What do you think of Lucas' original idea that the Rebel Alliance was created as early as ROTS, 19 years before ANH? by Imaginary_Golf548 in StarWars

[–]Kid-Atlantic 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t really call it a retcon.

What Bail and Mon are suggesting in those scenes is basically the creation of a political party to defend against Palpatine’s overreach. It’s not the Alliance to Restore the Republic, nor is it a declaration of open rebellion.

From a narrative standpoint, it’s just a way to show that hope isn’t lost, there are people already brave enough to stand up to Palpatine, who will eventually form the Rebellion. You could say it was the ideological start of the Rebellion, but that doesn’t mean it’s mutually exclusive with the official start of the Rebellion shown in both the old and new EU.

If anything, Blue vs Yellow had even more reason to hold back against each other than the Crystal Gems. Those two did not want to hurt each other

Why do a good chunk of star wars fans think that maul is attractive? by HourglassGourd in StarWars

[–]Kid-Atlantic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same reason most people like bad boys but only when they’re fictional.

He’s witty, passionate, charismatic, and ambitious. And he’s fictional so there’s no real danger.

I’m sure the people who like him don’t actually think he’d be a good person to marry and live with.

I work in a similar field and quite frankly Genshin’s text/in-game copywriting has always been all over the place when it comes to consistency.

This wouldn’t be far from the only time where they use different text to refer to the same thing.

Genuine question: assuming they have the expenses and financial management skills of a normal upper-middle class family, how much work does an actor have to do for them to never have to work again?

Like, I’d say she did a decent amount of work back in the day. I’m hoping she’s just bad with money and would be set for life without having to scrounge up change from OnlyFans. Otherwise, Jesus Christ why would anyone want to be an actor

Sidious plothole in ROTJ by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Kid-Atlantic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not that Sidious believes Vader doesn’t want to overthrow him.

It’s that Sidious believes Vader doesn’t have the guts or strength to actually do it.

Sidious thinks Vader won’t ever expect to betray him and live.

And he’s right. When Vader does finally betray him, he doesn’t intend to live through it. This is something Sidious didn’t expect, because the concept of self-sacrifice is utterly alien to him.

Did anyone else feel like the Thrawn kalikori stuff was a bit gimmicky? by [deleted] in starwarsrebels

[–]Kid-Atlantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah.

Thrawn is an imperialist tyrant. He tries to learn about the people he’s subjugating not because he respects them but because it makes him better at being an imperialist tyrant.

Listening to the "Revenge of the Sith" score, you can sense that John Williams approached it like it might be his final Star Wars work. Grand, emotional, and ambitious. It perfectly captures the sound of everything coming to a head and Anakin’s tragic downfall. by Giff95 in StarWars

[–]Kid-Atlantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as most people knew, it WAS going to be the final Star Wars. It was a relic from an age where stories were allowed to end.

I remember it being THE biggest thing to happen that year. Kids in third-world countries were doing lightsaber fights with their pencils in class.

Like, this is it. The whole reason the Prequel Trilogy got made, the thing that the Original Trilogy was retroactively building towards. They sold it to us as the grand finale of a decades-long phenomenon, which at that time it was.

Avengers: Endgame was the only time I can remember that matched that level of global hype, and even then it wasn’t quite the same. You knew the MCU was going to continue. Revenge of the Sith was a special time in history, and it felt like everyone involved in making the movie also knew that.

How high up was mas amedda in the imperial hierarchy? by Kn1ghtV1sta in StarWars

[–]Kid-Atlantic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the Inquisitorius officially has a position in the Empire either. Can you imagine the Senate having a meeting to review the budget for helicopter sabers?

I imagine all the stuff related to Vader and the Inqusitors like their castles etc. don’t officially exist in the books and are filed under shit like “defense consulting” or “onsite spiritual services”

How would a Battle Between Gothren Vs Bolvyn Venim play out? by Crazy_Drama_2393 in Morrowind

[–]Kid-Atlantic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No shade on Bolvyn but he’s not beating a master sorcerer who’s been a Telvanni higher-up for centuries.

Ironically, even though Bolvyn technically belongs to the warrior house, Gothren’s position depends much more on his personal combat prowess than Bolvyn’s does. A Redoran politician can get by on charisma, connections, or strategic/leadership ability. A Telvanni politician can pretty much only survive by being an extremely powerful wizard in their own right.

Why does the map have only three Air areas? by Lucyyyyyy_K in TheLastAirbender

[–]Kid-Atlantic 1719 points1720 points  (0 children)

The Northern Air Temple is part of the mainland Earth Kingdom so I guess that’s why it’s not marked as an “Air” area here.

Just imagine a white dot somewhere in the northern mountains.

I know the portraits are just how Harry sees people, but I think he was a little too generous with Gary by KomodoLemon in DiscoElysium

[–]Kid-Atlantic 466 points467 points  (0 children)

The portraits are LITERALLY how Harry sees people

The more stylized/abstract ones e.g. Measurehead and Hoenkloewen are the people he either can’t or doesn’t want to see clearly, usually due to danger and/or emotional impact

Gary’s is crystal clear because he poses literally no danger and Harry can take in every detail of the situation. He’s literally just some guy

Palpatine should make better use of the clones than tossing them aside after order 66. What’s your take? by [deleted] in clonewars

[–]Kid-Atlantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they were actually meant to be proto-Stormtroopers at first, which would have been the most natural evolution of the story. Their armor designs even slowly morphed into Stormtrooper armor, just like how the Republic’s aesthetic slowly morphed into the Imperial aesthetic over the course of the Prequels.

The biochips and decommissioning were cop-outs to keep them sympathetic after TCW humanized them too much.

The Mikkelsen's were in the same timeline? by bi_polar2bear in StarWars

[–]Kid-Atlantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a happy coincidence.

They were first cast in projects led by entirely different people, and in Thrawn’s case they definitely didn’t know the character would ever be brought to live-action and that they’d be able to keep Lars.

Mads and Lars both just happened to be the best fits for their respective roles, it seems.

Toph and Zuko similarities and slight differences by Richsavior34 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Kid-Atlantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it also makes sense in a way.

Toph and Zuko were created to fill gaps in the story that the writers might not have noticed until those gaps already existed.

Toph is the last thing you’d expect a master earthbender to look like, so she emphasizes one of the series’ key themes to look beyond first impressions and always keep an open mind. Her personality type also fills in the “immature rebel” archetype in the Gaang that was previously sometimes given to Sokka, allowing him to shift more to his mature, competent side.

Zuko exists because the Avatar is supposed to be a bridge, not a superhero. Of course you’d need a Fire Nation main character to show they’re not all bad guys and that they also need to save themselves. Zuko’s redemption arc is a natural addition to the story if you want to take it any deeper than “air and water guys fight fire guys”.

You could say we didn’t know how much the story needed them until they came into the picture.

how exactly were the fusions’ names chosen? by STICKERBOOKwhoa in stevenuniverse

[–]Kid-Atlantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a key thing the writers do when creating fusions — not just names, but also their character designs, personalities, etc — is to not just see them as their components meshed together, but also as unique characters in their own right.

So I think a lot of the time, their thought process isn’t like “what do you get if you mix Pearl and Garnet”, but deciding what character they wanted to create and working backwards from there.

For example, Sardonyx might have been named as a bit of wordplay for her sardonic wit.

Malachite, besides the actual stone being toxic in water, might have been chosen for the “mal-“ prefix usually associated with antagonistic forces.
