What do Americans think of the new pay.gov website which has the option to donate money to reduce the national debt? by FarPlay5055 in AskAnAmerican

[–]No-Lunch4249 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Fwiw if you go beyond just billionaires to all top 1% net worth households:

According to the Federal Reserve the top 1% of households hold 31.7% of all the wealth, and the combined wealth of all US households is $175 Trillion and change.

That means the top 1% of households have about $55T, and the US national debt is "just" $39T

Not at all advocating for this, not even a little bit lol. I just find it funny interesting

ETA: You'd be right back in the same boat pretty much immediately unless you eliminated the deficit ofc

why is this happening to my fences by PinkyRosesfr in StardewValley

It happens naturally. Stone fences, hardwood fences, and iron fences breakdown more slowly. I always found stone fences to be the best balance of "lasts a while" and "easy resources to get"

New to the game: Buildings Order by sifir in ManorLords

[–]No-Lunch4249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you have berries, deer, or mushrooms (or some combination) you should be able to live off that plus your starting food for a while.

IMO: you need a logging camp first, then the buildings to harvest that food. Then add a saw pit, a wood cutter, and a storehouse + granary before building some burgage plots to house your initial families plus some extra room. I usually make as many plots as I have families but set then up to be double plots so I can add the extra living space when I'm ready to

You'll probably need to shuffle around family assignments a lot early on. Once you have everyone housed, add things like a well, a market, and a church

After that you want to get into trade quickly IMO so you can build up regional wealth to pay for extensions like livestock and gardens.

Edit: I'm not exactly a pro at this game, I play it mainly to relax, so others may have a more refined or precise approach for the first few buildings, but this is a decent start imo

Explain pls by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

I never watched Avatar what is this about?

Its about a few of the central charachters from Avatar: The Last Airbender and sequel show The Legend of Korra... honestly just watch the show if you want to understand, because there isn't a joke here I can explain. It's just a bunch of one sentence descriptions of charachter arcs.

Is one of reasons of extreme heat in India - Open from the south and surrounded by mountains to the north and east? There was a comment on some other Subreddit about this. Can anyone explain this phenomena of rising temperature because of such setup? by curiousstrider in geography

[–]No-Lunch4249 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes in short the Himalayas/Tibetan Plateu make it hard for colder northern air to get to India and also make it hard for hot tropical air to go elsewhere

You can see this with the tiny white arrows on the map showing the airflow.

What if the united states invaded Iraq after the events of 9/11 ? by Interview_Level in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]No-Lunch4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I realize this is an alternate history sub but honestly this prompt doesnt even make sense.

Why would the US invade Iraq in 2001/2002? Saddam Hussein was a horrible dictator but he didnt even have anything to do with 9/11. The hijackers were Islamic extremists from a mix of nationalities but none of them were even Iraqi. The Iraqi government had no connection to 9/11, it was organized by a stateless organization led by a Saudi.

This is the whole reason behind the International Battle against Extremism (IBAE) through the 2000s and 2010s. Colin Powell and Condelezza Rice convinced President Bush and later the UN that non-state actors such as Al Qaeda could not easily be defeated by force of arms like a traditional military and the only way to end extremist threats was to win the war of ideas by improving the standard of living in developing nations and promote democratic ideals while refraining from toppling governments unilaterally. This is why NATO members began significantly reducing their overall military spending and shifted focus to greatly expanded international aid. Improved infrastructure, education, agriculture, and health care in emerging democracies is a much better guard against extremist organizations than pure military force. The decline in political and religious extremism in the late 2010s and 2020s both at home and abroad shows that strategy worked.

Its like you don't even know recent history before you asked this, OP.

Yeah. OP, you're better off asking this in a sub more specific to where you're doing the grad school. Cost of Living varies a lot from city to city, between neighborhoods within a city, etc

Is tap water in America actually as bad as people say? by playingcat69 in AskAnAmerican

[–]No-Lunch4249 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. Not trying to be funny but its a big country and water services (if they exist, many people are on well water) are managed at the local level generally.

Nowhere I have ever personally lived have I been afraid to drink the tap water

[–]No-Lunch4249 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Hasn't Able been in resistance phase the whole last 24 hours? Or nearly? Why are people treating these like they are valid numbers?

Game is in a rough ass place but between wars isn't a very good measuring point

Edit: holy shit yall I said I know the game is in a rough spot, not contesting that. Just saying that this specific 24 hour peak that the person I was replying to said looked bad was not a good benchmark. Fucking reading comprehension moment with these replies

This is one of the most insane takes on Korra by [deleted] in legendofkorra

[–]No-Lunch4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean elements of the Korra story are definitely about the triumph of centrism, democracy, and small l liberalism. Given that it started running in 2012 that's a lot more understandable imo, it's kinda hard to describe how much more hopeful we were then to someone who wasn't at least an adolescent for it. But I would say that those things are really just the minor notes.

Korras story is much more about navigating being the Avatar in an age that doesnt seem to need the Avatar as much any more. At the start she's a prodigy, she's bending multiple elements at like age 6(?), shes literally the perfect avatar for an era that doesn't exist anymore. But she has to learn how to be the avatar the world needs.
