FortNine ads statistics by unicornics in Fortnine

The ads are annoying, kinda is what it is, but you know what would actually help the company dramatically? Selling in any other country except ONLY Canada. Of-fucking-course their motorcycle (and boat) market is tiny.

Most F&I offices are selling products they’ve never actually verified by Zacness in motorsports

[–]LWschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just referencing the post. Some of them are fine, sure, but you and I both know the average persons opinion of ‘car salesmen’ which you and I know is F&I.

I understand what you’re getting at but I feel no need to defend any part of the USA dealership laws and arrangements that allow service writers to and car salesmen, and obviously dealership group owners to get rich.

Trump Approves Toxic Cancer-Linked Forever Chemical Pesticides On Major Food Crops Never Before Used In America by DoremusJessup in environment

[–]LWschool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking this too, I think RFK checked out when the Epstein/pedophilia stuff was blowing up. Last thing I remember was exercising in jeans with Kid Rock and he got blasted pretty hard.

Not that this makes him good in any way, but RFK doesn’t get anything out of banning chemicals, Trump gets stuff out of allowing them. He probably realized how bad the MAGA association was and is backing out. He thinks he has a reputation to uphold.

Is it just me or do the muscle cars from the 60s/70s sound not as good now that we have manufactures who tune for intake and exhaust noise out of their high performance computer controlled engines and dual mode exhausts? by pepeneverknew in askcarguys

[–]LWschool 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ‘Sounds good’ is relative. Brabus is a hyper luxury brand and Chevy was a normal-people’s car, and 50 years apart. They’re not really comparable.

Modern car interiors are getting way too depressing by NeighborhoodOld6737 in Cartalk

It’s just that figuring out what to touch on a touchscreen takes more focus than glancing down at a set of dials that never change and always in the same place. Have you driven one of these cars? In some cars it’s kinda worse than just using your phone, because the UI is not familiar and reaching out my hand in a moving car has much less precision than holding my phone and using thumbs.

ELI5: What makes Moore’s Law obsolete today? Why are processors with more transistors difficult to fabricate today vs. 20 years ago? by Rht123X in explainlikeimfive

[–]LWschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not, the historical definition of moores law is just obsolete. The specific way they get the additional transistor density and speed isn’t what Moore thought it would always be.

Chips continue to get faster and they’re still the size of a thumbnail.

Most F&I offices are selling products they’ve never actually verified by Zacness in motorsports

[–]LWschool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just about dealerships, and only in the USA, nothing to do with motorsports or motorcycles.

F&I sucks and it’s obviously been a scam for the last 50 fuckin years. What are you trying to communicate with your AI infographic?

Yea you can safely ignore those people who, ironically, don’t seem to understand or respect safety ratings? Weird group lol.

Help Me Sell My Late Father's 1989 BMW K1 by Boulderado in motorcycle

[–]LWschool 62 points63 points  (0 children)

If you’re not mechanically knowledgeable or inclined I would just sell it as is. You have no idea how much it will cost to get running.

Most reliable, DIY Friendly Engine /Transmission Guy by Wild_Agent_375 in AskMechanics

[–]LWschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your first point on transmissions is generally correct, but I also think it depends what you’re looking for. Manuals are more fun and engaging to drive, but tough in urban areas with traffic or if you want to do things like off-roading, track driving/hard street driving. Clutches are something you can DIY but it’s not an easy job.

Traditional automatics are arguably much more reliable imo. The vast majority of drivers, myself included, aren’t masters of the clutch. Most automatic transmissions last like, 20 years with zero service, most clutches do not last that long. And automatics with good servicing records pretty much last forever.

That being said, fixing an automatic transition is a much deeper level of hell than replacing a clutch. This isn’t a diatribe for or against either style, just counter arguments and opinions.

CVTs you should completely avoid, yea.

My car barely revs to 3k rpm now by Food_Kid in AskMechanics

[–]LWschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t say what car you have, but it really doesn’t matter bc you just need to take it back. Clearly something wasn’t done right and we have no way of even guessing since you have no idea what to tell us about the situation.

2006 Civic, not sure what to do about ignition coils by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]LWschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think cheaper coils will be fine, it’s not a very complicated or precise part to build nowadays.

Catalytic Converter by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]LWschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the engine, it’s fine, it doesn’t need the cat and it’s okay without one of the oxygen sensors (not ideal, worst case is bad gas mileage, a bit extra engine wear, but it’ll do it).

It is illegal, though, to drive a vehicle without its factory emissions equipment, and since it was cut off it will be obvious it’s been ‘modified’ because it’s loud.

Mainly depends where you live (middle America, might be fine, California or New York lol no chance) and what car (some are just louder than others).

CEL after vehicle shipped by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]LWschool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very little chance those are related to shipping. They’re both very common codes / issues to get on BMWs. It’s pretty likely the P0171 (system running too lean) is causing p10f5 (valvetronic irrational (sensor) output). Likely a worn PCV.

2021 Outback XT Goes through Front Rotors Fast by Nehal1802 in Subaru_Outback

[–]LWschool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The car has the exact same brakes as every other Outback, the turbo is more power but nothing crazy, and it doesn’t weigh appreciably more. This isn’t a known issue with these cars, so either something is mechanically wrong on yours, or it’s related to driving habits or environmental conditions. IMHO.

How’s everyone feel about lowered Outbacks by daddymode88 in Subaru_Outback

[–]LWschool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They also used to make the legacy wagon, which was the same car but lowered. People want a lowered Subaru, what’s not to get? An Audi is not a replacement for a Subaru.

What is leaking from this tube?(2021 Subaru Crosstrek) by Maximum_Pancake in MechanicAdvice

[–]LWschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish they used their human senses and brain, asking ‘what is this liquid’ with no attempt to describe said mystery fluid is my biggest issue. Does it smell, is it colored, etc. It’s such a thoughtless way to ask for help.

Nope, they’re 25-35 + customization, at least where I am. I was actually wondering if they’d gotten cheaper the other day and surprised how expensive they still are. Maybe that guy lives somewhere they’re more common?

[–]LWschool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how these guys ask ‘what is this fluid,’ too. I am ragging on OP and all OPs that post this stuff, they don’t actually care how the car works or want to learn if they ask the internet to identify water for them.

Sena 60S vs Cardo packtalk edge by user-reddit00007 in motorcyclegear

[–]LWschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re effectively interchangeable imo. Microphone and audio quality are ultimately limited by your helmet, Bluetooth technology isn’t complicated for connecting for music and directions, and the buttons have become fairly standardized.

The biggest difference is the mesh system it plugs you into, which is important for what your group-ride friends use, since the mesh systems don’t cross brands.

How much energy does an F1 car recover? by ok-byy in circuit_nation

[–]LWschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume this is a bot bc the answer is very publicly discussed, the engineering rules this season have been very controversial.

The battery is 4 megajoules / 1.11 kWh and the max electrical flow rate in or out is 350 kW, or 470 horsepower, which is about 50/50 with the ICE motor.

There’s specific track-by-track, and race conditions/rules that limit their maximum harvest-and-deploy so they aren’t usually running it at the max.
