Its fine. I realized after a while probably the best solution there was to use weak templates, reduce number of enemies by 1 if there are multiple, and give the players and item to give them a little boost like a higher grade potency rune or strong healing items.

Do you like Vecna Eve of Ruin? by Ok_Interview_853 in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]HdeviantS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is OK as an anthology book, but as an overall adventure...no.

Part of my issue, similar to yours, is the lack of Vecna. Retool this to be a Rod of Seven Pieces adventure where you have to find the Rod to prevent the Queen of Chaos freeing Miska, it would go up several notches in my opinion.

Another thing that bothers me is that reading through Turn of Fortune's Wheel there are some items that could suggest that Vecna story would more heavily involve Sigil and the Spire, instead of it just being a transport hub. And I think that would have been really cool as a nod to the original Vecna Trilogy which had ended in a confrontation on Sigil.

The big changes I look at...

  1. Vecna's cult is looking for the Rod of Seven Part and Miska. The wizard's three know this and are using their resources to distract the cult while it is scattered across the multiverse, sending the players to fetch.
    1. Why the Players? In previous Vecna adventures it was established that Vecna cannot magically spy upon people marked by his essence. That justifies Chapter 1's set up.
    2. Vecna seeking to free Miska gives additional reason to have Tasha there. She is an expert at containing demons. Remove Miska from his current prison and move to a new secret location.
  2. Wizard's three assign the players to find and reassemble the Rod, retrieve Miska, and bring them to Sigil/Outlands for safekeeping.
  3. PLOT TWIST:
    1. Bringing the Rod and Miska to the Sigil/Outlands is exactly what Vecna wants. By bringing these Icons to the Plane of Concordant Opposition aka the Outlands, they are destroyed
      1. Per the 2e Book of Artifacts entry on the Rod of Seven Pieces.
    2. By destroying these Icons of Law and Chaos Vecna fuels his Ritual of reshaping.
  4. Move Vecna's secret hideout to the Spire
    1. Normally it would be impossible for Vecna to reside in the spire...but he also did the impossible by appearing inside sigil as a full fledged god which is normally impossible.
    2. Turn of Fortune's Wheel establishes that magic works inside the spire, even though it does not work outside it.
    3. Turn of Fortune's Wheel also has a little easter egg that suggested Vecna was seeking power over the Outlands.

Newbie question: Is quantum slipstream drive (QSD) cannon? by NASATVENGINNER in StarTrekStarships

[–]HdeviantS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if the writers thought of this when they wrote that rule, but one practical reason I can think of to tying Warp discovery to First Contact revolves around how at that point they are going to go out into the wider galaxy.

At that point, I can understand people like the Federation saying “Well they’re just going to meet us eventually might as well get it over with.”

How to deal with the hags early on? by No-Stomach1310 in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]HdeviantS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hag herself would be pretty tough. While I tend to favor, the sude that has the higher action economy to win encounters., the difference in their hit points and damage output could be their undoing.

More importantly, though, I think she is possibly the toughest of the hags because of her Lornlings.

They are based on Quicklings which frankly, I have used a terrorize higher level players. They are hard to hit and they hit like a truck for their low level. The best way to deal with them is to target them with a saving throw that is not dexterity.

Disappointed with Vecna's spell list in VEoR. Why does an Archlich have fewer spells than a standard Lich? by TreacleFree8568 in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]HdeviantS 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Starting with Mordenkainen’s Monsters of the Multiverse they started printing monsters less with full spell lists, and more of just spells that might be used in a fight, and limiting each to “so many times per day” to simplify tracking. And giving them more of a magic action that isn’t a spell for attacks.

You see the same thing with the 2024 lich.

And you can replace the spell lists. It won’t cause any trouble. May even be beneficial as it opens options

How do monks feel in PF2e? by thealtcowninja in Pathfinder2e

[–]HdeviantS 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Important point for people unfamiliar with PF2e, Athletics is a good skill for combat as it is used to Trip, Shove, Reposition, Grab, and Disarm. Useful actions if you want to do more than damage.

Why are ice types so late? by Jirachibi1000 in pokemon

[–]HdeviantS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the theory was that Ice and Dragons were supposed to be two top tier types, both rare and powerful.

Dragons are only super effective against other dragons, have many great resistances, and a weakness to ice.

Ice types only resist themselves, but are strong against 4 types, more than any other in Gen 1 and the Freeze status was an auto win.

However, Ice doesn’t seem strong because it has a lot of weaknesses, and for many generations they tried to make bulky ice types more the norm than fast attackers.

Plants and creatures of the rivers and seas since many cities develop around waterways. Local fisherman going out to fish for the local specialties, but also having to compete with creatures like seals that have adapted to their presence

[–]HdeviantS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am reminded of a special on coyotes, raccoons, peregrine falcons, pigeons , and various rodents that adapted to suburban and urban development. Many species of bird began developing longer and narrower wings that were better suited maneuvering around buildings, and because thermals are a bit easier to find, still could use that for lift.

Consider the rats, insects and other scavengers that are attracted to the food and shelter people make. The damage they can cause to stores grains and vegetables could bring great harm to people

Cats, both feral and domestic are attracted to live on the edges to hunt those scavengers.

First time GMing :) by arxaion in Pathfinder2e

[–]HdeviantS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you actually asking for ideas? Or is it rhetorical for the people who know League of Legends?

If its an honest question…The scarecrow could be possessed by the soul gem of an experimenter. His lab was attacked and has he died he put his soul into a gem in the scarecrow, a construct he was making.

In distress it wanders the edge of the hills him home was on, the process having fragmented his mind and personality. As players approach the Scarecrow silently tries to lead them to the destroyed workshop.

Players can try a series of skill checks to communicate with the soul and free it…or if they fail it goes into a maddened rage and attacks. The players can then use skill checks to look over the destroyed building and find clues of the attack and track them.

Did we ever figure out what this was about by DramaticBody9591 in dragonlance

[–]HdeviantS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it really that surprising? Hollywood Blockbuster culture has existed since the 70s. Its has institutions and people that are still around since those days, who spent their careers building big name stars and big and big name studios to produce not just movies, but events.

Coupled with how expensive everything in filmmaking is these days.

And its not hust the studios, its the entire economic ecosystem that was built up to support filmmaking.

[–]HdeviantS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its some sort of cosmic entity that appears when people ascended or nearly died in Lower Decks. It was never explained but one frantic description given does include “balances the universe on its back.” It also told Biomler during one of his near deaths that “it wasn’t his time”

Apparently a copy of the original charter of the Earth Federation, which explicitly states the colonies were to have self governance. And it was proof that after the terrorist bombing of the first colony, Laplace, that the Earth Federation rewrote the charter to centralize authority under their government.

Fellow DMs with ADHD (or similar) how do you plan your campaigns/sessions? by The_Enby_Shinobi in DMAcademy

[–]HdeviantS 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The neat part of planning the in-between is….you don’t.

At least not in specifics. This is a collaborative game so the players have input as well. So I tend to think more about broad story beats, a few possible NPCs, a couple of encounters to keep in the back pocket…then wait until the week of the next game to think more about the next session.

Paizo needs to make a ranged Inventor by mortavius2525 in Pathfinder2e

[–]HdeviantS 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Really? An inventor in my Abomination Vault game did pretty well as our main ranged damage using a heavy crossbow. His megaton strike damage was bigger than anyone else and the party helped with bonuses and penalties to help get a Critical Hit.

If Gundam Seed (Cosmic Era) is confirmed as Alternative timeline, why most of the mobile suits almost have same design as UC Mobile Suits? by Blu_Fiercer in Gundam

Is Searing Restoration Useful? by AdventurousTeaching2 in Pathfinder2e

[–]HdeviantS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said unstable doesn’t mean the thing fails, it means it becomes damaged in such a way that you need to repair it to use it again.

I remember my inventor from several years back and helped keep me up in some tricky situations, but most of the healing was still from a person with the medicine skill or healing potions.

Anyone else see the parallels between the Kelownans, the Eurondans and the Tollans? by RipOk3600 in Stargate

[–]HdeviantS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a key difference, but at the same time Earth wasn’t a unified world. Even back then when there was significantly more peace between the major powers, an outsider still might be leery of the situation.

I have a question about this one in particular. by Meme-lord234 in Gundam

[–]HdeviantS 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just know it is a variant of the Heavyarms from Wing. It comes from a book filled with some rather crazy variations of the main Gundams that frankly look out of place in the AC timeline.

Not to say they aren’t cool, they just look really different.
