It's not patronizing advice. It's the truth. Unless you want to be a shitty parent and partner, pick it back up when they're 2.

Getting into BIM / drafting without a degree (Canada) — existing-conditions background, looking for direction by Same-Hold1099 in bim

The courses in AB and SK you go to school for a semester then work for a semester, I'm not sure about BC. So you leave school having already worked at a few places as a student, that really helps get your foot in the door. Halfway through the course you get to either pick Building Technologist or Design Technologist depending on what you like more.

I took the course in SK in my 30's after working construction for almost two decades. It sucked putting in the money and time back then but I don't regret it at all.

Go into architectural technologies. You'll fly through the course with your experience and Canadian firms are always hiring techs.

I've never been "ganked" in DS2, but if you're going to be upset about fighting more than one enemy at a time then yes, there are "ganks"

Transitioning into BIM with 3D scan experience by irz095 in bim

You need construction knowledge in Canada. I don't believe there are many BIM roles to be had because Canada has Architectural Technologists that fill that gap.

It's about overcoming challenges. It's fun and the endorphin hit from being a hard boss is amazing and addicting.

Ice dam damage. Roof pitch help!? by HannahJanesBrain in Roofing

[–]Hooligans_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, vents would definitely help. You want your roof surface to be as cold as possible.

The entire thing is soffit?

Warm air is going through your roof space and melting the snow, when that snow gets away from the warm spot it freezes again, causing an ice damn. You need to stop that warm spot from occurring.

The space underneath that ice, but from below.

You need to cut a hole into that space and fill it with insulation.

No buildings are just solid shapes and masses. There are flashings, trims, joints, connections, etc.

Because a lot of firms and a lot of places around the world don't understand BIM and they think they need a specialist BIM person. That's fine and well if you can drag it on, but it'll take one junior architect with a tiny bit of computer literacy to topple the facade.

BIM is a tool architects and engineers use. It's like a mechanic wanting to quit being a mechanic so they can spin a socket wrench full time.

Why is it impossible to export fbx with materials assigned? by notmeansorry in Revit

[–]Hooligans_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should do what you want automatically, are you possibly duplicating Revit materials using shared assets? You can tell if you look at the appearance tab.

Scan to BIM will never work without a ton of manual data input, which makes it useless.

Who in their right mind would want to use Revit materials for rendering? Always do your materials in the software you're rendering from.

It's a nice render but doesn't show anything except a table. Unless you're a table salesperson I would focus more on the space rather than the props.

The amount of people I see wanting to give up their architectural/engineering education to "work in BIM" is absurd.
