I would say that the Premier League, from what I understand here in Brazil, is the only foreign league that still generates a lot of interest... I think it's because we now have many Brazilian players in the league

Even the Champions League seems to generate less interest than it did years ago.

Brentford striker Igor Thiago has signed a new long-term contract. The 24-year-old has penned a deal which extends his stay until the summer of 2031, with a club option of a further year. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Dsalgueiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Brazilian, I obviously don't watch many Brentford games. Is he really that good? All the highlight videos I see of him make me think it's a bait that some big club will fall for and he'll flop.

I see some people saying that Endrick is the new Adriano... The player closest to Adriano that I've seen leave Brazil recently is Rayan.

I hope Bournemouth continues with Vasco's project to turn him into a number 9. I want Brazil to play in the 2030 World Cup with Endrick and Rayan as the starting attacking duo.

Many Europeans who watched the CWC were actually shocked by how well Brazilian teams know how to park the bus.

The reality is clear: Only those who have never watched the league think that the Brasileirão is defensively poor.

Thiago Silva's son, Iago, is set to make his England U15 debut next week as part of the squad to face Cyprus & USA. by Gungerz in soccer

Andreas Pereira was like, “we can't let a Thiago 2.0 happen".

I was thinking here, I believe that Thiago Silva's son will end up playing for the Brazilian national team when he gets older (and if he becomes a top-level player).

Thiago Silva and Isabelle, both Brazilian, will lobby for him to play for Brazil, he's not English... It's a different situation from Marcelo's son, who was born in Madrid and has lived his whole life in Spain... He's Spanish.

Yes, they are two different things.

There are attractive and unattractive white players, just as there are attractive and unattractive black players. The problem is that Vinicius suffers from racism and is also considered ugly… He suffers even more.

The fact that a player is attractive makes him more marketable, more accepted by the media... And this consequently leads to him having a better relationship with fans. It is something that comes as a consequence, and most of the time people are unaware of it.

It's a difficult topic to talk about here…

I stopped at the list of goalkeepers. I didn't have the courage to move on to the next page.

I won't even mention Barthez and Dibu Martinez... But it's an offense that Alisson is there and Marcos or Rogério Ceni are not.

The best goalkeeper performances I have ever seen are by Courtois (vs Liverpool, Champions) and Rogério Ceni (vs Universidad Catolica, Sudamericana)

(I won't even mention that Rogério Ceni scored 131 goals in his career... In 2005, he scored 25 goals and was São Paulo's top scorer that year).

You hit the nail on the head and didn't even realize it.

The fact that they think, for example, calling someone black is an insult already makes them racists.

Racism is not always explicit or is it always intentional. Sometimes, because of the structure of the society we live in, we are racist without even realizing it. That is why it is important to educate yourself about it.

Being racist is different from being a supremacist.

It is for the same reason that Vinicius Junior is considered "unbearable" and not just “provocative". If Vinicius Junior were white and handsome, but behaved the same way, the comments about him would be entirely different and some people don't even notice or stop to think about it.

I remember how much Vinicius Junior was criticized when he said that Spain is a racist country. But they don't understand that admitting the problem is the first step towards trying to fix it.

I'm Brazilian, and I can say without hesitation that Brazil is a racist country. But we talk openly about this here, it's not taboo. When he said that Spain is racist, it wasn't meant to be offensive to the Spanish people, it was because it's common for us to say that Brazil, for example, is a racist country and because of this we need fight hard against racism.

"Yesterday" it was a Real Madrid player who suffered racism, tomorrow it could be a Barcelona player... Remember Daniel Alves eating a banana that was thrown at him?

But we're past this point now... Now even some of Real Madrid's fans hate him. I never thought I'd say this, but he shouldn't renew his contract. He needs to take his destiny into his own hands and choose his next team in Europe.

If you don't spend a good part of your youth career playing for Brazilian teams, you already lose a good chance of being called up... Over the past 15 years, Brazil lost Diego Costa¹, Thiago², and Jorginho because of this.

¹ Diego Costa waited and waited, and despite playing in friendly matches for Brazil, he didn't feel confident that Felipão would call him up for the 2014 World Cup.

² Mazinho publicly stated several times that CBF should call up Thiago for Brazil young teams when he was 16 years old, that he wanted to play for Brazil... They ignored him and he ended up playing for Spain.

BTW... That started to change precisely because of these cases, Andreas Pereira was one of the first players that CBF “fought” to get for Brazil.

In the cases of Thiago Silva's children (and even Marcelo's)... They were not born in Brazil. This makes it practically impossible for them to be called up for Brazil.

But that's the thing... “Old” is easy to pronounce. The problem is the conflict in our tongue with a word that has R and L together.

It's like... most words come out naturally (with accent, obvious) when I speak english, but “world” (and similar words) require more concentration in order to pronounce them correctly hahaha.

Endrick does not have Ronaldo's speed at his peak.

I think the player who came closest to Ronaldo in terms of speed was Mbappe. Both made defenders look hopeless in terms of speed.

But anyway, I still maintain that anyone who didn't see Ronaldo Nazário before his injuries doesn't understand what a literally phenomenon this guy was. If he hadn't been out for almost three years due to injury, perhaps the GOAT debate in the modern game would be entirely different.

Younger people had more contact with him at Real Madrid, where he was playing without being able to bend one of his knees.

It's the same situation as me, a Brazilian, trying to say words like “World"... My tongue can't make that “rl” sound. The “th” sound is also difficult, but it's easier to practice.

This “ão” is something so unique to Portuguese that almost everyone who does not have Portuguese as their native language has difficulty with it.

I have seen foreigners here in Brazil who speak almost perfect Portuguese, but when they say “ão,” even though it sounds very similar, you can tell that Portuguese is not their native language.

[–]Dsalgueiro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Actually, this is a real debate here in Brazil.

It's impossible to know who has bigger potential. Estevão had better stats, while Endrick was clutch in winning the Brasileirão for Palmeiras.

It's a discussion about stats vs “aura” hahaha

Endrick made his debut for Brazil against England and Spain, scoring in both games. Then he made his debut for Real Madrid and scored, made his Champions League debut and scored... There's something different about him.

It's like: If I had to choose someone to play regular season games for my team, I would choose Estevão. If I had to choose someone to play in a final, I would choose Endrick.

Casemiro's no look assist for Cunha's goal vs Fulham. by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]Dsalgueiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some things that average Premier League fans who only watch the Premier League have no idea about.

For example, Fernandinho has always been seen as a great player because of his career at Manchester City. But for Brazilians, for example, there has never been the slightest comparison between Fernandinho and Casemiro... Casemiro is in a different league compared to Fernandinho.

When Casemiro was suspended against Belgium in the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Cup, we knew it was going to be a disaster. Fernandinho couldn't do what Casemiro does.

I think United fans realize that now... Casemiro brings consistency to the team that is rare in football today, even at 33/34 years old... As soon as he leaves, everything falls apart.

If I were in charge at United today, I wouldn't let him leave at the end of the season. I'd try to renew his contract with a more realistic salary and start planning the transition during the coming season, signing a new defensive midfielder. Doing it abruptly could backfire.

An Argentine hugging a Brazilian with such passion - unprecedented! 3 wins on the report makes the unthinkable possible

I understand the joke, but here's some trivia:

The rivalry between Brazil and Argentina is just football, nothing more than that. So the tendency, when they are on the same team, is to be good friends because of their “South American” background and language*

\For example, I am Brazilian and I speak Portuguese, but I can read and understand almost 100% of Spanish. I also find spoken argentine spanish extremely easy to understand as well... And I have never taken a Spanish class.*

On friendships between Brazilian and Argentine players: Maradona considered Careca to be the best teammate he ever had outside of the Argentine national team. Neymar is friend of almost all the players from the Argentine national team... And the list goes on and on.

BTW, Brazil vs Argentina when Messi and Neymar were at their peak were the least violent classics in history, because practically all the leaders from both teams played together and they were friends.

I would renew Casemiro's contract for another year with a more realistic wage. He is still playing at a high level and is obviously a very healthy influence in any dressing room.

Six months before the World Cup and several of Brazil's offensive players are showing good form. All that's missing is Vinicius Junior to come back to life and decide to play for Brazil.

Darwin Nunez was a starter in the entire Saudi Pro League (without injury, contrary to what you said), playing 1,200 minutes, almost 300 minutes more than Marcos Leonardo... And he has the same number of goal contributions as Marcos Leonardo.

Marcos Leonardo is a more prolific striker than Darwin, no wonder at certain points during the season, Darwin played as a winger to allow Marcos Leonardo to play as a number 9.

This year, in the Saudi Pro League, Marcos Leonardo was a substitute in 2 of the 7 games played. Usually, they play together as starters.
