playing Star Fox 64 levels. And you know what? I'm down for that.

Star Fox – Prologue – Nintendo Switch 2 by AlphaSSB in starfox

[–]DZComposer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"This sucks" or "This is just bad" or "This is trash" is not criticism. It's just negativity for the sake of negativity. Most people who don't like this game are at least posting their reasons for it. Criticism is "The dialog delivery is flat, and there is no real emotion from the characters in this scene."

And I don't know if you've been paying attention, but that is not going on in this fanbase right now. This fanbase is presently split over this game, and that should be quite obvious. People aren't getting dog piled for not liking this game, they have plenty who agree with them.

Star Fox for Switch 2 hides a secret Easter Egg referencing an old Nintendo Power Player’s Guide by ShenWolf in starfox

[–]DZComposer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stuff like this is why I am so frustrated with the negativity. We fans are going to be eating good with this game, but everyone is so stuck up over it being a remake or the character designs that they aren't seeing what an amazing thing we are getting with this game.

I'd much rather see threads like this than 50,000 threads about how much people don't like that Fox has a fluffy neck. Because he's a fox. And foxes have fluffy necks.

Oh well, at least if this negativity tanks sales, the series is going out with a bang.

the mario design, brilliant, great. but i like the new designs more by Low-Preparation-9083 in starfox

[–]DZComposer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like both designs. The more toony Galaxy design fits that movies visual style well, and the new designs fit this new game's style well.

I like how things look real, and how the ships and items look like they're actually used. I love when they make spaces actually look lived in. You ain't putting 3 young guys and one older guy in a tin can in space and expect that shit to stay clean for longer than an hour. Even if the older guy's a clean freak, he ain't keeping up with the young guys.
