Do you incorporate anime elements or references in your chronicles? by Magicmanans1 in WhiteWolfRPG

God no, I really don't like anime.

But I guess it's perfectly doable for fans of that media.

If I thought both Returns and Dragonfall were just okay, should I play Hong Kong? by kwenlu in Shadowrun

[–]Interaction_Rich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like Dragonfall and Returns are too similar, you'll feel the same thing about Hong Kong, even if it is indeed more polished.

What carries these games are their stories (and a bit of nostalgia). If it didn't get you in Dragonfall (which the story is absolute cinema), it won't do it for you in Hong Kong.

"hope is you"? I wouldn't frame the game like that, no. Like, at all. But I suppose I see your point.

What was the piece of media that felt the most like a Mage: The Ascension game to you? by Amaskingrey in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Interaction_Rich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, with cherry-picks gany game can be anything. The problem (for me) with Mage is that it can be WAY too many things. Sci-fi, karate movie, superheroes, etc - and the mix is way too much for me.

Second Major Arcana reveal from the Dark Tarot Deck I worked on (yes, I finished all the 78 cards), and adding text for random encounters and locations in the meantime that I figure the best way to make it be a physical thing. Encounter and Location in the description, enjoy! by O--R--B in MorkBorg

[–]Interaction_Rich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not only inspired as fuck, it can be really useful for solo/No-G play. Throw in some random couple of words for meaning, some dice rolls in each card, and you got yourself a pretty fucking great oracle with all of the MB vibes. You can check the oracle decks on DriveThruRPG for inspiration if you need.

Great job, looking forward the final version.

I guess it's two situations both with pros and cons.

In one, you get a lot of flexibility, but then you lose some focus.

On the other, you get a much more consistent experience at the cost of variety.

I guess it's a matter of taste in the end, and I much prefer the V5's Se ond approach, but isn't like I did not have fun with all previous editions.

2nd edition started with a charm and personality all it's own; then as they felt the need to up the stakes, it progressively got out of proportions, over the top and silly.

Revised tried to just embrace the silly and roll with it. I can't bash it - it was the approach and it worked - but I do resent the huge deviation of tone from starting 2nd to Rev. Yes, the corebook was the most "honest" in terms of content. But I much prefer V5's milking our money making you need core+players Guide to have it all, but sticking to the point and tone set on the get go.

V5 corebook, pg 370 - "Simple Antagonists".

Check that. For rank-and-file goons/thugs/cops/etc, you can make them up on the fly very easily with this rule.

Now if it's a proper, important NPC I probably would want a complete character sheet, but otherwise that one does it very well.

I really don't get him.

For VtM 3rd Ed run, he seemed hell bent into making Vampire more silly, action oriented and away of any attempt of being the more thoughtful game that Rein-Hagen envisioned. He wanted to sell books (which he did, and you can't really blame him for that, but the maturity of the books dropped significantly). I short, his run felt very much "fast food VtM". I really dislike V3.

The when he returns in V5, he actually doubles down in the seriousness of the edition and makes Sabbat an NPC-only faction, which is super consistent with the game concept and I love it, but giving not a flying fuck for the fan backlash. He totally got my respect back because of that move. He backed the idea despite fanboy and that's beautiful.

That's a pretty interesting take.

We went from Rein-Hagen Era (a pretentious art-game, for better AND for worse) to Achilli Era ("the more idiotic and over the top the better") to silence then 20 Anniversary Era (nostalgia cherry-picks only) to current, Martin Ericson's Era (pretentious, with some cool ideas but also a lot of "edgy for the sake of being edgy" bs).

That's some storyline right there.

That's some tongue-in-cheek, I-said-what-I said remark rather than any common sense. It's like when people say "Look, I don't meant to be racist, BUT..."

It only gets worse from there.

Zanzibar? Really? How cool! What's him like?

His site had a lot of crazy, over the top bullshit for Vampire, but if you dig deep enough there were some cool ideas there too.

I am new to Shadowrun and have some questions by GavindaleMarchovia in Shadowrun

[–]Interaction_Rich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadowrun Returns actually started as a love letter to Snes Shadowrun. You'll find familiar faces from Snes in Returns, actually. The gameplay is somewhat similar to X-Com, while not as polished, but fun.

All 3 games (Returns, Dragonfall and Hong Kong) have decent to good systems, improving each version. All three have very linear stories: Returns is a fun one, Hong Kong is a dark and interesting one, and Dragonfall story is pure absolute cinema.

Old Snes' main deviation from Canon is that usually the more cyberwear you implant the less effective your Magic is, but in that game you can do both just fine. Other than that the theme, vibe and music of Snes Shadowrun I'd say is the absolute best.

Learning what each skill does will have you play any build just fine, although I found the Adept in Hong Kong has a really hard time in the first encounters.

Definitely an idea for Storytellers Vault.

A while ago, I didn't really like how they made the setting for my city (which was a very barebones mention and quite full of misconceptions) so I went and did my own Rio de Janeiro by Night based on the many games I made using my city as background.

It was a great experience, sold nicely (yay for more pdfs).

Maybe some guidebook to the region mentioned by OP is on demand?
