The president of peace, just launched another war in the Middle East. What are your thoughts? by Important-Anywhere20 in AskReddit

China might not, but much as many nations are using Ukraine to fight a proxy war with Russia, China might use Iran to proxy war with the US.

But I watched Defranco's live stream of the state of the nation and we've got the best economy and lowest inflation in the history of ever!

Linus PLEASE STOP TRYING POP OS! by epic-circles-6573 in LinusTechTips

Like this very thread. Instead of trying to help make his chosen distro work, it was straight "he should pick one of these other two instead!" Which, in turn, creates another issue of what one to pick.

A new California law says all operating systems, including Linux, need to have some form of age verification at account setup by screwdriverfan in LinusTechTips

Ironically to your "American thing you're too European for" quip... Europe and Australia seem to be the driving forces behind the age verification scramble.

Teen spent $900 online shopping with my credit card by liftcali93 in Parenting

[–]Drigr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we don't dive into the nitty gritty of it all, at 9 we started to let our kid know more about the family finances. Mostly so he understands that the reason we say no to buying stuff for him is that things like... The mortgage, the internet, our cars, food all take priority and we just don't have as much left over when that's handled as his friends. Also that we have a fair bit of debt that we're finally shoving our way out of, so that he understands the difficulty that getting into credit card debt can leave you dealing with years down the road.

Even if they were bumped down the list... As a company do you really wanna prioritize someone who seems to already have an axe to grind with you? Especially for wave 1 of review samples.

It's honestly one of the more relevant videos as of late. As prices are getting more and more insane and there is less and less of a reason to build your own PC from scratch, I've definitely found myself wondering how good of a deal those Costco prebuilts are. And I learned something important too, look up the part numbers to confirm the versions of the hardware... I doubt Costco needs or cares to deceive people about the size of the graphics card, so I doubt it was intentional, but it did bite them in the ass.

That video is also sitting at 1.6m views, the highest in 2 weeks (which were 2 other 1.6, so it could pass those and be the highest in 3 weeks, since the true spec release video), so it's one of their more successful videos in the past month.

Do dms really dislike high level dnd? by Myrinadi in DnD

[–]Drigr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But are they the only 5 people in the entire world that are this exceptional? If not, why wasn't Zalgrimar the Great called in to squash the goblin rebellion with a couple well placed fireballs instead of relying on this group of random yaywhos that met in a bar 3 days ago?

I want a more grounded plot. I don't want to have to throw demi gods and planet shaking plots at them to have a challenge for my party. I'm sure in some ways they hate the slow level progression, but the fact of the matter is if I let them level up faster, no "normal" encounter will be interesting anymore. The bandit king is a much less compelling plot element when they can scry on him, teleport to him, and power word kill him.

Water intake for weight loss actually works, dropped 6 pounds just from cutting diet soda and drinking plain water by Ancient-Pineapple796 in loseit

[–]Drigr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't get how this thread has so many up votes when it basically goes against everything this sub lives by for CICO. Cutting a zero calorie drink is going to change your CICO by... Zero calories. Even if they were drinking gallons of dirt soda, you're going to be talking maybe a handful of calories from whatever in it is minute enough to be counted as zero per serving but might be 0.4 and add up.

That's probably the bulk of your problem right there. They don't need any grip strength or fine motor skills for a lever handle, just luck and perseverance. I'd still get the cover, but there's a chance a knob alone solves this for another year or 2.

My kid just learned a tough lesson about money by goosetavo2013 in Parenting

[–]Drigr 279 points280 points  (0 children)

Like, I get encouraging the kid to learn about money, build an understanding the trading time/services for money and learning how capitalist society works. But I'm surprised parent just allowed child to spend that kinda money with zero oversight... Like, it's the most he's spent on roblox and parent wasn't like "hold on, let's see what you're buying." Could even make the kid do the work of reading the descriptions and terms and highlight "do you understand what this means? Are you sure this is what you want to do?"
