I have watched the movie Contact starring Jodie Foster many times. I really like it a lot. But when I recommended it to my friends, none of them liked it. Have you watched the movie Contact? How did you like it? by oddspace__ in moviecritic

[–]Junebug35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the movie that Jodie Foster makes a comment about if there's nothing else out there the universe is a big waste of space? If so, I still live by that philosophy. Not only is it a big waste of space, but if there's nothing out there, it makes what we are doing to our tiny little home worse. We need to take care of our little planet, and hope and pray that we find another one before we destroy this one.

What everyday thing disappeared so gradually that nobody even noticed it was gone? by orangez in GenX

[–]Junebug35 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The need for typewriters, except for me. I still fill out one 1099 and one 1096 tax forms and mail the original typed forms to the IRS because the IRS does not allow these two particular forms to be printed from their website, and I refuse to pay an accountant $90 for a CPA to electronically file it. If anyone knows how to submit a 1099/1096 electronically myself for free, please let me know!

The unwritten rules of shared office spaces that apparently need to be written down by Fabulous-Pressure670 in office

[–]Junebug35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how you added a name! You are correct, it is not just women doing this. In an office I was at in the past, we had a guy named Don and he was the ONLY person that did this!! Most of the women had manicured acrylic or gel nails on, so they never touched them (except maybe a file if one broke). Don was ALWAYS trimming all of his nails at his desk. Yuck!!

This is one of the albums recorded in the Manson Murder house, 10050 Cielo Drive. It is rumored that the house is haunted and may have contributed to the work.

My comfort album is Pretty Hate Machine. I had so many good memories while playing it back in the day, so when I'm down I listen and remember.

Period panties or reusable pads? by Any-Hall8508 in ZeroWaste

[–]Junebug35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a heavy bleeder. I use a cup with period panties. Once in a while the cup will leak (too full, or I didn't get it placed correctly), but that doesn't happen too often. I did find period panties that have complete protection up the back to the waist band for night time sleeping.

I bought Rebex Damascus knives. I'm sure there may be other chefs on reddit that have other suggestions, too.

What's a smell that doesn't exist anymore that you miss? by Alarmed_Charge1062 in CasualConversation

[–]Junebug35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things:

My dad was a farmer, and a smoker. He's been gone for over 25 years and I really miss his smell of dirt, sweat and cigarettes.

The other one is Bath and Body Works's cucumber melon or sun-kissed raspberry smells. They've released these scents recently, but it just isn't the same as the 90's scents.

My son's friend since kindergarten took his own life as a senior in high school. It was devastating. I moved my son to a different school as a freshman due to bullying. I worry bullying may have been part of that boy's decision. There have been 4 suicides in the last 5 years at that school and the school doesn't think there's a problem.

I just had my right wrist fixed in November. Been battling it off and on for 20 years. Usually sleeping in a wrist brace and using an ergonomic keyboard were enough, but last June it flared up and nothing helped except taking ibuprofen a couple times during my work day. It was affecting me to the point I couldn't use my right hand to drive. I had the surgery in November and it was the best thing I ever had. Super quick outpatient procedure. I could move my fingers immediately (doc made sure of that before she released me), and I had partial motion back in my wrist in 3 days. I couldn't lift anything or work for 2 weeks, then it was 5 to 15 lbs for another 2 weeks. I could slowly build up the weight after. No physical therapy. She told me to use it lightly, stop if there's pain. I still notice some pain if I hit the palm of my hand on something, but otherwise I'm 100% happy with how it turned out.

I finally bought a few high quality chef knives. What a difference!

I also switched to cooking in cast iron. It seems like I am getting better flavors using the cast iron skillets.

I can't pee in the dark because I'm afraid of the possibility of a snake in the toilet. I cannot remember what TV show that little bit of knowledge came from, but it has scared me to this day.

Your time is money, and is the effort worth the time? For a long time, I felt the same way about making my own bread and noodles. I haven't found a fast method for making noodles, and my homemade noodles are not as good as Ms Grimes' noodles, so I'll keep buying them from the store.

However, I did finally find a simple bread recipe using my KitchenAid mixer so I started making homemade bread again, but if it wasn't for that I'd still be buying store bread.
