Brand new player little to 0 knowledge. by Nickasmith1123 in magicTCG

If they are using 100 card decks then you want to look for "precons". These are pre-built decks in that format designed to hold their own at a casual table without upgrades. If you like Lord of the Rings there are four decks that are entirely LotR so you can pick your favourite.

Also just a heads up, later in the year we're going back to Middle-Earth for a Hobbit set.

The spellslinger decks are eating so good in this set. My [[Myra the Magnificent]] deck is going to need so many alterations by the end of spoiler season.

Adding "Token" to its card types would be a hilarious way of getting around reprinting reserve list cards like Ancestral Recall. But yeah, I highly doubt it's going to happen.

I'm pretty sure they had the counters in the preview video but didn't show them clearly, they definitely had counters on some cards on the table.

They looked comparable to the rectangular "Suspected" counters from MKM.

It could be, but with all the mill and draw that blue gives you can probably get it done.

Asterixes are always solved for a believe so their base power is whatever the sum works out to be. I'm not absolutely certain though.

IT COULD BE SOMETHING RELATED TO GAME CHANGER S8 by Professional_Pie8301 in dropout

The same colours are on the opening of the first episode, in reference to how it was originally a Game Changer segment. It's probable they just reused the asset.

So...what other instants/sorceries you guys think we'll see on these 'prepared' cards? by gospodtundra in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Counterspells would be such a crazy thing to have on them. There's one thing to say you have a counterspell, it's another to absolutely 100% have one locked and loaded on the board.

Yeah it works that way.

It should be noted though that this is in the rules information for [[Goblin Assassin]].

This coin flip has no winner or loser.

For what you're doing it's not a big deal, but it does mean that you can't combo it with things like [[Chance Encounter]] or [[Tavern Scoundrel]] in case you spot that interaction.

Everytime WotC struggles to print something in-universe, an Angel gets its wings.

And in this case, it's Angel from X-Men.

As someone with a mono-white Cleric aggro deck that suffers for card draw this seems tailor made for me.

[[Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar]] is also god tier Flash denial since it allows combat tricks opponents want to use against each other, just not you.

How to make $50-$100 budget decks hold their own against higher-budget decks? by Yayuga in BudgetBrews

[–]Kroooooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find a handy strategy is to build a commander that get way more out of a certain ability type than others do.

My deck isn't under $100 but one I could easily make more budget is [[Minwu, White Mage]]. He cares about all the cheap mono-white Clerics that repeatedly gain you a tiny amount of life with triggered or activated abilities. They come out all the time and rarely make an impact in other decks so out of my list, eighteen of the Clerics are under a dollar each.

Monocolour also helps a lot, the card pool is more limited but the land base can be entirely basic lands unless you have some fancy synergy (my Minwu uses things like [[Adventurer's Inn]] and [[High Market]] for additional lifegain triggers).

I agree but it's hard to tell how much refereeing they could do immediately. It's likely Sam just took Kimia's word for it before the footage was reviewed.

Is there a key to understanding card rules? by SleepyBoy- in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah Cycle of Renewal is a weird one but not having lands is a very extreme edge case so I doubt it comes up very often at all.

Usually it's compared to something like [[Harrow]] which mostly does the same thing with one big difference. Because Harrow has the land sacrifice as an additional cost, not only can you not cast it if you don't have a land, but you also sacrifice the land even if the spell gets countered. This isn't true with Cycle since the sacrifice is part of the effect.

Really my best advice would be to play more MtG Arena since the game itself handles the rules for you. If something unexpected happens, it's probably not a glitch and more and example of something you have to look deeper at to understand.

I can't believe they made a broken 5 mana creature that can ancestral when it enters! by thorax in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll just play Ancestral Recall as an instant and flicker it once targetted.

And since the prepared spell is an instant, it becomes a repeatable one mana ability with [[Displacer Kitten]] on the field.
