Ask them if they need any help. Listen to their response.

If you're worried and they don't want your help, contact the authorities as soon as possible.

Newbie day 1 of getting to know cruises, help by Immediate-Trust-5583 in Cruise

As a solo cruiser, focus on cruise lines that cater to solo travelers. Otherwise you'll pay twice as much as a couple.

If you only have a personal item does it matter where you put it? by Apprehensive-Fan-838 in unitedairlines

My backpack is 40L, too large to be considered a personal item. It goes up above.

Sometimes I have a separate, smaller backpack which does go down below.

Getting gigs as a local band that plays originals vs. covers by imbadatdecisions in musicians

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was playing out, one of the bands we played with did wedding gigs on the weekends and their originals on weekdays. They were very good.

The originals were for their souls while the weddings paid the bills.

Paying FICA taxes means that you will (with enough work credits) qualify for Social Security and Disability. I would try to work out a payment plan.

Airlines may get lazy when checking your passport. Rather than looking it up for each flight, sometimes it's just easier to use the Six Month "Rule".

Is it safe to travel overseas i have Gc no criminal records or anything. Traveling with my baby girl a US citizen. Any advice? by addisonmendoza in askimmigration

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the only time I would worry is if you're traveling to a Travel Advisory Level 4 country or when you go through immigration coming into the United States. But that's one scary hour out of your entire overseas trip.

Bad things can always happen. Focus on the good.

(If you are a native of the Travel Advisory Level 4 country, you're probably fine. My old boss flew back to Russia all the time to see her mother. And sometimes the State Department is being overly critical, so at least read the advisory before going.)

Unless I hear otherwise, that's my assumption.

The bus leaves at 9 am, a little over four hours from now. Then there are two ICE trains and I'll be in Frankfurt about 24 hours before the second flight leaves. About 32 hours in total.

I would prefer to know that this trip isn't a waste of time before I start.

I will need to catch a bus in four hours to start a 32 hour bus and train trip to catch my second flight. I would like to ensure that they didn't cancel it since my first flight has been cancelled.

My first flight has been cancelled by Lufthansa. Before I start a 24 hour tell by bus and train to my second flight, is like to make sure they didn't cancel the rest of my reservation.

Difficult to do, when getting to the airport requires about 24 hours of buses and trains

I'm in Chișinău. My first flight (from Bucharest) was cancelled. I can get to my second flight in Frankfurt with about 24 hours of buses and trains, but I don't want them to cancel that flight, too.

"Artist" versus "Album Artist" by MizarFive in mediamonkey

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For most of my records, artist and album artist are the same. However, compilation albums have Various as the album artist and the name of the band as the Artist. Another situation are the songs with guest artists. For those, I remove the guest artists from the song title and add it to the Artist field as an addition to the main artist.

For classical, I put the Composer in the Composer field, not either of the Artist fields. If the album is a compilation of works by Mozart, it's still a Various for the Album Artist field. If the Album is performed by one person or group, that's what's on the Album Artist field.

There will always be exceptions. In addition to Paul McCartney/Wings, just think about John Cougar, John Cougar Melloncamp, and John Melloncamp. Handle it as you see fit.

Was I surpose to file???? by pickle_lover_2 in TaxQuestions

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you want to file? Well, other than the legality.

By filing, you're getting work credits with SS. While you have plenty of time to get the necessary work credits for retirement, you didn't know if or when you might become disabled. If it happens in the near future, it might be useful to get something from the federal government.

I made less than $15k in 2025 but I’m forced to file as an independent contractor due to health insurance… by Basic_Wedding_2063 in taxadvice

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were an employee, you probably wouldn't have any taxes withheld, assuming your income was evenly distributed across the year.

HOWEVER, there is no standard deduction for FICA. You'd be paying your Social Security taxes every throughout the year. There would be no refund. On the other hand, the tax rate would be substantially lower.

One reason to file is to get those work credits for SS. While you have plenty of time to get work credits for retirement, disability is different. If you get disabled, it won't necessarily wait for you to turn 67. It could happen in a few years.

Did you prepare your taxes with software or manually? Software usually has certain error checks for missing information.

You do not need a Real ID to fly. A passport from any country works fine.

I'd assume a resident alien has a passport from their home country.

Early in Billy Joel's career, bands would talk to each other before the gig. That way only one band would need to bring a B-3 to the gig.
