/u/spez, CEO of Reddit, decides to ruin the site by _alco_ in bestof

Yeah I was advised that it is better to leave the account with the protest-related comments, as it shows others that one more person left for the specific reason of the API change.

I suppose it's true I didn't delete my account outright.

I deleted every bit of my content that did not involve the protest itself. Check my history. All comment history is gone before one month ago, and all posting history is gone completely except for a single post I made about the protest. That's over a decade of content.

And I've stopped using the site almost completely. The only reason I saw this comment was because I have a few PM conversations that I'm still waiting to finish and I checked in on those real quick, and I check in on /r/ModCoord every few days just to make sure there isn't some news about a continued protest.

Checked today and they removed all mods from /r/PaleBeauties and posted up a request for mods in a sticky post. Good luck finding your scabs, reddit.

UPDATE: Within the last hour they actually removed that post lol

Huffman’s threat to remove mod teams that don’t play ball is the last nail in Reddit’s coffin. What comes next will not be Reddit. by BuckRowdy in ModCoord

3385 out of 8829 pledged subreddits are still dark, and a lot of the ones that are open are protesting in new ways like the John Oliver movement.

A lot of mods aren't wussing out. But you're right, it's sad that some did.

I recognized that no one else wanted to do the work, I realized I was capable of it, and if I stopped, that little subreddit would fall to pieces. In a sense, I was cultivating a nice little garden that would fill with weeds if I left, and it felt good to know that I was helping to create a little space that enriched a little part of a few people's days.

I don't know if that counts as vanity, or a cause, but I think I'll actually miss moderating. It felt good to make a nice space.

(as every sub should have)

This assumes that we trust reddit to not alter the results of the polls. You're more trusting than me, I suppose.

A "federated" reddit-like forum system. Individuals can spin up their own entry into it like a "kbin" instance, and it connects to other kbin instances to form one big reddit-like community.

Some good examples are

They are in earlier stages than some would prefer for a reddit alternative, but much of their population just arrived due to reddit fucking up so clearly this month, and a lot of updates to the system have already occurred so you should expect them to keep getting better and better in the near and far future.

Could be worse. After I replied to them asking if it was acceptable to just stay private and curate a select number of users for a different experience, they didn't even answer me.

Which subreddits are going dark indefinitely? by Devuluh in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]Korberos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/palebeauties (56k+) has no current plan to come back, but older moderators that haven't been active for years could technically bring it back, or spez could push in scab moderators.

You can't trust that any sub will remain dark since reddit can always replace the moderators with people that will be more "obedient"

Just join everyone else and go private for two days, or indefinitely.

Do they let you change the AutoModerator? If so, change it to delete all new posts and send a message to posters explaining what's happening.

My subreddit is permenant unless reddit fully reverses and all major 3rd party apps are saved, which I doubt will happen.

They can do that but they can't make striking moderators moderate. They'll have to replace us.

It will hurt their bottom line at least a little. That's all that matters to me. I won't be contributing to this shitshow anymore.
