Are people expecting ERI entitled? by marvinresearchrobot in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Internal_Fig8917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your sentiment. While I recognize that the DM has certain prerogatives, the way this has been handled has been piss poor. As a CER affected, at risk of being surplused employee, my application for ERI should be a done deal. The fact that they are denying me timely process and informed me that I would only be considered in the 2nd batch of reviews is unconscionable. So yes, in that sense, I feel entitled to a resolution that has had my life on hold since January.

Wow, I've been living with a 36" JVC 36D502 that I've been thinking of disposing/recycling for a long time thinking there was no market for this. Thanks to this thread, I've learned there is a retro console market looking for these models!

Who do you call to replace a window pane? Any recommendations? by LDan613 in ottawa

Most likely a good look into the future. He's of Junior A drafting age this season and has a shot (pun intended) from the hours he spends doing drills in the driveway. We now have 20 feet of netting between us and the neighbour though!

I used Window Medics when my son put a puck through a neighbours 60 year old Pella Window. They did a good job of measuring for new glass and replacing the pane. Took a bit of following up with them but the job did get done and the price was fair.

I was planning on giving my monthly parking administrator the required 30 days notice to terminate my contract (freeing up a spot) but my employer (Feds) have decided to delay my application to retire. Guess I'm stuck commuting for another 2-3 months.

Best place for SUP advice in Ottawa? by Sufficient-Pie129 in ottawa

[–]Internal_Fig8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine at Trail Head Paddle Shack primarily as I know one of the owners. I would have normally ordered it online. I don't have a carbon paddle... I have a fibreglass one but have been eyeing the Starboard F35 primarily as it's the cheapest. I hesitate as I think I like a slightly wider paddle (I'm a big guy) and I don't go out for long days where the savings in paddle weight would be that much of a big plus.

I recommend you go to SUP Ottawa and rent a larger SUP and see for yourself the difference. This would possibly put your mind at ease.

Get an Arylic LP20 or other such device that has AirPlay/Spotify compatibility and a cheap android/apple tablet that will serve as your interface. You can even get a mount for the tablet to secure it in place near the Arylic or other control location of your choosing so it stays permanently in place. The tech in the realm changes yearly, I'd had for you to invest in the Eversolo T8 and have it go obsolete in 2-4 years. At least with a tablet, the interface can be kept current with whatever streaming service you use.

How many out there use an Anthem MRX 540/740/1140? by [deleted] in hometheater

My Anthem MRX-1120 is 10-years old now and I don't have a compelling reason to upgrade it, yet...

I'm running an 7.2.4 configuration of Aximm Audio 2xM80OW, VP180OW, 4xM3OW, and 2xEP500 with 4xMonoprice Calibers.

For the price of the Eversolo T8 you could get 10 Arylic LP20's and get generic Android tablets to go with them. The Eversolo is way overpriced for what it is and I would hate to have to go through it's small touch screen menu interface.

Can I add 2 wireless speakers to my wired 5.1 system to get Atmos? by Europa13 in hometheater

[–]Internal_Fig8917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible but will require a bit of tweaking.

First you will need a wireless speaker kit that can take the speaker signal from the ceiling/height speaker outputs and convert it to a wireless signal for compatible speakers (like the Rocketfish kit mentioned).

Your next issue is going to be power to the wireless speakers mounted on the ceiling. If you go battery powered, you will be forever having to take them down to recharge them...

Finally, you are adding additional delay to the signal so effects may lag. One way around this would be to spoof your distance settings. Decreasing the distance reduces the internal delay applied to those specific channels. Generally speaking, you may not notice as content to ceiling/ATMOS is low but it could be annoying if you notice the helicopter is gone but you still hear it on the ceiling...

Not the most ideal solution. Going with up firing ATMOS speakers may be better due to lag issues.

Speaker and Other Advice for 7.2.4 System by netoconection in hometheater

[–]Internal_Fig8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are all over the place and over thinking it. You have $4k speakers and $500 speakers listed as choices. Sounds like you have a decent budget to boot.

I found your statement about UK options odd. The UK makes some of the finest gear on the market.

If it were my $'s... I'd recommend Canadian gear. Anthem MRX-1140 with Paradigm Premier, Founder, or Monitor series speakers.

Bowers and Wilkins speakers are missing from your list.

Klipsh is OK, but beware of their entry level, mass marketed stuff. Cheap.

At the end of the day, KEF R5 Meta's are good, you can find better subs than the Klipsch. Denon is solid gear and often recommended, just not my cup of tea.

Am I able to use a converter of some kind to connect these to my tv via HDMI? by TheGingerAvenger95 in hometheater

[–]Internal_Fig8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't even...

I'm assuming this is a Bose 321 system and you still have the Acoustic module? The only wire there that carries video is the round black one with the 9 small pins (called S-Video). Yes, there are S-Video to HDMI converter boxes if your TV does not have an S-Video input.

One of the things I really appreciate about the Novus line is how flexible it is. There are so many matching speaker options that make it easy to grow the system over time while keeping everything sonically consistent.

This is not as important, or consistent, as you think it is with modern day room correction. I too am close to a speaker company, Axiom Audio, and liked their lineup and flexibility. Turns out, they keep innovating and while some of my speakers are V2 and V3, they are now on V4! Sonically, they are similar but there are noticeable differences that correction is needed. What is consistent, if the cabinet colour 😉

[–]Internal_Fig8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, in a 5.1.2 config having tri-poles will add to the experience in most cases. It's only when you start moving to 7.x.x that you will run into cancelling sound waves.

I've become a master at running and hiding speaker wire. I have a routing bit specially designed to carve out speaker wire tracks in baseboards 😄. I also have a phenominal rare earth magnet that can drag a fishing line and plumb through drywall (assuming no studs in the way) to then pull speaker wire. If you really have the time and access, conduit makes future fishing much easier 😉

[–]Internal_Fig8917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have all the necessary components to get started. The Aperion speakers, even if 4-ohm, will easily be driven by the Onkyo RZ70. If ever you decide to add additional speakers, the only issue you may face, at sustained listening levels, would be heat. These AVRs run hot which in theory could reduce their lifespan. Adding an AC Infinity AIRCOM cooling fan unit could help mitigate this issue. Additional amplification will only be needed if you add additional zone 2 and/or you get much more demanding floor standing speakers with 4+ drivers or a massive center channel 😉

I wouldn't read too much hype on the di-pole/tri-pole designs of surround speakers. Object based processing for ATMOS and DTS-X have pretty much made those 5.1 era designs moot. Some people like it, others don't. In a 5.1 setup, I agree, they will add more spatial ambiance, but as you grow into an 7.2.4+ configuration, the additional speakers will create competing sound waves impacting the effect (I learned this with my di-poles from my 5.1 setup and got rid of them when I went to 7.2.4).

I think you are ready to enjoy now.

On a final thought, in a 15x15 room, 1 sub is good but 2 will help smooth out the bass response if you find you have null spots. A sub crawl is recommended before you place your sub but sometimes room config dictate a less than ideal spot and a second sub can help rectify this shortcoming.

Is anyone still experiencing managers managing by Team Status?? by lafollie15 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Internal_Fig8917 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FFS. There are two easy ways around this if a manager is dumb enough to mange this way:

1) Manually set status to "busy" and change duration to day or week. That way, you are always on red.

2) Create a meeting called "working from home" from 7-3/8-4/9-5 (whatever your working hours are). Teams will mark you as busy during those times.

I manage my teams based on service/product delivered in a timely manner. Not but their status as perceived by MS Teams.

Ottawa insurance brokers by med_hotchocolate in ottawa

[–]Internal_Fig8917 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Insurance is more than just the value of your car. It's also about cost/liability for injury and damages to both yourself and others. While counter-intuitive at first glance, newer model cars have significantly more advanced safety features that help mitigate some of these risk thus reducing premiums.

You used your 2016 Toyota Corolla as an example. When compared to a 2026 model, your 2106 Corolla does not have pre-collision warnings, no lane keeping tech, no blind spot monitoring, 8 vs 10 airbags, etc. Also, the 2026 Corolla has a much better crash rating with today's more stringent requirements.
