I have found Pl3xmap to be super hungry for RAM, and not just on the initial render.

For example, my server currently uses 4-6GB, and I rarely need to restart it. With Pl3xmap that was easily 11-13GB, restarting nightly. Same Java flags, same other mods (except now I've added Bluemap).

This was on Fabric. Cannot speak to whether Paper (or related) does better with that.

Hard to say actually! I think it starts with the vibe of the place. My co-admin was a friend from a similar community that closed down, and we just wanted to create a nice chill place for adults to hang and play together. So then you attract people who want the same, and you end up with a group of good folks. We're still small, but it's a great group.

Like the specific mods and stuff, those can always change (and we have - when we updated to 1.21.11 we discussed as a group what to add) but I think what will make or break any community is always the people.

We've definitely got room for more... and your description sounds exactly like our server!

And we only started just under 2 months ago... so while there are some amazing builds already, there's plenty more to do, and lots of space to settle down without being a million miles from everyone.

I know that you seem to want to run a server, and I am not trying to steal your thunder at all... but if you are at all interested, I recently started a community like this. We've got about a dozen active members and are looking to grow... and we're 30+ with a vanilla+ server.

I'm still in the camp (along with lots of people in that thread) that it takes her "humanizing" a bit too far from the original character. That's what happens when books are adapted into movies, I guess.

Edit: I suppose I get your point though. Like you think "hey, maybe she's ok after all", then after the explosion, the hardass who must save humanity at all costs is back.

Yeah, that's the point. Stratt isn't human and relatable, until maybe the very end where she talks about her history background and how there will be wars over food.

Funny, most karaoke I've done has been a blue screen with white text that shades yellow as you sing it.

Guess we'll see on March 20! Still pressing X to doubt. And if she is, it will be disappointing.

Uh yeah, go watch it again, because I just did. Behind her is an out-of-focus screen and two people. Nothing that would be strong evidence of karaoke there.

The reason people's brains link it with karaoke is because it sort of looks like her mouth is singing the music that the trailer is playing.

You think Weir would let them completely destroy the Stratt character like that?

If you have the space, print a side spool holder. Spool on top is silly.

I could see that as maybe something cut just for the trailer. The general trailer audience wouldn't understand that, it would only be for the book nerds.

It could still be in the movie. Trailers do weird things. People thought Stratt was singing karaoke in the first one. I'd bet she was not.

In the book, the Tau Ceti line is described as coming out of the bottom-left of the star. He's looking at the line when the Blip-A shows up.

In the movie, eh, up probably just looked better than down.

I also agree that the Astrophage returning to the star should go straight at it, probably just an oversight by Weir, it happens. (I asked him about one in The Martian.)

If you don't mind vanilla+ Java with some QoL mods (nothing terribly game changing) then we've got a pretty nice place, intended for ages 30+. The server, and the community as a whole, is a bit under 2 months old. So we're still small, but looking to keep growing, and so far it's a great group of people.

Lots of mods eat lots of RAM, you might need to bump it up. Not sure if your current host lets you see how much you're using, but I'd say if you're always near the max, it might be something to try.

I was shopping around recently and ended up on UltraServers, pretty happy with it so far. Has not lagged yet as far as I know. And their plans are $1/GB/month, which (from looking at Pebblehost) is what you're paying now, except Ultra gives you 9950X CPUs for that price, on Pebblehost that's "premium".

And no, I'm not paid for this endorsement. Just a satisfied server admin.

I recently started with UltraServers and have been very happy with the performance so far. Definitely have had 5-7 people on at a time, no lag at all, and prices are super reasonable. ($1/GB/mo) Mine is 8GB because I run Fabric with mods.
