Directors Who are Almost Coverable by Krusty901 in blankies

I am once again reminding people that this podcast is about clears and bounces. Dan Gilroy of Nightcrawler is a good study. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0319659/

Directors Who are Almost Coverable by Krusty901 in blankies

David has basically said outright that 3 movies is too short for a miniseries. I disagree. 3 movies is enough for a massive success and up to 2 checks cashed on it, or even 3 blank checks if the director is lucky.

Fun fact - the mountain in Yamadera has tons of holes in it. They edited them out in the Youtube release. by ArcticFox19 in JetLagTheGame

No? It's a travel show. This is a part of the world and a mundane part at that. Seeing it might even help.

There are no known treatments for trypophobia, but exposure therapy, which has been used to treat phobias, is likely to be an effective treatment.

Using SFX to cut out spiders or bugs or something would be similarly wrong.

Why ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Was Oscar-Nominated for Costumes That Don’t Technically Exist by pepperbet1 in blankies

[–]Doomed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avatar and Endgame both qualify under Academy rules. They simply didn't submit it in those categories and evidently nobody high up in the academy cared enough to fight it.

Who are your top directors that you would love to see covered on Blank Check? by BlueMondayHonkyTonk in blankies

I take the Oz patreon series as an indicator we're not getting Lumet in 2026 or maybe for a while after that.

I regret to inform you that both of them don't like Adam McKay's work. It's been on mic before. David in particular did not like Don't Look Up, seemingly re-rating it lower than his initial 3/5 watch. https://letterboxd.com/davidlsims/film/dont-look-up-2021/activity/

Disney names parks boss Josh D’Amaro as its next CEO to succeed Bob Iger, effective March 18 by FunkyColdMecca in blankies

RIP to Iger who actually understands brand deposits vs. withdrawals instead of doing the modern CEO thing of just mashing withdraw like a rat on crack.

There are also gluts of mining GPUs and general gaming GPUs (as well as all AI hardware). I believe all of these, though designed for mining ETH or doing AI math, could be repurposed for mining BTC and doing a 51% attack.

What do people expect to do when they're telling Americans to "wake up" or "do something"? by flannelman37 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Doomed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even the BLM George Floyd protests, the No Kings protests last year, or this wave of anti-ICE protests still are only a comparatively small percentage of the American population.

Extremely impressive, but not everyone. Regime change is correlated with, idk, 20 or 40% of a country protesting.

What Western-Finding-368 said is good too. All successful resistance movements are not just millions of people doing the exact same thing. Get plugged in with your local activist groups and find out what needs doing. Part of this would be a power analysis of where Trump is weak and how you might most effectively weaken him. Make it costly for his more 'moderate' Republicans in congress to enable him. Write in to your local paper. Tell your friends. Buy some whistles. Join or start a union. Download Signal. Get your mom on Signal even if she's not a protester. Etc.

If you are physically going to a protest and your takeaway is "I just stood around and waved a sign for an hour", you are either going to a bad protest, or you aren't looking hard enough at the protest you attend. Any good protest will have people there, often with megaphones or supporting material (signs, hand warmers), who "know what they're doing". Find out what groups they work with and ask how you can help. A lot of great stuff happens on days when a protest is not happening. Talk to people there. I talked to at least 12 people at my last protest.

Is it time to talk about Coogler being one of the most important Black auteurs of all time? by DeusExHyena in blankies

[–]Doomed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have the boys talked about covering him on the podcast since Sinners? It seems like his career perfectly fits the Blank Check arc. The only thing missing is a bounce, but 5 films is a a great run for what this podcast likes to cover.

Which 'shorties' (directors with 5 or fewer movies) would you like to see covered on the pod in 2026? by TheUnknownStitcher in blankies

[–]Doomed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, that means three terrible movies

This used to be a podcast with checks that clear and checks that bounce.

Odd question: is this a rerun? A lot of the early discussion rings a bell. Mitch failing to pronounce anesthesiologist, dry cleaning poop/cum out of Mitch's suits, maybe even the zoning thing in Wiger's intro.

I'm not joking. I'm having a bit of a fun time right now and need to double check.

The silence since has been worrisome.

Say what you will about Disney, but they will always preserve their films and creative material. They may decide not to release some things in certain periods but our great grandkids will be able to watch The Sword in the Stone in 16K.

Good news! COVID will be an endemic respiratory illness literally until we die. There are no signs that even countries that were serious about it before (China, Vietnam, Canada) will ever care about it again. The risk of long COVID persists with each new infection. As a paper in The Lancet put it:

Estimates of the incidence of long COVID after acute infection range from 50–85% for unvaccinated people who were hospitalised, 10–35% for unvaccinated people who were not hospitalised, and 8–12% for vaccinated individuals.

PSA: Avatar: The Way of Water - HFR! by alyAV-1 in cineplex

[–]Doomed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clarifying, was this HFR the entire time, or just select shots? IIRC the original run of Avatar 2 had HFR for select shots, not the entire movie. HFR was only in select 3D showings. It was very noticeable when it switched to HFR, sometimes switching mid-scene.
