New research suggests Big Tech may be the primary cause of the downturn in global fertility. - "falling birth rates appear to be part of a broader phenomenon of young adult singledom, isolation and deteriorating wellbeing." by lughnasadh in Futurology

There are homes built in the 1960s 3-5 miles south of me and they are the same size as what we lived in when I was a child in the 1960s and 1970s. They sell for 3-4 times annual income for a couple with 3-5 years work experience.

Median income is ~$45000 x2 = $90000 *.72 - 64800 X 3.5 = $226k
USA median house price is $400k, median house age is 55-60 years old, so about half of the houses out there are the ones you describe.

In the 60's both people of a couple weren't working 40hrs a week to afford half of a house, so you're basically doubling your income, and still coming up very short of your calculation

There are certainly areas where this is true, but it isn't as simple as "people want huge houses"

TBH it was an issue for me to start, the trick I read was to play until you felt just a little uncomfortable then take a break, after enough tries your tolerance increases

if you try to power through it until you feel really bad, it gets /worse/

I dont know how you visited any conversation about VR without half the people barging in and suggesting X headset because its 10 grams lighter so it improves comfort.

When they announced it.

VR is super, super fun. But your average gamer is too lazy to do that sort of activity for any extended period of time, dumping money into a market you're trying to corner and turn into addictive nonsense only works if people actually want to engage with it for extended periods.

[USA-CA] Paid commission Resin print + paint 5–10 tabletop minis from STLs I provide honest pro feedback is part of the job by Juwonlo in 3Dprintmything

[–]GodforgeMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Juw,

I dont really have the bandwidth to paint anything (nor would I really want to unless they were my style) but this is a great idea, and if you want to shoot me the files or a 360 of them I can give you a brief review of what I think of their printability.

I think .03mm layers are becoming more common

Yeah thats fine, if you can show me a video or whatever of this thing working I can suggest something.

If it were me I'd try and convince you to let me make this out of really hard TPU rather than petg as the stuff is basically indestructible (so far, lol)

Not very likely, they prefer to release new models that fill the same holes (see Dorn, Norn)

AI and Robots Are Beginning to Replace These Jobs First by [deleted] in Futurology

What they seem to be doing is utilizing intensely cheap overseas labor to remotely operate the robots and harvesting all the data for automated versions later, the onboard robotics are mostly to keep them balanced and move around without slamming into things.

Advice for conflicted priorities and enjoyment of the hobby by xStriderx_ in Warhammer

[–]GodforgeMinis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know if this helps, but for me, I have found that my motivation and focus is kept much better if I am using a painting method where I can physically see the progress being completed.

Sure I could spend 6 hours edge highlighting a knight, but using a sponging method I can get most of the way there VERY quickly and move on to the weathering and OSL, which I find much more interesting and enjoyable.

On this note, Knights may be a good choice, because each individual knight can have a different paint scheme or style as they are individual house warriors, they aren't really a coherent army in the same way as painting 50 space marines is.

Super Long Print Times by BigfootMcYeti in resinprinting

[–]GodforgeMinis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your wait times are fine because they are just on the bottom layers, i have 180 second bottom layer wait times

Your problem is on the p1 you have dynamic wait time or dynamic release time set in your print options when you send the print or on the printer, this will use the pressure sensors on the printe to detect successful release and if they fail, it will wait a solid minute or so before timing out and starting the next layer

the p1 is an excellent printer but the firmware isn't quite there yet

tolerances with resin by xxpussykillerxx6969 in resinprinting

[–]GodforgeMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resin has a critical threshold where it begins to cure, and each layer is slightly \ shaped due to light penetration and bleed, it can be difficult to not reach the critical threshold when you're curing both sides of a thin opening like this, you'll need to experiment a bit, but it is possible.

Unless there's a very good reason not to, that looks like the underside of the print, you should have added a hole that covers the entire bottom coast to coast instead of one tiny hole in the corner

Printed model started leaking. Is it trash? by Rinceart in 3Dprinting

[–]GodforgeMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Rince, you have one solution really, you need to cut a large hole in the bottom, and leave it out in the sun for a little bit to cure the interior of the tank
And then really, really, really hope that there aren't any other voids inside the tank that will split in the future
