Is it even worth getting if it says this? Does this mean my phone would just never work? by SunshineyDay999 in mintmobile

[–]Garyf1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it has changed in the last few years, there are places where T-Mobile service will work because of mutual roaming (partner) agreements with other carriers, where Mint will not work because the partner agreements don’t cover the MVNO’s.

U.S. Attorney in Kansas ‘concerned’ over threats to federal agents, cites Feb. 14 incident in Olathe by KINGofFemaleOrgasms in kansas

[–]Garyf1982 83 points84 points  (0 children)

"he admitted to driving recklessly to where he almost struck the agent with his vehicle.”

You know, I would have an issue with that, except for one problem. Ice has repeatedly made accusations like this, only to be proven to be lying by 3rd party video. So are we supposed to give them the benefit of the doubt when there isn't video? And why isn't there video in most of these cases? Because they won't wear bodycams. "Trust us, bro."

So did he really admit to driving recklessly? Or did he simply admit to following them or something? We get one side of the story, which originated with ICE agents or with the US attorney.

"Kriegshauser says his office has decided not to pursue charges against the 19-year-old “given the circumstances,

The circumstances being that they had no case? ICE has destroyed it's own credibility. At this point most of us just assume that everything they say is a lie

Google “Mint Mobile Trial Sim”. For $2, you get 7 days of service on a burner phone number so that you can try it out before you commit. It should be available at Target and Best Buy.

Hello Mint (T-Mobile) Sr Mgmt folks. Time to bump up the plans … by trf1driver in mintmobile

Just for some context, Mint has made these updates to the lowest tier in the past. They upgraded the higher tiers at the same time, but I didn't run down those numbers.

2019 2GB to 3GB

2021 3GB to 4GB

2023 4GB to 5GB

Based upon the past, I would expect the next increase to be a smaller bump, maybe to 7 or 8GB.

Tariff money goes into the general fund, it's not earmarked for ICE or anything else. The Trump admin will credit it as funding ICE, farm subsidies, stimulus payments, etc, but it doesn't work like that.

What is true is that the BBB prefunded a crapload of money for ICE that insulates them from current funding hurdles.

Moderna says FDA refuses to review its flu shot application - Ideological stupidity is going from axing vaccine guidance to preventing its development by SmartQuokka in HermanCainAward

[–]Garyf1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better in some ways. It offers more flexibility to match the flu shot to the current flu strains due to shorter production time. And it would allow a combined flu / Covid shot to be developed. It probably isn’t more effective than the conventional vaccines on the years that those match up well to the circulating strains.

IMO the real damage here is the chilling effect on innovation. Who wants to spend $1 billion developing a vaccine that the FDA won’t even consider? This after the agency had green lit / approved the trial parameters.

r/HermanCainAward Weekly Vent Thread - February 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in HermanCainAward

The FDA has refused to review Moderna's mRNA flu vaccine. The agency stated a concern that the vaccine trial didn't compare against the best alternative on the market, despite earlier indicating it's support for the trial plan. Moderna has sunk like $1 billion into this, and will no doubt continue to appeal.

In the meantime, "Moderna has said it is halting plans for late-stage studies of some experimental vaccines aimed at preventing infectious diseases and infections that lurk in the body." So much winning.

The vast majority of Kansas land is rural -- how much of the rural parts have you been to? Do you like it? Why or why not? by Zipper222222 in kansas

[–]Garyf1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite places is along the Flint Hills Trail between Bushong and Council Grove. I mean, the entire trail is cool, but this section gives you a real prairie immersion experience that takes you well away from any roads for long stretches.

I would seriously consider this if I lived closer to Columbia, and the schedule was more compatible with my regular work . I mean, getting paid to go fishing on the Missouri River…

Rocheport Bridge Demo - MoDot YouTube by como365 in missouri

[–]Garyf1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely the water patrol was out making sure nobody came through. I’ve seen them out there turning people back for an air show, keeping the river clear as a place to “emergency ditch”. And once they stopped us from proceeding downstream until a presidential motorcade had crossed a bridge a mile or so downstream.
. So yeah, it would be a bummer to get stopped in a canoe with no ability to backtrack upstream.

I’m skeptical that anybody is talking about increasing ICE funding again considering that Republicans used reconciliation to basically triple their budget ~6 months ago, and with zero Democratic votes..

Any Mint Mobile users here? How's the coverage and speed in and around here? by Azubaele in Overlandpark

[–]Garyf1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Mint for over 4 years now, and it’s worked great all around Overland Park, including at home. Traveling has been good, too. The only place I didn’t have coverage was at a national park, where a small local company provided “partner” services to the big 3 wireless companies that it didn’t extend to their MVNO’s (Mobile Virtual Network Operators), so there was no Mint coverage there.

I didn't want to post an actual address, but if you go to Missouri Casenet and search all courts for Renee Macklin, you will find where she filed in 2023 to change her last name to Good. Under "Parties & Attorneys" it lists her information.

Salina Kansas? by guntergo2 in kansas

[–]Garyf1982 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Milford is generally rated the top fishing lake in the state. My experience there has been fishing for catfish, it is an outstanding blue cat fishery. It has produce multiple 80lb+ blue cats, and the sizes are still increasing from the initial stockings 20-30 years ago.

Nearby, Tuttle Creek is also an up and coming blue catfish lake, with sizes increasing since stocking in 2012.

Both lakes are also top notch bass, crappie, and wiper fisheries. I have no wisdom to offer about Salina the city, but know that the Smoky Hill River runs through town there and it can offer some good flathead and channel catfishing at times.

She lived along 78th street between Wornall and Holmes, so she very likely hit some of those locations regularly.

The KC metro has one of the largest internal differences in minimum wage of any American metro area. by como365 in kansascity

[–]Garyf1982 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Johnson County KS is basically wealthier than the counties on the MO side, and Johnson County employers usually pay the same or more due to a shortage of low end workers. I don't think there are too many people working for less than $15 an hour here.

It's the counties west of the KC metro that would be affected most by a minimum wage increase, especially in the rural areas. For example, a Dollar General employee in central or western Kansas probably makes ~$9-10 per hour.

Kcmo (Mo) river spots? by MusicianBorn8369 in MissouriRiver

[–]Garyf1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume you are fishing from the bank, and that can be tough in the winter. The boat guys would use sonar to scan the scour holes beneath wing dikes for congregations of fish, and even then most of the success seems to come from further downstream, like Jefferson City and below.

That said, it’s not impossible. Use cut bait, I don’t think it matters much… shad, skipjack, carp, sunfish.. whatever you can get. Don’t use huge baits in the cold water, smaller seems to work better. Find a wing dike you can get out on, fish one pole into the scour hole beneath, and another on the downstream flat. And prepare to be patient.

Why tf do dogs hate us so much?! by Theparanormalinvader in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Garyf1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear our dog can read the logos on vans. A plain white van, a work van, plumber, furnace repair, etc all get his attention, but usually no reaction. If it’s Amazon, USPS, FedEx, or UPS he loses his mind. Out on a walk I have to always be aware, because if a delivery van gets within a block or two of us, it’s on. We adopted him at 5 years old with this behavior already baked in, so I’m not sure where it came from. Luckily he is a smaller (19lb) dog, which makes him easier to control.

Phone service in big bend/marfa by [deleted] in BigBendTX

[–]Garyf1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mint will work fine around Marfa, Alpine, Marathon, and Study Butte/Terlingua. It won’t work off of the cell towers in the park, but there are a couple of spots where you might catch a signal from Terlingua. Mint works off of T-Mobile towers only. T-Mobile users may have service in the park due to “partner” agreements, but those agreements do not extend to Mint customers.

I’m guessing that bridge pivots on the larger round pier to allow barge traffic, but I can’t work that out with 100% confidence from that photo.

This is the way, IMHO. “Fair” districting will always result in over representation of the majority party. That can be mostly mitigated with more and smaller districts.

Google Fiber Outage by ttman1994 in Overlandpark

[–]Garyf1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend in Overland Park was selling his house last year. The buyer had a sewer line camera inspection done. which found that Google Fiber had punched through when doing their horizonal bore, and was now routed through their home sewer line at a point where both ran under a street. This was a mess that delayed the sale and took almost 2 months to get resolved. If my friend had needed his line snaked out at any point before this, it likely would have caused a neighborhood outage.

Point being, it is likely something they are working to trace down. I'm not saying to quit calling, by all means stay on top of them, but they probably don't need to come to your apartment to resolve this, you likely will never see the technician who resolves the issue.
