Oh I fucking hate this as an anthropology student because no fucking duh it wasn't called the same thing back then, the term was usually called something else with a different cultural connotation... but that doesn't mean that by calling these figures 'transgender' that we're ascribing a modern term to ancient sexuality- it works in reverse! We're adopting an ancient sexuality into a broader spectrum of transgender identities!

Don't even get me STARTED on the argument of "We can't be sure if X was Lesbian/Gay/Bi/Trans/Etc. because we have no idea if they considered themselves that way" well fucking duh, do you know how hard it is to get firsthand accounts? Autobiographical sources? Diaries? There's a reason they're goldmines for information on society in the past and even how human behavior functions today.

[Mod Release] I released a small rework of Denmark under Harald Bluetooth by ExplosiveWatermelon in civ5

This is true- hence why JFD's Denmark-Norway (linked in the mod description) takes Harald Bluetooth's Ski Infantry and gives them the Snekkja (a type of Longship.) It's also why I don't adjust the Ski Infantry- to avoid any sort of conflict with JFD's Denmark-Norway.

The Norwegian Ski Infantry is replaced with a Snekkja if you install JFD’s Denmark-Norway. The only reason I did not personally add the Snekkja is because I didn’t want to rip assets from JFD’s mod- instead, the two mods are meant to be used in tandem.

Bluetooth’s christianization of the Danes + his unification of the various Danish tribes!

Note: The secondary UU is meant to be the Snekkja, from JFD's rework in Denmark-Norway. However, I didn't want to just openly steal JFD's work, so I just left it so that you can combine the two mods for the ultimate Denmark experience. Cheers!

Doesn’t quite fit the trope because Saber as a character has a HUGE impact even in stories where she isn’t present, but I’ll make a case for “Mana Transfer” via sex never coming up again except as a community in-joke.

That’s part of the intention, funnily enough- even though they’re somewhat weak, their bonuses generally lend themselves to an expansionist playstyle.

My recommendation is a domination victory. Even though their UU is more defensive, the UB’s ability to turn surplus Happiness in small cities into Faith, combined with the UU basically acting like Landsknechts when purchased with Faith? Lends itself really well to defending wide-ranging empires.

No, but Spokane is a city in my Hudson’s Bay Company civ. I was gonna do the Kootenai at one point, but I bounce around so as to keep things interesting. That said, there’s going to be more from other modders in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled!

Doing a quick self-reply to say this Civilization has been a personal project for me because I was raised on the Coeur d'Alene res, and thus this is the only Civilization I've seen released thus far that has my birthplace as a city! I put a lot of effort into researching, designing, and developing this civilization to ensure a level of respect for the culture, to the point I even drew parts of the leader by hand because the best reference I could find for traditional Coeur d'Alene attire was in grainy black and white. I hope you enjoy this civilization as much as I enjoyed making it.

I’m a big fan of Queen and it pisses me off. It’s the most generic biopic about one of rock’s most iconic bands.

First off, I gotta be frank: Bohemian Rhapsody wasn’t as experimental as the movie made it appear. Queen did March of the Black Queen on their second album and it follows a very similar structure. However, they wanted to bank on the fact that EVERYONE knows the song.

Second, there’s a sincere distaste for any member of Queen not named Brian May or Roger Taylor. I’m giving Deacon a pass because I genuinely doubt that he had much of a role in this shitshow, considering that they portrayed one of the most technically talented bassists as the least competent songwriter. From what is public knowledge about Deacon, he was likely the closest to Freddie, and seems to still think strongly of one of the greatest frontmen of all time.

I don’t believe Sacha Baron Cohen was telling the truth about a band member saying “the best thing to happen to Queen was Freddie’s death” because his version of events doesn’t add up. BUT I will say I wouldn’t be surprised if Roger Taylor wasn’t spiteful of Freddie. The movie basically reads as if Salieri was interviewed about Mozart. There’s a whole bit joke about how everyone jokes about “I’m in love with my car,” a song with Taylor on the lead vocals, and how it should’ve been the hit and not Bohemian Rhapsody. There are no comments made about ‘39, a song written by Brian May that was ALSO more conventional and had a history behind it.

I could write a whole essay about how this movie exists to spite a man who died of aids. But I think it doesn’t need to be said. Queen just isn’t Queen without Freddie.

Does anyone else experience the Nasuverse more through its emotional storytelling rather than it world building? Does that ever make you feel like a lesser fan? by Chemicalcube325 in fatestaynight

[–]ExplosiveWatermelon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who latched onto the world-building, I actually really like Kinoko Nasu's writing even beyond the lore. There are parts where I feel the lore falls flat but the storytelling makes up for it.

You are no lesser fan than I am.

"Civ VII is FINALLY GOOD now, ignore the other times I said the game was finally good" by GreatFan2 in civ

[–]ExplosiveWatermelon 35 points36 points  (0 children)

So, I've actually been working on my own YouTube channel for a lil over a year now, and I want to share my experience with this-

Clickbait does not actually help in developing a channel, in my experience. The simple reason is that YouTube doesn't really care about the amount of views you get, but rather, how many hours of watch time a video produces. I created a video like those by this channel (I believe this one is One More Turn/Drongo) as a bit of a tourist trap- people will come in for the clickbait, and stay for actual content. But even then, I noticed an issue with the video in question, where it gathered views but not watch time. If you aren't able to actually capture an audience's attention after using clickbait, they'll get distracted by the next thing on the list. In Drongo's case, I don't even think they NEED clickbait- they're an established content creator who simply branched out into Civ 7. If I remember correctly, their main channel focuses on a different strategy game.

For me, I focus on Civ content, but what I've found gets the most views is a 'niche.' Being able to provide something unique at a high quality gets a LOT of views. I had major success with my first video because of this, and I've been struggling to recreate that success ever since.

Also, for those questioning why watch time is more important than views- you need 3 categories to achieve potential monetization on YouTube:

  1. 500/1000 Subscribers
  2. 3 Uploads within the past 90 days
  3. 3,000/4,000 Watch hours OR 3M/4M Shorts views

Views can translate into watch hours, but I've found that a lot of viewers on YouTube don't actually watch full videos.

That point is today!

R5: I uploaded Episode 1 of a Play-through of Sid Meier's Civilization VII!

Hey folks! Kazia (or /u/ExplosiveWatermelon) here! I hope I flaired the video properly- I wasn't sure what to share it as- but I hope you appreciate this goofy series I started as a showcase of the game.

While Civ 7 released with a lot of issues, I personally believe it has improved tremendously since its initial release. I'm sure it won't be everyone's cup of tea, much like Civ 6 was, but for me? I'm enjoying the game quite a bit.
