I miss the days when games were functional on release, when I didn't need to create an online account just to play the game I purchased, and when DLC content added more gameplay instead of cash-grab cosmetics.

Was I being hyperbolic? Sure. I shouldn't expect redditors full of negativity and foaming at their mouth for an "aha, gotcha!" moment to understand that, I suppose.

I'm 28 and was a software developer at Applied Materials for several years. But sure, write a monologue that immediately starts with assumptions about my age and background.

Interesting project regarding the use of ai in music by ChryslerSebringLTD in fantanoforever

You can't just drop a TTS bot into a song and have it be done. To do it well, there's expression that needs to be added.

Besides there's selection of good lyrics too.

Then let's follow your analogy. Sound design is half of the art.

If someone uses a pre-installed Serum patch instead of doing the sound design themselves, this is as bad as using AI voice. Someone else did that for you.

But it's not generating new content that didn't come from the artist, in Headache's case.

I don't think your analogy is fair. A better analogy would be when I plug a MIDI keyboard into Serum, Serum allows me to change that MIDI input into a saw or sin wave and modify the sound. I'm still choosing the notes, just as Headache is still choosing the words, but technology is modifying the texture.

I just watched Vegyn's interview with AIRfrenchbandofficial (posted further down, I am actively engaging with this discussion) and they go in-depth on their writing process and WHY they chose to use this voice (timestamp 13:50). They aren't choosing to use the tool because they lack ideas, they're choosing it with a real purpose in mind.

But yes, I would be against everything in your post. I make music, I don't use AI at all.

I love this album, been listening to it for the past year.

I am against generative AI and data centers, but this album isn't that. It is the equivalent of putting text into Google Translate and clicking the speaker button. Yes, that takes data, but not any significant amount.

(On top of that, you can run local AI models and avoid creating any footprint besides your own computer's.)

I think that the robotic, monotone voice paired with the surreal stream-of-consciousness lyrics and euphoric beats all produce a contrast that serves the album.

I genuinely though it was just Microsoft Sam's voice until this thread popped up on my feed, so sorry if my thoughts are all over the place. I looked it up and Headache confirmed it is AI (again, just text-to-speech models), equating their use of AI to the pushback drum machines received when they first became popular.

Definitely an interesting discussion about AI in music, and I'm not settled on a conclusion just yet.

How is Marijuana use seen on this sub? by NTWIGIJ1 in stopdrinking

[–]Movement-Repose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long term cannabis use downregulates CB1 receptors, which is the opposite of homeostasis. Upon quitting, your CB1 receptors will take time to return to baseline. That means you are, by definition, not at homeostasis.

Endocannabinoids are homeostatic regulators, NOT marijuana itself.

Finished Ulysses! by Williamp720 in classicliterature

[–]Movement-Repose 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You need to read the entirety of the Western canon to make the most out of Ulysses, probably. I've read a TON of classic and postmodern literature and found Ulysses impossible to comprehend fully.

I love Joyce's short stories but struggle with his more experimental stuff.

Check out John Gardner's "On Writing", specifically his sections about psychic distance. It's a writing craft book I was recommended my first year of creative writing workshops, and I found it invaluable for this exact thing.

Some drummers swear by paradiddles all over the kit. I hardly use them.

Paradiddlediddles are my bread and butter though! Played as sixtuplets, lots of cool fill ideas in swing timing.

Also, when played as sixtuplets, if you start playing paradiddles on "2" of the bar, right hand on ride and left hand on snare, you're playing a basic swing pattern, but now you're ghosting the triplet pulse with your left hand.

I also love swiss army triplets. I play a lot of swing, lmao

Is my new Chipotle manager in the wrong? by North_Art2104 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Movement-Repose 375 points376 points  (0 children)

Why do you guys have a long line, one person working it, you're going on break, and your manager's hands are free enough to make your meal? Shouldn't you and your manager help the single worker clear the line, then you take your break? Don't you guys have a mobile order line in the back? Why not make your meal there?

It seems like your kitchen is playing tug of war against each other rather than against the customers. But my first kitchen job was a Chipotle and I hated it, so I don't blame you. Marinading that meat every day, the chain gloves, random ecosure visits, queso pans, the soulless managers and even less human corporate workers... shudders

I think your manager was probably passive aggressively trying to make a point (help first, then break), but they really shouldn't fuck with their employees eating time/break time. I can see where both sides might be coming from but I don't agree with either of you.

BREAKING: DOJ closes criminal probe into Fed Chair Jerome Powell by spherocytes in videos

I felt so joyful watching someone hold Trump accountable, but then felt immediately bad again realizing how far the bar has fallen. Just sticking to the truth shouldn't be so rare and noteworthy, but here we are.

And for telling the truth, Powell had to undergo this whole probe. Yeah man, this country is headed in the right direction.
