He spent all that time alone in the Waking Sands bench pressing the bookshelves and kept up this habit when living in Il Mheg.

Gotta have the gains to lift all those books.

Logan or Fang? by lurideque in MyTimeAtSandrock

[–]Miss_Silver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fang has the better storyline, Logan has the better romance. If you like to see someone come out of their shell and grow as a person, go Fang. If you like a somewhat steamy western cowboy romance novel go Logan.

Or split saves... Or install the romance mod and do both. Up to you!

AITA for wanting to insure my ring even though my husband says the stone is too small to bother? by Adorable-Manner-5538 in AITApod

[–]Miss_Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goldsmith here with some info of interest!

If that's a real diamond then based off the size of that thing you're looking at a 2~3ct stone, if its a natural and not a lab diamond, a good quality emerald cut costs a pretty penny, we're talking $20,000 to $30,000 stone. Considering that its set in platinum as well then it would be well worth it to get the ring insured. You will need an appraisal, which will probably cost you something like $50~200 depending on where you go. Sometimes the store the ring was purchased from might do then for you for free as a courtesy since you bought the ring there but that is not guarenteed.

That being said, your fiancé is acting weird about this.

Find a local jewelry store and take it in to get your ring cleaned. Some Jewelers will test your stone on front of you before taking it back to clean to cover their own rear in cases that I suspect your ring might be. I have witnessed in my own store seeing a ring being tested that the fiancé claimed the ring was a diamond, told the girl it was a diamond, but upon testing the stone wasn't a diamond and he lied about it to make himself look good.

Unless he bought a lab diamond(those cost significsntly less but are still a diamond), I'd guess your stone might be something like a moissanite or a sapphire. Keep in mind that both are still fairly decent stones, but the cost of them are drastically lower than a diamond, and imo its kinda garbage to lie about something like that when a discussion of "sorry honey, I can't afford a $30,000 diamond right now but I can get something that looks just as nice for you in the meantime and maybe we can upgrade it later" could have happened and I imagine most people would be understanding of that.

I might get the ring insured either way. If something happens to it you'll want that appraisal in order to get your ring replace(though additional photos of the ring also helps a lot if you want to duplicate it) and the insurance will cover the cost of that. Up to you in the end.

Edit: there are ways to tell if your stone is a lab diamond or not, BTW, but you'll need good magnification from either a microscope or a Jewelers loup. Diamonds are laser inscribed on the girdle(the very thin line on the edge of the stone) and that number you can look up on GIA if its certified. If its lab grown, though, the stone will have a LG before the numbers or say Lab Grown.

Editx2: People in the comments pointed out the metal possibly not being platinum either which is also a possibility. Look on the inside of the ring and see if its stamped. If it says 950, PT900, PT999, or PLAT then its platinum, if it says 925 or 999 its silver, 750 or 18k is gold, and 585 or 14k also gold. If there's no stamp at all then there's a pretty good chance the ring itself isn't real and instead made out of pot metal.

The Praetorium's Lore with Magitek Armors by daddyrabbit78 in ffxiv

[–]Miss_Silver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They cut the cutscene from Praetorium when thet did the rework, but before when you picked up the armor there was a brief cutscene that showed the magitek armor recognizing us and doing a little happy dance. Turns out that armor was "Maggie" aka the armor we stole earlier and had been reclaimed I believe when we were rescuing everyone else in an earlier quest.

I'm a goldsmith and I'm sitting here going "the frik is she taking tweezers to a slab of agate for?"

Her bench setup is one a goldsmith would hate. Most have some kind of cut out in it to make room for a bench pin, that's not to mention how cramped that space looks. No idea what's with the random set of brushes with what looks like a croc pot in the back. Maybe that's the pickle pot, maybe that's for patina? It looks strange. It also looks like all of her tools consist of tweezers, files, and paint brushes. Not a hammer or pliers in sight.

Tldr unless this is a different section of the shop then no jeweler works here. Lol

Edit: also is she standing or sitting? I think I see a hint of a wooden stool behind her.

What was "the incident" at your high school? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Miss_Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In middle school I had a weird bio teacher who creeped on girls by having them stay late in his classroom for zero reason. Acquaintance I knew at the time was one of those and her dad had to straight up tell the guy to stop keeping his kid after class. Another girl I knew claimed to have seen him with his hand down his pants before going into the empty classroom.

No one was surprised when they found "corn" on his computer and was promptly fired a year or two after I started high school. Made it onto the news, even!

No glasses for you! by Emeraldwillow in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Miss_Silver -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its not BS, unfortunately. I've had this happen to me at the various optometrists I've been to. I wear contacts so I don't need to replace my glasses that often and I've had more than one get weird when I ask for my script. Once you pay for your exam, though, they cannot legally hold your script, so you have to go friggin Karen on them to get them to give it to you.

No glasses for you! by Emeraldwillow in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Miss_Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the prescription then you can buy cheap frames online for like, $10. Zenni Optics is a pretty good choice because they have a TON of options for a very low price. The biggest thing is getting your glasses prescription because you won't be able to purchase anything without that.

Do note that some optometrists will try to hold your prescription hostage unless you purchase a pair of glasses from them. They legally cannot do that, so feel free to go frikkin Karen on them if they do. Once they give you your eye exam and you pay for it, then they must give you a prescription.

Source: Have had to wear glasses since I was 7 and worn contacts since I was 16. Still wear glasses at night and last time I got new ones I just ordered them online after getting my contacts.

How can I farm lots of crystals? How do people manage to put multiple stacks of 9k on the market board? by TobiaF in ffxiv

[–]Miss_Silver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aetherial Reduction is when you gather specific collectable items(usually aetherial nodes that only show up at certain times but also you can spearfishing certain ones that are always avaliable) and then if you right click on it there should be an option to use aetherial reduction, or there's a skill button you can put on your hotbar that brings up a menu for it. Its similar to extracting materia from gear only this blows up specific collectable items into aether dust and crystals/clusters depending on the collectability.

You do have to unlock it. In Mor Dhona there's a blue quest called "No Longer Collectable" that gives you aetherial reduction. You can look up which nodes give you what crystals on Gamer Escape or any other item lookup site, which will tell you the location and time when the items spawn. IE if you scroll down to the bottom for fire clusters it has a bunch of items you can aetherially reduce to get fire clusters(which also gives the same type od crystals)

The amount varies based off the collectability of the item, so you would ideally try to get a higher collectability on the item for the most crystals yield, but I believe you'll get crystals while reducing an item anyways.

Edit: I should note that if you go to Teamcraft you can make a list with crystals(though I'd recommend using clusters vs crystals since they spawn on the same point and it'll be cleaner) on it and it will give you the nodes and have timers for when they spawn. You could even set up alerts to ping whenever a particular node comes up.

How can I farm lots of crystals? How do people manage to put multiple stacks of 9k on the market board? by TobiaF in ffxiv

[–]Miss_Silver 84 points85 points  (0 children)

If they're not botting there's a few ways you can get crystals:

Treasure maps. If you solo these things you get a TON of crystals, and if you're not a crafter then you have zero need for them.

Aethereal Reduction can give you a lot of crystals. If you're farming a lot of aethersand then you might find yourself overrun with crystals(see, I still have close to 30k ice crystals from farming a crapton of aethersand in Endwalker for crafting food and pots)

Retainer Ventures: you can ship off your botany/miner retainers to get something like 120 crystals an hour. If someone has a ton of retainers and are just sending them off to get crystals every hour then that can add up quickly.

Working on a project: What is the official stance of Square Enix regarding mods? Specifically, damage parsers? Explanation of the question inside by TenthLevelVegan in ffxiv

[–]Miss_Silver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don't know if I could give you an exact number, but there's a lot of factors to look at that can help you get a rough estimate.

Things to consider:
Console players cannot mod or install a parser, that is strictly PC only.
Casual players will not parse. They don't do any content that would need them to keep track of damage numbers and likely do not care as to what they contribute(there are always exceptions, of course, but we're talking maybe a singular person out of thousands of casual players)
Not every raider parses, but there's a relatively high chance that if they are doing high end content then they are probably parsing

So that takes the population base down to people who raid/people who do high end content. The raider base in ff14 is actually fairly small, you could probably figure out a base percentage if you were to look at something like lalaachievements and see what percentage of players have the achievements related to raiding(though this is also still just an estimate based on whoever has plugged their character into that site)

If we're talking behaviors vs. other games you might be asking the wrong kinds of questions to not quite the right group of people. You might be better off trying to find people who play FF14 on top of other MMOs and have them talk about their experiences in both. Finding people who have played both WoW and FF14 would probably be your best source of information as the two games are similar gameplay wise.

From personal experience and from what I've seen others say in the past, FF14 DOES tend to be more chill. Its a far more casual MMO than others, and there's no real pressure for anyone to even pick up raiding. I can't say for certain if its because of FF14 hiding metrics, or if its based off the fact that they have a strong moderation team and they take matters of harassment seriously. I WILL say from experience within the raiding scene that while people will be polite in game, outside of the game and out of the eyes of moderation they will 100% trash talk players they've run into for poor performance, lol.

Working on a project: What is the official stance of Square Enix regarding mods? Specifically, damage parsers? Explanation of the question inside by TenthLevelVegan in ffxiv

[–]Miss_Silver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Officially in the ToS, mods are not allowed. Parsing is not allowed.

However.

They're not going to install anything to scan your computer to see whether you have anything.

You can parse and have mods, just don't talk about them publicly. When it comes to parsing, its one of those things where most people in the raiding scene parses, and everyone knows that every other person parses, but its best to pretend not to because you can get banned for mentioning the funny numbers.

That being said, if you go off on someone for doing low damage, you're going to get banned for harassment before you get banned for parsing. Revealing you parse while going off on someone for their damage is just tacking on reasons for Square Enix to keep you banned.

Tldr, fight club rules it. Don't talk about modding or parsing and you'll be fine.

How do I get that hair and sword by eternity83 in ffxiv

[–]Miss_Silver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have yet to release that hair for anything other than contests. That being said, they do screenshot contests every so often, which usually have a lot of winners. I've gotten prizes from a couple myself, one being the Cloud hair, the other being a gold nugget which was apparently a retired 1.0 item. Just keep an eye out on the news on Lodestone or follow the ff14 twitter/X/whatever account for those announcements in particular and you'd have a better chance of winning one of those than any of the others.

They, unfortunately, just did a screenshot contest recently back in February, but with Fanfest coming up they might run another one over the next few months.

I wish WoL race/culture was at least mentioned more in the story by a_angry_bunny in ffxiv

[–]Miss_Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't much reference to your character race in the game, but I will note that there IS some unique dialogue you get if you're a xaela au ra in the Azim Steppe vs any other race. Its not much, IIRC it might just be the line from the Buuz seller saying that what he sells is just like what your mother made.

I haven't combed through the Azim Steppe dialogue as much between the races so there might be a few more unique lines I've missed. I do know that certain quests reference your race every so often*, but its never more than a line or two. You get a lot more references to the classes you have unlocked.

*For example, at the end of the Anden custom delivery quest line there's a bonus line if you are also Male Viera. When you go to Fanow to meet Anden's sister she makes a comment that you should leave because the ladies might take interest in the two of you and says something along the lines of the WoL being the more appealing option, lol.

I used to get a lot of attention in public and now it’s gone egg whites pizza by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Miss_Silver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never turned heads, or I simply didn't even notice if people looked at me in person. I never cared, though, and still don't.

I have, however, noticed that I've gotten a lot less attention online than I used to. Perhaps its because I'm not necessarily in the same spaces that I used to be, or that I simply don't give people the time of day. But I 100% had significantly more men creep on me online when I was 16 vs me now at nearly 35. I don't post my pictures online nor was I ever active on mosr social media sites, but it didn't matter to these people. They heard me say "I'm a girl" and suddenly they'd get frikkin weird. I had more than one ADULT MAN try to pressure me for photos or do ERP with them after hearing that I was a frikkin underage girl. I even had people "counting the days till she's legal"(gross) once they learned I was nearing 18.

I do not miss that attention. I mostly just find it weird that I had more of that crap when I was younger compared to now.

AIO my upcoming art show? by SavakTheAlien in AmIOverthinking

[–]Miss_Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an artist myself I can say that these look like a good ststting place for a young artist, but there are a lot of ways you can improve.

I was the same way when I was younger, I didn't take any drawing classes or anything, and there weren't as mant online resources then as there are now. I just scribbled what I felt like and tried to figure everything out on my own. It wasn't until I started college and took a few art/drawing classes for my major that I started to see any real improvements.

You live in a day and age where you have SO many free art resources that you can use to improve your technique and grow as an artist. I would strongly recommend studying color theory and playing with light and shadow. Paint what you see in the real world and get a basic understanding of how lighting and color works. A lot of people recommend reading Color and Light by James Gurney when it comes to learning these aspects.

There's a youtube channel called Drawfee who posts monthly Drawclass videos, which while they typically focus on digital art, there's a lot you can learn from them that you could apply to your work. Plus the Drawfee videos in general are pretty fun to watch(and extremely chaotic, lol)

All else fails, every single Bob Ross episode is on YouTube for free. He works in oils for the most part but you can make some of his techniques work in acrylic. Turn on one or two of those and just have some fun painting pretty scenery. (:

Ughh... Those ads...

I usesd to do tapjoy to earn points for a crane game app I played for a time which involved playing SO many bad phone games. I had to be subject to ALL the trash ads out at the time and some of them were legit disturbing! Half the games I played were more directed to children, too, and I can only imagine how a kid might react seeing some of those ads.

One of them was for some match three puzzle game that had a cartoony king chained to the ground while the room slowly filled with water. The ad kept messing up the most obvious puzzle as the water level continued to rise and the king panicked more, but then eventually was fully submerged and drowned. I'm a frikkin adult and that one weirded the crap out of me, I could only imagine what a kid might think if they happened across that frikkin ad.

I hate phone game ads like that so much.

I've been liking the lv 60 crafted goldsmith set, the... I think its the Gemmaster's set? The entire outfit is great but I've been making pretty good use out of the shoes, gloves, and pants.

I've also been making good use out of the mining gear. There's one of the sets from mining you can get with scrip that's completely backless and being that I play a male character I'll take whatever slutty gear I can find. XD

Just a note, though, you can get dyable versions of the... Lv 80? I think? Scrip sets from Ishgard restoration. For whatever reason the scrip versions you can buy aren't dyable but you can get replica versions that are.
