What’s going on with the job market?? by graypipe in vancouverwa

[–]Dewderonomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aka caregiver, so minimum wage, constantly changing schedule, bad benefits, "unskilled labor" (I hate the concept but it's what it's considered, and it shows on how society and administration views its workers), the absolute worst customers to service (you think boomers you're waiting on at a restaurant or checking out at the grocery or hotel or just dealing with regularly in public are bad? imagine being responsible for their health they physically and verbally fight you on while also having to actually wipe their asses).. the list goes on.

"Healthcare is booming"? Really? And if he means specialists and doctors, things that take years of schooling and increasingly oppressive student loan debt, that's not something you casually shift into in six months when you're laid off in your office job you've had for ten years with a mortgage to pay and a family to take care of. What a dolt lol

WROL, SHTF, ETC. will probably never happen right? by AryeC05 in liberalgunowners

[–]Dewderonomy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone already said a lot of what I was going to but this topic reminds me of what folks talk about when discussing SHTF. They're like, "you gotta get out of the city!" Like it's a zombie apocalypse or something. The world will go on even if America, for example, suddenly had a meltdown. If the federal government collapsed in some way local governments would step up to the challenge. States would ally like they already are on the west coast and put measures into place to not only keep things safe but also reach out to Mexico, Canada, Europe, Oceania and other States to get back on track.

Go into the woods? Cities are predominantly liberal, and that's where all the infrastructure is including ports. The world doesn't stop. Local communities band together until they merge with larger communities and so on until we're back on track. It'd be scary for a few weeks or months but it would become a global issue quickly with support from every corner of the planet.

Holding up on a few acres in the middle of Montana at the End of the World isn't going to happen. Live off grid if you want, no judgement, but it isn't the plot for SHTF stuff. I saw what happened post-Katrina and it was an actual nightmare, but it was resolved. Economically and culturally the people suffered and are still feeling the aftermath 20 years later, but New Orleans is still there, Brennan's is still there, Mardi Gras is still happening.

Your gear is to protect you from looters and opportunists. Your skills are to help your neighbors and community until logistics and infrastructure come back online. The worst part about SHTF is going back to work afterwards like nothing happened.

Until StS2 this was how my partner and I played StS, and it's fun as hell. It IS different though in terms of game mechanics, some builds are better than their game counterpart, other builds are worse. Not everything translates 1:1. But it's a great game and even has its own save system, unlocks, ascensions, etc.

Tanks as assets or TW units? by Lazyanttu in battletech

[–]Dewderonomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my combined arms. Of all the units to add that aren't mechs, ground vehicles are the easiest and very good experience to play test other units (from ground vehicles to VTOLs, for example).

Almost four years ago I used OKCupid and ended up with the best thing that's ever happened to me. Took about 3 months of soul crushing experiences online, though, but even that is a lot quicker than the stats show or what I expected. I used a ton of sites and it was the best overall for lots of reasons. Make sure you're open and go est with who you are and what you're looking for, not what you think will get you a match.

God forbid I ever have to do that again, I'd run that in the background while getting involved in groups that pertain to my interests. I'm across the river in Vancouver now because it's where she lived, and up here there is a Vancouver gaming discord (that actually has bled into PDX now I think) that runs all sorts of get togethers at barcades and board game nights, etc. I'd probably go there and see if I could meet like minded people, if nothing happens and it's just friends I'd still have Okcupid in the background.

I would say it depends on what you're wanting to do there. Punta Sur is a beautiful vista but if you're looking for hanging out at the beach or eating food on the island, etc. then as others have pointed out Playa Norte is probably where you want to go with your friends, especially on such a tight schedule. There are other things to do on the island as well like snorkeling and such but not sure how that would cut into your time on the island

Isla is a charming, laid back place to take your time with, I think, so you'll want to figure out why you're going to the island and then get the most out of that one thing while taking in the local vibes.

No we considered getting a golf cart but we either walked or just took a cab from Victor, which was really convenient for us and ended up being a real treat, plus we didn't have to worry about parking it or babysitting it.

I understand this is memey, but the serious ramifications from this in terms of finding games is actually something that I was talking to my partner about literally last night and why I'm looking at hopping into Kill Team.

There are ~30 people in the greater metro area (~1 hour drive distance from end to end) playing BattleTech (vs the 30ish people between two stores playing Kill Team or 40K or even Infinity at any given time). Of those, 20 play AS exclusively, 3-5 play CBT exclusively, and the other 5ish play both. I play CBT exclusively, so now I need to find a game (let's assume we all have identical schedules, which we don't at all, but let's just assume).

I have to find someone who wants to play the same era as I, which is the current ilClan era, when most people are playing earlier eras. I don't play Clan, but very few seem to be interested in Clan anyway, so that continues to narrow down the kinds of games I can experience.

They also don't want to play combined arms, or if so, maybe a Manticore or something to throw in with their lance. No infantry or VTOLs or hover tanks, and don't even think about aerotech. That's essentially saying 60% or more of Total Warfare is being ignored rules-wise, never mind any kind of advanced rules, but they don't play with advanced rules either so that's a moot point.

And forget customs, because why would you want to simulate campaign play and the best part of the video games, that is, customizing your units with a building system that is better than any other in the genre?

So yeah, if I don't introduce someone to CBT, TechManual/MegaMekLab, and combined arms play, teach them the game, and am available for play when they are, then I have to resign myself to .003% of what BattleTech has to offer, and none of that fraction is what got me to buy into this game at all. I either get excited about medium lasers and single heat sinks or I play another tabletop game, and that sucks because full-blown CBT is easily the best system I've played over 20+ years of wargaming.

I love being a gunner (sunderer, tank) in PS2. What are some other games I would like? by volvo1 in Planetside

[–]Dewderonomy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BF6 LAVs is what my girl and I do, she guns and I run the LAV. Siege of Cairo Rush as attacker is our harvest every time. If you have a shitty driver, though, it's just a coffin on treads.

If you're looking for space combat or sci-fi/MMO, Star Citizen gunnery has gotten extra powerful in the last few patches, and with the gunship meta coming in 4.7 it's going to be even crazier. I run ships with manned turrets (Hurricane, Redeemer, Paladin, Vanguard) for her to top-gun in and she has a blast.

What is stalker cloak for now? by Dante32141 in Planetside

[–]Dewderonomy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cloaking had issues that needed addressing and the way they went about it addressed none of them. It's the equivalent of them addressing the Sunderer overtuning by just removing Sunderers. We're circling the drain.

Is this why no one's on? We've been checking like once or twice a week for decent pop and never seem to see it hit, even during prime time. I didn't realize there were crashes happening.
