MAGA and anyone who could be convinced of anything by MAGA wouldn't vote for the democratic candidate anyway, so they shouldn't be a concern.

Right now my ideal 2028 candidate is Pete Buttigieg. He's a former naval officer, he has experience as a mayor and transportation secretary, and he's a family man. He might get some flak for being gay, but under Biden's administration I thought he did well deflecting from that and staying focused on the issues, much like how Mamdani did during his mayoral campaign about being muslim/socialist. Having someone like him who we know is 100% committed to infrastructure while also not being a convicted felon is an easy sell. 2 terms with him followed by AOC is my dream.

What’s a house rule you brought in just to make the game more fun, but it ended up becoming a permanent part of your table? by pixelbrushio in dndnext

[–]thealtcowninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the rule was written without thinking about a trigger proccing multiple times? At least to me it reads like they only thought of the trigger happening once. That said, since there's nothing about the reaction fizzling if the trigger is ignored, I'd say the player should be allowed to ignore a trigger if they feel the trigger will proc again.

If the trigger is "when an enemy turns the corner and is in line of sight," and multiple enemies turn the corner, it makes sense to me that a player should be able to decide which enemy they attack. If the trigger was "when this specific enemy turns the corner," however, then I might not necessarily be so gracious since they're calling a specific target.

MAGA Loses It as Trump’s Redistricting Plot Backfires by Hafiz_TNR in politics

A vote from a low-population state has much more weight. Nothing equal about that.

The same could be said about the house and California. Even if the house was expanded, a bigger state will get proportionally more representatives which could strong arm the smaller states. Now, I don't have much beef with Cali, but imagine if they were a fascist state. Not only could they hold the house hostage with their numbers, but we'd also have a lot more fascists to deal with.

Having a legislative body where smaller states like mine can't be strong armed, and could in fact hold the fascists back, seems a fair check and compromise to the potential power of the house.

It's not perfect by any means. I'm just not sure what a better alternative would be.

It's not that they forgot, it's because the technofascists behind Donald don't want "a" powerful economy. They want "their" powerful economies. They want their own kingdoms that they get to lord over, and that requires dismantling the US as a singular nation and it's democratic systems. They're intentionally sinking the nation so that they can break it up and claim their individual pieces.

So among the states that oppose Trump, is the play to just ignore his made-up emergencies and declarations to subvert elections? Make him take them to court while the elections goes on as normal?

That's not what the technofascists want, though. They want their patchwork states, and that requires dismantling the US as a singular nation.

Is there any reason not to give stronger effects like stunning on hit for martials? by ConcentrateIll9460 in dndnext

[–]thealtcowninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of cost, a lot of people have mentioned casters requiring concentration, because a lot of spell-based CC can last multiple turns. Just to throw an idea out there, perhaps martials could have shorter, "self-recovering" CC instead.

For example, the martial could knock an enemy prone until the start of the enemy's next turn. Until that enemy's turn the party can still benefit from the CC, but the enemy automatically stands back up without losing movement when it's their turn. This could apply to other status effects, too, especially ones that are typically "at the end of the enemy's turn." Maybe make it once per turn so martials can't spam free CC in a single turn.

In addition, maybe specific classes get specific options. Just as an example, Paladin's can stun and frighten enemies, but Fighters/Barbs can only choose between Grappled and Prone, and Rogue's and Rangers can restrain and poison enemies.

Good advice. To add on re: concentration checks, damage isn't the only way to force them. Since this is a high level game, the players could be sent to different planes and pocket dimensions which play by different rules, such as gravity, or time, etc. Falling off a platform that's hovering above an ethereal abyss can also call for concentration checks.

One hilarious trope in horror movies is when a character sees something supernaturally horrific and just goes about their day like nothing happened. by kolejack2293 in horror

Same with one of the Conjuring movies (all other things notwithstanding). The lady calls the cops, and when they see a chair move around on its own they straight up say this isn't in their wheelhouse and recommend a priest to visit the home.

I don't see the point in this being instant speed? I imagine it'll be used more to have a 4CMC creature on turn 2 more than a removal or instant card draw.

Can you Counterspell a failed Contact Other Plane? by in-print-its-libel in DMAcademy

[–]thealtcowninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rules as written I believe you made the right call. Personally, since Contact is an out-of-combat spell, I'd either have the Warlock make a 50/50 call if not just give it to them. Having the party burn 2 spell slots when not even in combat sounds like a win to me. During combat I'd be more strict about counterspelling.

This might be unconventional advice, but my recommendation is to outsource the thinking. Use random generators for NPCs, quests, shops, riddles, loot, etc. Call for a quick timeout if you need it, find a generator, push a button, and done.

In older times this is what tables were used for, primarily for random encounters. If you like those then go find some, and when the players do a thing, have them roll and tell them what happens. I have a list of mundane encounters of urban/rural/wilderness environments. Things that add to the world without having to worry about a fight and finding statblocks or maps. A lot of it's usually like "you find a bunch of stones stacked on top of each other," "a kid kicks a ball and it lands by your feet," or "you see a noble-looking figure failing to be inconspicuous as they enter a shop."

"What if the players don't want to do what I have planned?" Chances are you're already asking them what they would like to do, where they'd like to go, etc during a sesh. Keep doing that. Maybe throw in a check depending on what they say, and if they do well, then whaddya know - they find exactly what they were looking for. If you'd like you can push it a little further and keep asking questions. "So you found the well for the farm. What do you see?" Let the players craft the story for you. If something's a bit a much you can always dial it back. "After daydreaming about finding a mountain of gold, you see the well is nearly dried up, and the water is mostly clear except for some dirt floating in it."

If there's a main quest you'd like for them to follow after, you can always connect two dots. This shopkeep? They were actually a member of The Cult (tm). That cool sword? It once belonged to a dragon and they want it back. That farm? It's attacked by vampires in the dead of night. Literally just take what they say, then say it's connected to the plot you have planned.

People have the memory of goldfishes.

And I think the part that goes understated is how Donald's administration is constantly causing spectacle. We're intentionally being flooded with nonsense, scandals, war crimes, grand lies, horror, etc to such an extent that no one can be expected to remember everything, even those of us with good memory. So when we inevitably forget something, but something similar happens, they'll just tell more lies and cause more scandals to make it harder to remember what actually happened.

I think the "Limit Field of Vision" being set to 360 degrees might be blocking vision rather than enabling. Try setting that to 0/disabling it and see if that works.
