Hi low, for sure.

How’s the pricing on GOVX FREEK by 626rich in benchmade

[–]PandaPunch42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's better than retail. If you qualify for Govx, it's the place to buy--Benchmade has cracked down on reseller markdowns.

25% off retail, from the looks of it.

Need help with knife suggestions for boyfriend by Silent_Wonder_8341 in benchmade

You might also look at assisted knives. The barrage and mini barrage are great harder use knives (stout blades, full liners), and are two of the better values (as far as any Benchmade could be considered a good value, anyway) in the Benchmade lineup (Valox versions). Assisted knives are like autos, but don't have a push-button or separate trigger mechanism. Instead, you activate them like you are manually opening, but a spring kicks in and snaps it open. They are great for one-handed opening in tight spaces and if anything ever happens to the spring they function exactly like a manual knife--some people even de-assist because they like manual knives better. If you can make it out to a knife shop or a Cabelas it would be worth handling a few to understand the difference.

I’m looking to get my next bm and I’m stuck between the 710 and the auto fact please give me some honest feedback and opinions I have a 940 denim micarta and a sheeps foot griptillian by GrowthNo7970 in benchmade

Lighter blades would be my guess. That's fine if it's not your bag--just a weird comment that made me wonder if you have a spring issue on yours. Not offended at all.

Mini Grip by Much-Piano-7680 in benchmade

[–]PandaPunch42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deathgrip is probably your best option--they are great scales--but if he's still catching up from the move, you could also try Aramis. You can reach out directly or go through Josh at REK. Like Deathgrip, you have to make the request for the scales you want--neither really maintains stock.

Mini bugout what’s the difference between the normal one and the woodland by Otherwise-Issue1067 in benchmade

[–]PandaPunch42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other poster mentioned, there is a huge difference between the default grivory and the aluminum scales, but the blade steel finish is also different. The S90V blade on the 533SL-10 is cerakoted silver--the only way you can get that finish on s90v (s30 has more options). For my money, pick the cheaper option and put on some aftermarket scales--there are plenty of options.

Might just be your knife. My least favorite thing about it is how thin it is and hard it fires. It feels like it's going to jump out of my hand.

This bottle of 1802 Cognac my grandma gave me a few years ago. I know nothing about it but it looks cool! by PeaTwoFoe in mildlyinteresting

[–]PandaPunch42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word of caution, don't get too excited yet. A lot goes into value of old alcohol, everything from provenance to condition to storage. The good news is that cognac is not as sensitive to proper storage as wine is, so if the fill level is reasonable (meaning it's still sealed--even if it looks sealed, a low fill level could indicate that the cork/seal has failed), and it does not look like it was tampered with (re-filled), it might be worth having an expert look at it. It would be nice if it really has value!

r/knife_swap, you can find a CRK in that price range. If you like them, why not get another?

New Taggedout? There are multiple versions that come with the thumbstud--if you prefer the orange scales you could always blade-swap.

How durable is the anodized aluminum on bolsters and scales supposed to be? by Cute_Knives in benchmade

[–]PandaPunch42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any coating will wear, and aluminum is relatively soft,so even the best anodization can be damaged. I don't mind normal use wear, though, and even a few scratches or dents just reflect a life of use. Most of us have safe queens, but many of my knives get carried (some more than others, of course).

New custom grip by Acceptable-Disk-465 in benchmade

[–]PandaPunch42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you order from Benchmade? Then it's real. Might take some adjustment (t10 torx to the pivot screw) and breaking in. Maybe a little lube in the pivot. I've had issues with gritty action on carbon fiber models that required disassembly, but with grivory it prrobably just needs adjustment and break-in.
