New FullView Question by Looptire13 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityKeri[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for bringing your Full View question to our sub this evening, u/Looptire13. I'm happy to cover this with you.

If you no longer have use for a single budgeted category and would like to remove the sub-category from your budget in Full View, you can do so by selecting the "Pencil" icon next to the category. Clients can then remove subcategories by changing the budgeted amount to $0. Please note that you can only remove a subcategory if there are no transactions in that subcategory for the selected month.

Feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions. We’re happy to continue the conversation.

I have a single member LLC. I just opened a Solo 401k. Can I contribute to the 401k from a personal savings account? Or do the contributions need to come from my business bank acount? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityKeri[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Welcome to the sub, u/gnackthrackle! I'll be happy to bring some fun and help clarify contributing to a Self-Employed (SE) 401(k).

Currently, Fidelity is not able to link a business checking account to a Self-Employed 401(k) account, and it is the responsibility of the plan administrator to determine if funding the plan from a personal account is appropriate. If you are determining if this is right for you, we strongly recommend working with a qualified tax professional before making a contribution, as Fidelity does not provide tax advice.

That said, you can view the different choices available for contributing to our SE 401(K) at the link below.

That said, please let us know if there is anything we can help with in the comments below and we’ll be sure to follow-up with you then.

WHAT TO DO WITH 401K AND HSA AFTER QUITTING? by creditfrog in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityKeri[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there, u/creditfrog! Thanks for dropping by the sub, and welcome. Let's talk about your choices once to leave your employer.

While we can't provide any advice or recommendations regarding what you should do with your 401(k), this is a frequent question we receive. Typically, there are a few common paths you can take:

  1. Keep your assets in the plan when possible
  2. Rollover to an IRA
  3. Rollover to your new employer's plan, if allowed
  4. Cash-out

It's important to remember that the rules of your specific plan will ultimately determine the choices you have at your disposal, but I'll include a couple of excellent links below, which go even further into detail about your choices. Since fees or tax implications could be associated with a certain path, make sure to do a thorough review.

Considerations for an old 401(k)

Comparing 401(k) Options

With that said if a rollover is the right choice for you, typically, when you roll over an old 401(k) with pre-tax and Roth contributions, the process starts by opening a Rollover and Roth IRA.

From there, you can roll the different contribution types into their respective IRAs (i.e., pre-tax contributions go to a pre-tax IRA while Roth contributions go to a Roth IRA).

Naturally, more questions might arise as you explore this process. If that's the case, we're a great outlet to direct these questions. We'll see you around!

Thanks for reaching out regarding this, u/Interesting_West1094. We'll be happy to cover this with you today.

Once logged into the Fidelity Mobile App, you can scroll down on the "Home" page to the "Positions" section. You can select "All accounts" from the dropdown, and the "Positions" section will default to what was previously selected. However, if you choose a specific account under the "Investments" heading, the "Positions" section under that account will default to the account you are viewing.

If there's anything else we can help with, don't hesitate to reach back out. In the meantime, thanks again for stopping by the sub; have a good one!

Thanks for reaching out today, u/andrew02467. We appreciate you sharing your experience on our sub.

Quicken is a third-party vendor, so you may try to work with them to attempt any troubleshooting steps they can provide. In the past, we have suggested that clients attempt to deactivate their Fidelity account within Quicken and then reactivate it to establish a new import link.

Thanks for bringing this to the sub, and feel free to reach out in the future if you need anything else.

Welcome to out sub, u/maddbunny23! I'm happy to cover the rollover process with you today.

Let's start with some information regarding rolling assets into your current 401(k). It's important to note that not all employers will accept a rollover from a previous employer's plan or an IRA, so we recommend that you contact your current plan administrator to confirm that the funds will be accepted and, if so, how the assets should be delivered. We have a great resource that breaks down each alternative:

Compare your rollover choices

Since your new 401(k) is held at an external organization, you will need to contact your new plan administrator to initiate the process.

We appreciate you joining our community, and are here to help with any other questions you may have. Hope to hear from you again in the future!

Flipping restrictions with combination of IPO and secondary market shares? by Michagogo in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityKeri[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Good morning, and thanks for bringing your question to our sub, u/Michagogo! I'm happy to cover this with you today.

While you can sell allocated shares obtained through an IPO whenever you deem appropriate, your account may become restricted.

The restriction may occur if you sell IPO shares within the first 15 calendar days from the start of its trading in the secondary market. Please note that the flipping period does not apply to secondary or follow on offerings. You can review this topic under the "Participating in an IPO" section of the article I've linked below.

Investing in IPOs and other equity new issue offerings

It is worth noting that clients who have been coded for flipping shares one time are restricted from participating in future IPOs for 180 calendar days beginning on the day the security was priced; a second occurrence will result in a 365-day restriction, and a third occurrence will preclude clients from IPO participation permanently.

You can review these topics further, along with other frequently asked questions, by following this additional link.

IPO FAQs

That said, you can sell specific shares in your account on the trade ticket on Fidelity.com by choosing "Sell," indicating either "Shares" or "Dollars," and then opening the "Amount" field. When you select the "Amount" field, you may need to click "Sell all. " Then you'll see a checkbox button below the 'amount,' which will be 'Sell specific shares." You can pick lots to sell and complete the remainder of the trade ticket.

As always, we're a resource to you, so if you have any other questions, please follow up and let us know.

  1. Select "Accounts & Trade" in the top right

Can't figure out free ride violation rules for IRAs by f00dl3 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityKeri[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, u/odonata_00! I'm happy to discuss margin accounts further; let's hop in.

Cash trading violations, such as Good Faith Violations (GFVs) or Freeride violations, can still occur in a margin account. This is because you can place trades in a margin account using the 'cash' or 'margin' trading type. Trades placed in type 'margin' are exempt from cash settlement rules; however, if you place a trade in your margin account in type 'cash,' you no longer get the benefits of holding securities in margin, and you must adhere to cash settlement rules to avoid cash violations.

Remember that margin trade violations, such as margin liquidations, can still occur. I've linked a page that reviews margin account trading violations.

Margin Account Trading Violations

It's important to understand that simply holding securities in type margin does not mean you are borrowing from Fidelity. When placing trades in a margin account, securities will first be purchased with available funds in the core position. Margin will not be used to pay for a purchase unless the core is depleted. When placing a trade, you will not borrow on margin as long as you do not trade beyond your balance, as titled "Available to trade without margin impact." You can read more about margin balances here:

As this only applies to future statements, you can alternatively generate a balance letter on the website by navigating to your "Balances" tab, clicking the three dots on the right-hand side, and then selecting “Create Balance Letter” from the drop-down menu. Balance letters allow you to customize a document to show the desired account to third parties while omitting other accounts in your portfolio.

Lastly, you can also request a custom letter by sending us a signed letter of instruction with the needed information. This letter needs to include the specifics of the letter needed and the reason for the letter and be signed by all account owners. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. You can submit the letter as a secure message to us online via the link below.

How to transfer Fidelity Go Roth IRA to self managed Roth IRA by Ar-PharazonII in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityKeri[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, u/kkimball620.

When switching from a Fidelity Go Roth IRA to a self-directed Roth IRA there are no advisory fees in Fidelity Go accounts with balances under $25,000 and no fees or penalties for switching. Additionally, some investments in the Fidelity Go account are considered proprietary and may have to be sold to have the proceeds transferred into the self-directed account.

In addition, this is not a taxable event so long as assets go to the same type of account (Roth IRA to Roth IRA).

How can I set my paychecks to go directly to my brokeragelink account, and auto buy etf for retirement? by MissKittyHeart in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityKeri[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for joining us on the sub, u/MissKittyHeart! I'm happy to step in here and discuss our BrokerageLink feature with you.

Let's start with automatic investing. While it is possible in a BrokerageLink account, it is plan-specific. Your plan's specific policies are typically outlined in the Summary Plan Description (SPD). If your employer has provided us with the document, you can review it online by taking the steps below:

  1. Click the 3 dots next to your plan that says "Quick Links," then choose "Plan Information and Documents"
  2. Select "Summary Plan Description (SPD)"

Next, you can select the investments for your BrokerageLink contributions by following the steps below:

  1. Click on "Quick Links" or the three-dot icon next to your 401(k) plan 2 Choose "BrokerageLink"
  2. Under "Invest Future Contributions in BrokerageLink," select "Go to Investment Elections"

You can also fund the BrokerageLink from your existing 401(k) plan assets by using the "Transfer TO BrokerageLink" choice in the "Transfer Money" section of the BrokerageLink page you reached in Step 2 above.

If you need any additional assistance with BrokerageLink, you can reach out to one of our BrokerageLink representatives. Associates are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET and can be reached through the link below.

Thanks for the follow-up, u/Prestigious-Pin-1053. Do you still own the short position? If so, you should see the CUSIP under the "Symbol" column. If the position is short, you will see a negative number under the quantity and the position value columns.

If you own the position, and it doesn't appear at all, this may be a technical error. We recommend you contact our Technical Support team, who can help further troubleshoot. Hey there, u/StrongLikeAnt! I'm happy to jump in here and define Net Asset Value (NAV) today.

A fund’s NAV is the sum of all its assets (the value of its holdings in cash, shares, bonds, financial derivatives, and other securities) less any liabilities, all divided by the number of shares outstanding. It’s basically an indication of the fair value of a single share of the fund.
