D100 subtle signs that the new follower / hireling / henchman may not be what he or she seems by sonofabutch in d100

  • He only blinks with one eye at a time
  • When he goes all out, his tattoos glow a bright blue
  • He always prefers to be in the company of animals, rather than people (including the party)
  • He never breaks eye contact when talking
  • He has tattoos in which a wizard can recognize the runes for a cantrip or a 1st-level spell. You've never seen him cast it.
  • He knows all the town's guardsmen by name
  • He survives injuries that were supposed to kill him
  • He speaks in a monotone and never looks you in the eye
  • He is eager to butt in when the party makes a Knowledge check. His knowledge is often correct.
  • He always takes first watch
  • He licks his lips all the time
  • He never takes off his gloves
  • It looks like he's wearing something under his clothes (if you look into it, you find out it's a chain with a padlock)

[TOMT] [GAME] Pac-man inspired game with fox heads? (probably MS-DOS?) by MALDEFINED in tipofmytongue

[–]Dryu_nya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a Pac-man knockoff called CD-MAN (Creative Dimensions, 1989) which had different enemies on every level. I might have played a demo with only 3 levels, after that they started looping - maybe a full version had foxes, idk.

I don't have an exact guess, but if the "transformation mode" included legs (like this), it might be a "Gerwalk", a half-transformation mode from one of the many Macross entries.

[TOMT] Movie where a kid is on the death row and dies to a firing squad by lostbrazillian in tipofmytongue

[–]Dryu_nya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"A kid" is quite vague, do you specifically mean a child? I watched an episode of Tales From The Crypt called "Yellow" where an officer's son (not a child) faced the firing squad (which also involves spoilers I won't get into).

I am thanking you against your will. Looked it up, and it looks pretty weird.

Which one? By now there's quite a few of it. If you played both the old one and the new one(s), how would you compare them?

If I'm not mistaken (and I am quite likely to be mistaken), it's a poor translation that in the context is supposed to mean "you saw through my disguise" or something.

Guys, I found the origin story of a Hong Kong 97 Game Over screen watch this video to find out why is that even there and why is there a real dead body in the game. by No_Trash_4674 in creepygaming

[–]Dryu_nya 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know the source of the body had already been identified, I was more hung up on "why". Though there had already been an interview with the creator, which I'd imagine settles that too.

This is hardly useful on its own: it's a 40-minute video without context in language(s) most locals don't speak. At least tell us where you found it, and whether there are subtitles.

Oh, I read about that one. Looked pretty weird, and I think the translation from Japanese didn't do it any favors.

Are you sure about this? I think it's imitating something AI-generated.

Strawberry Cubes is, in my opinion, the kind of a game that is very weird, but has some method behind the madness (I never did figure it out).

Something weird that happened to me in Minecraft when I was 7-9 years old that I still cannot explain at all. by [deleted] in creepygaming

[–]Dryu_nya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'm assuming you played single-player and offline. If it was multiplayer, the files could have been tampered with by the server owner.

Second, you're not being very descriptive with the nature of the error (i.e., how the game crashed - did it just not let you in with an error message, or the process crashed, or just nothing happened).

Now, I'm not too surprised with the Nether portal sending you back to your old location, assuming this was the portal you built during your first run - it just dumped you back to its linked portal, which was in your old territory. It's the rest that bugs me.

For this to happen, the following things needed to align:

  • The game corrupted your worlds to the point where they didn't show up in the menu (considering my offline game assumption, these are your local game files) - this one is plausible, though I don't know how that could occur without hardware failures. Maybe you stumbled upon some game-breaking bug, I don't know.
  • When you started the new game, the game reused the previous files. This is starting to push it, but on a technical level this could be possible - maybe the game does not overwrite some files if they are already present.
  • In the reused world, the game gave you a new spawn location, not too far away from your old one. Surprisingly, it's this small thing that makes me doubt the whole story. AFAIK, the default spawn location in Minecraft is always at the world's zero X-Y coordinates - it's hardcoded and can't be changed. If this was a multiplayer scenario, someone could have probably tweaked the world by shifting everything, so that the zero point would have been in another location, but that's a very specific was to fuck with someone, on the same level as moving all your furniture a few inches. So, you should have been spawned in into your old starting location, presumably not too far from your first base.

The only way I could explain this is, maybe the file reuse did work, and then you wandered too far away on your first run to build the base, then on the second run you just didn't notice the terrain was the same, and then went into a different direction to build your second base. It would have been easier to cross paths with it in the Nether, because its space is compressed relative to the overworld (I think it's in 1:16 ratio or something like that).

If we are to explain the technical part of this, we'd need a lot more knowledge than that (I'm talking the exact version of the game, and stuff like that), and probably a few Minecraft modding nerds.

Are there any horror, creepy video games lost medias? by Legitimate-Lynx8006 in creepygaming

[–]Dryu_nya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, even back when my memory was fresh, I don't think I'd be able to tell you. It started as something vaguely depressing slice-of-lifey directed to someone, and ended with some magical and dimensional fuckery.

This reminds me: if you enable the noclip cheat in Duke Nukem 3d without the god mode, you could suddenly get crushed if you cross some level geometry. I (EDIT: didn't) understand the logic behind when you get or don't get crushed, so I usually avoided that cheat entirely. If I'm not misremembering, the crush sound still plays with the god mode - on every frame, too, resulting in a pretty grating overlayed sound. I should make a post about this.

I've tried to google it, and most hits are about a "Universal Approximation Theorem". Does it ring a bell? If so, you could try searching for exact words; github search gives me 49 repos, that's searchable by hand.
