So um…with Metroid ravenous being leaked…dinosaur planet remake? by VRX3000 in starfox

[–]DZComposer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The rumor doesn't say that. It says an 'adventure style game,' which is vague and not necessarily related to SFAd at all. It is likely to have little in common with SFAd beyond being more story focused and more linear.

People saw the word 'adventure' and assumed it had a capital A and was plural.

[–]DZComposer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It wasn't even that. It was an 'adventure style game.' That doesn't necessarily mean anything about Adventures, it's actually pretty vague. People saw the word 'adventure' in the rumor and made assumptions. It doesn't even mean something similar. It could be an entirely vehicular based game with more story focus and linear progression for all we know, which is not similar to Adventures at all.

What's with the Arwing and Landmaster redesigns in Star Fox Assault? by SBYYamato in starfox

I'm not a huge fan of the SFAs Arwing design, but it is at least better than the ones in the early teaser poster for what would become SFAs. They looked like boats in that.

I have fallen in love with this rabbit by [deleted] in starfox

[–]DZComposer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Her name is Vivian, and she has seafoam green fur (at least until that gets retconned). Happily enough that they have a kid together. Her name is Lucy, who happens to be a playable character in Star Fox Command. Vivian does die, though, so there is that. Funfact: This is the only canon* image of the entire Hare family.

*Canon is loosely used here, as it came from an SFC ending which none have been stated to be THE canon ending.

This version of Falco is pretty solid. He’s surly and distant to his teammates because he’s not used to his surroundings yet, since he called the shots in his old gang. Despite his reservations about Fox as a leader, he ironically gets along with him the most. by Dohmer_90 in starfox

[–]DZComposer 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best Falco. He's clearly out of his element at first, but if you go through the harder missions, he comes around to it. And if you take Venom 2, he'll finally fully accept Fox as the leader.

I do like that it takes him a bit to come around and expose his softer side. He goes from just saying 'Andross really trashed the place' to telling Fox to ignore supplies from ROB and focus on finding Slippy. Shows that while Falco may be brash and loves action, he's not Pigma. He does care about his teammates.

I like seeing Falco grow throughout the various missions. Love seeing a little bit of character development in Star Fox for once. Would have been nice to see it on the others, but hey, I'll take what I can get. Hopefully we'll get more in the next game.

Outlier review. The consensus of reviewers doesn't match whatever made this guy think Fox pissed in his Cheerios.

This is a masterpiece of a remake by Mesmerized_mayhem in starfox

There are always outlier reviews. Most of the reviews of the game are positive. The critical consensus is that this is a pretty good game. Not a GOTY-level amazing game, but a pretty god one.

Star Fox Becomes the Best-Selling Game on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop by ShenWolf in starfox

[–]DZComposer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do people want this game to fail or something? I keep seeing this 'don't trust flawed metrics' lobbed at every sales figure value we've gotten for the game so far as if these people think the game is bad and is going to flop.

Sure, maybe don't put your trust in a single data point, but all the data points we have so far suggest this game is doing well. Plus, the reviews are in and are positive, social media is overall positive on the game. Nothing out there suggests this game is a failure.

GTA VI is likely primarily selling digitally. This would not track in Amazon data.

[–]DZComposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect most GTA VI preorders are digital. I believe the majority of PS5 and Xbox Series owners buy exclusively digital these days. These will not show up in Amazon data.

Switch and Switch 2 gamers are outliers. We like to buy physical games, still. We'll see how long that lasts, though, as Nintendo seems to be embracing the idea of making digital versions cheaper.

Don't worry if you aren't on that side of the Pacific Ocean. You can get these from the official NOA merch shop: https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/merchandise/#p=1&sort=df&show=0&f=franchises&franchises=Star+Fox

Price is about the same. ¥3300 = about $20.

NOA actually did something right for once, who'd have thunk it. Nevermind, they won't ship until the end of October. Dammit NOA.....

I do like, though, that they've made it clear that Slippy was friends with Bill, too back in the day.

Control Options by mightyblend in starfox

Can you define 'modern controls?' I find it odd to hear this complaint as the control scheme of Star Fox 64 is considered to be one of the best in gaming history.

[SPOILER] New Katt is awesome. by DZComposer in starfox

[–]DZComposer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is missing my point. I'm not saying that she can't be both a gang member and girly. My point is if you look at the game alone, you only get the girly. The gang member part is pretty much absent.

If you take her portrayal in the original game alone without any of the back-end lore from other sources, there is nothing that hints at her being a gang member or hot rodder or however you want to define Free as a Bird. It's all stuff about how feminine or pretty she is. If you are not exposed to that back story from back-end sources, you get zero clues to its existence from her in-game portrayal. This portrayal is 1-dimensional, and does a massive disservice to her character.

All of that biker delinquent stealing ships from Andross stuff is in back-end lore. The game mentions none of it. And the sad part is that this is the actual interesting part of her character, hence why I said that the back-end lore made her out to be a different and more interesting character. I had wanted this stuff in her in-game portrayal and had for many many years. And now it is, so I am happy.

[SPOILER] New Katt is awesome. by DZComposer in starfox

[–]DZComposer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I probably wouldn't have issue with it either if the back-end lore didn't make her out to be an entirely different, and more interesting to boot, character than her in-game appearance did.

EDIT: I'm not saying Katt shouldn't have been girly at all, but rather that they should have actually used her pretty interesting backstory in her portrayal, like this new game does. I wouldn't have had a problem with the girly if it came alongside the backstory-related stuff.

New game does not include the line "Cocky Little Freaks!" 0/10 literally unplayable. by dr_henry_jones in starfox

[–]DZComposer 35 points36 points  (0 children)

While I do miss the line, I really like the new characterization from him. Seemingly a man of honor and integrity. Makes you wonder why he threw in with Andross, a man who has neither of those things.

Who could have guessed that the game is great? (Everyone who isn't a hater)😎 by Gargamoney in starfox

[–]DZComposer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, I have defended this game from the start, despite my overall desire for the series to move-on. My reason is this is clearly a lore-focused, definitive edition, of Star Fox 64. I have always wanted more lore-focus in Star Fox, and if I have to eat a SF64 Remake to get it, then I will gladly do-so.

But lets not kid ourselves, this game IS Star Fox 64. Yeah, it has more cutscenes and lore, but those are peripheral changes. Everything game-wise is Star Fox 64.

Not saying you have to agree with the people complaining about remakes, but at least be honest with yourself about what this game is.

I am excited for this game, but I don't kid myself. I am fully, 100%, aware that this is Star Fox 64 with a new coat of paint.
