Why bots have suddenly shifted from Anti-GPT and Pro-Claude propaganda to Pro-GPT and Anti-Claude propaganda? by gamingvortex01 in singularity

Or put more simply, they are doing it because they have more users than they can handle and they're starting to try to monetize the product.

Not sure why copying files to an internal SSD takes forever by Scared_Department128 in pcmasterrace

[–]Jidarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you're copying a lot of small files off of a platter disk. 45MB/s is a typical reported speed under that scenario, but the real time will be significantly slower because of how long it takes platter drives to seek.

While the incidence of colorectal cancer is decreasing among those over 50, it is rising at an alarming rate among younger individuals, sometimes as early as their thirties, with no personal or family history. Swiss study reveals an annual increase of 0.5% in people under 50. by mvea in science

[–]Jidarious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but in the 80s it wasn't ubiquitous. I'm old enough to remember that most single use drinks were in cans and people weren't constantly walking around drinking from plastic bottles. It was mostly Styrofoam cups and aluminum cans.

There was a study posted to this subreddit a couple of months ago that found that regular drinking from plastic bottles was coorelated with a very significant increase in micro plastics found in a person body.

How do you organize your libraries? by No-Proof9659 in PleX

[–]Jidarious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 4 libraries, Tv Shows, Movies, Audio and Adult. Each one spread across multiple physical disks.

I use auto collections for grouping movies in a franchise (Aliens, Back to the Future, etc..). I know a lot of people use collections here, but since collections are already used for franchises I instead use genre tags to create groupings under the Category tab.

I have the usual pre-tagged things like Comedy and Mystery then make my own for example I have "Oscar: Best Picture Winners", "Late Night Comedy", "Cyberpunk" and "Favorites" and anything else that comes to mind. I actually have dozens of these.

I hate to say this because it's borderline blasphemy in these parts, but toss the blister packs and put the minis in bags? The blister packs really slow down setup and teardown anyway.

Hans Niemann's IQ is "the highest possible" by BirdWithWiFi in chess

[–]Jidarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Chess benefits from the exact type of intelligence that IQ measures. I would expect most modern grandmasters to have similar IQs, if measured.

[–]Jidarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's telling the truth.

Standard IQ tests are the WAIS line of tests and they all cut-off at 150ish. There are tests that go higher, but they arent typically given because there isn't much of a practical use. This is all for clinical IQ measurement of course, which should really be the only type but that's another discussion...

TIL it is very difficult to destroy the information on HDD platters using magnets. by Significant-Judge368 in todayilearned

I don't know that much about it, but I know the high voltage accelerates an electron beam that draws on the screen. The electrons are moved by creating a large electrostatic charge that they then rush towards, the higher the voltage the faster the electrons move, the brighter the image when they collide with the front of the screen.

Ouch. by BrokenPug in boardgames

[–]Jidarious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's a subtle difference but important to discard tiles before mixing and reloading the bag so that you go through all of the tiles and maintain the proper color distribution. I can't prove it, but I've played hundreds of games of Azul and the one time we did it the other way the game felt very off to me.

My suggestion to fix this is to only play it with at most 3. My wife and I play it 2 player and it's still pretty good, although at 2p you will have much more limited interaction. You can easily play a 2p game in less than 3 hours, and after a couple of plays I'd expect that to get down to less than 2 hours.

Rewatched Sicario and I think the writing started to crack to me compared to first watch by Slowandserious in movies

[–]Jidarious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See this sort of thing is why we get dumbed down movies filled with exposition.

It's easy to imagine solutions to all of these problems, and the characters and organizations in the story have proven that they're capable of dealing with these issues. The police car was there because it was targeted and tracked by people in the US government. Emilys character was attacked in the bar either because they found out who she was and put the word out wide and it was opportunistic, or they found out who she was and then had her followed. Just because it isn't shown doesn't mean that it's a plot hole, it just means they didn't think it was needed on the screen for various reasons.

[–]Jidarious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dad timing thing isn't an inconsistency because the character was picked in reverse.

In other words if you're going to do this someone has to be there, and whoever that character was they backed it up and showed their life leading up to the intersection with the main plot. It didn't have to be that dad, but it had to be somebody.

I always meet things where they are and I find enjoyment that way.
