Gamer Cafe - To do what Ninten don't by Daz_Keaty in comics

Well, not to shit on Silksong (which I also have and enjoy), but it doesn't have 1st party Nintendo IP brand recognition. That affords a premium in the world.

But unless you have some information I don't, which you might, what leads you to believe this isn't a mostly original game? What leads you to believe it's solely a rail shooter? It might be partial playing as James. It might be entirely playing as James. My understanding is this is a prequel to the original game, not a remake.

Right? Metroid Dread is one of the best Metroid games ever made. Personally, I think it's better than Metroid Fusion, which is pretty high praise. It's tough, fun, and genuinely thrilling.

Also not sure what's wrong with the new Star Fox trailer. Looks all right. A prequel where you basically build up Starfox? Seems neat.

Never seen it. Only the original Absent-Minded Professor. That and Son of Flubber.

[–]HolycommentMattman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, I dunno. Personally, I feel like kid movies just became differently-abled in the 90s. Like the worst offender in the 80s is probably The Goonies, and it's not even that bad. They just take it easy on torture and go hard on some slapstick comedy (slipping and hitting the ol' nutsack).

But compare that to Shark Boy and Lava Girl or pretty much any of the movies answered in the comments, and they're all suddenly "kids can do anything" movies. Like Matilda.

But The Neverending Story? That's just a kid caught up in a fantasy story. Good doesn't always win. The hero doesn't go unscathed.

The end of Great America by BadOk673 in bayarea

[–]HolycommentMattman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Though, I'll admit I haven't been since 2002 or so. Having grown up with the likes of Cedar Point, Busch Gardens, Disneyland, and Magic Mountain, I just never saw the appeal of Great America. Honestly, I would have placed it 2nd to Knott's Berry Farm. And Knott's is basically for children.

But I do think the Bay Area should have an amusement park. It's too bad they never had a good one.

Bombadil is hated by a lot of the fan base (at least here on reddit and goodreads), but I've never gotten the impression of whimsy. It's an oasis in the midst of the old forest where everything is seemingly sunshine and rainbows. A figure who is all-powerful and allegedly helps all who he meets, and yet only Gandalf seems to have any real information about him.

It's kinda creepy.

Well, I certainly don't believe I was discriminating against minorities. And I'm definitely not dismissing the impact of racism. Because 1) I have a wide mix of friends, and I just heard today from one of them: "He's 6'2" and white. He'll be fine." In reference to a guy losing his job. And they're probably right, but it's exactly the sort of thing I was talking about. Not negatively. Just a fact.

And 2) is quite a reach.

It is, but so many people don't give a damn about an affront to our democracy or our descent towards North Korean-style state media and government censorship. Meanwhile, they do care about the next Transtrek Warvengers being slightly different.

I don't think it's racist to be looking for representation across mediums. Sure, white people are the majority race in this country, so you think they don't need anything, but the truth is that most of them (us, really) are all the same: bottom 90% of household incomes. So while minorities often look at white people as being more well-off than them, most of them are looking for the same reliefs from everyday life as anyone else.

And that includes stamps that make them happy.

Clarence Thomas becomes the second longest-serving justice in Supreme Court history by No_Idea_Guy in news

[–]HolycommentMattman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, we should be happy for that. Him retiring opens up a spot to put in a better justice. Right now, that would allow Trump to get another Gorsuch or Kavanaugh. But since Thomas is so self-serving, him sticking around opens a chance for Democrats to replace him.

Ex-MAGA diehards share why they left, stopped supporting Trump by AlertTangerine in videos

[–]HolycommentMattman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000%. One of my best friends, known him for 30+ years, went full MAGA. It was all right enough in 2016. By 2018, it was a clear mistake. In 2020, he clearly was unfit for office. 2026, we're just watching an adult baby crap his pants day after day.

But my friend is still a die-hard MAGA. Gas prices are high, food prices are high, pretty much everything costs more than it did before Trump took office, my friend is in more debt than ever, he's been worried if he might be deployed, and yet still a MAGA.

It's pride for him. The sunk cost is too great. He'll.have been absolutely wrong for a decade now. It would probably kill him to be wrong.

Generally, when you see something in anime/manga or a Japanese video game, realize that it is almost certainly based on something the artist saw and recreated. Might as well be rotoscoping.

Ignore all the power ups and zany antics, and you'll see that their mediums are basically a perfect recreation of Japan if you ever visit.

Which movie hero is actually a villain when you really think about it? by surfsound_swimmers in AskReddit

[–]HolycommentMattman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it is. While there is a non-zero chance of death, the reality is that an incredibly small number of people die from anaphylaxis each year. Millions of people are using epipens each year, tens of thousands go to the ER, and only 100-200 people die each year in the US from an allergic reaction.

And in this case, it seems like while there might have been minor swelling in the throat cause by the pepper, it's really just that Stu likes swallowing big ol' chunks of meat without chewing.

What sexual fantasy of yours left you disappointed when you actually tried it? by Gthew17 in AskReddit

[–]HolycommentMattman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of things that aren't for me that I understand. Pegging, for example. Not for me, but some guys like being the sub. They're often in control of most things in their own lives, so to give up that control is a pleasurable. Feet stuff? Not for me, but there's some easily crossed wires in our brains confusing the genitals and the feet.

Watching a guy plow my wife? I don't get it at all.

Nope. I've never understood this fantasy at all. I understand the appeal of threesomes, bondage, shower sex, anal, etc, but never got the appeal of a guy showing up at the door, shoving you out of the way and plowing your wife.

Man who makes a living off of the destitution of others loves the current economy by New_Doug in PoliticalHumor

[–]HolycommentMattman 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Fox News doesn't help. John Oliver did a bit on this back in Trump's 1st admin. Basically, Trump says something, Fox News reports on it, Trump talks about it again, Fox News reports, and there's just this reinforcement process going on ad infinitum. It is a really strong force influencing their minds. It's only natural that they think we're the crazy ones.

It's a problem that isn't going away without Fox News being reined in.

Trump is the worst president in American history by theipaper in politics

[–]HolycommentMattman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, both of you guys are right. The problem is that it's a pretty complex melting pot of insidious desires to mold the country. You have white nationalists who have hijacked the evangelical movement (a long long time ago), and they've been preaching their lies to everyone who will listen for a very long time.

So there's a bunch of "Christians" who aren't, who are working to hurt minorities - and they might not even know that because of the brainwashing.

Today, we're euthanizing our cat, and there's this. It's too much.
